Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
I've only played two games, but I've seen about 6 or with another 5 or 6 that went into the stands. It seems the majority of the foul balls are straight back or straight up or right down the lines. I don't see a lot that go in between those areas.
This is kind of why I wish there was a zone hitting system...then the user is 100% responsible for bat to ball contact.
I'm having a tough time hitting as it is and to go back and look at the replays on these foul balls and see that when I finally do have solid timing, my guy is constantly swinging under the pitch and popping it straight up is a tad frustrating.Comment

Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
I don't see this as that big of problem. IRL, just because the player times the swing right, does not promise perfect contact, or even any contact for that matter.Comment

Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
Don't think that's what the OP is getting at. The issue is that it seems somewhat pre-programmed and hard-coded, given how often it happens.
Did you play The Show a few years back on the PS2? That game had an extremely limited number of foul ball animations -- something like 6 or 8 different foul ball cutscenes and that was it. The foul ball stuff with 2K11 seems similar. I notice the C catches the foul ball in the same area most every time -- 15-20 feet from home plate on the 3rd base side.Last edited by peigone; 03-16-2011, 11:42 AM.Comment

Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
I know this is just a random freak thing but last night playing my franchis game vs a friend. The final out of the inning for the 1st 4 innings for me was a pop out to the catcher..Comment

Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
I haven't noticed an overly unrealistic amount of behind the plate pop outs so I can't complain too much about them. Usually when it does happen it because the timing of my swing was off. I'm just happy to see them in the game. I never realized I missed them until now.Comment

Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
But in reality, they should happen when you are right on the pitch (timing wise), but just under it. If you are late or early, then the balls should be traveling down each line or into the stands in that direction.I haven't noticed an overly unrealistic amount of behind the plate pop outs so I can't complain too much about them. Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
The ratio of popups in foul territory to infield popups is backwards in this game. I have only experienced one infield popup in fair play to the 3 or 4 foul territory popups I see every game. It should be more fair play popups than foul considering fair play is 3 times the size of foul territory.Comment

I have played two games and have seen maybe two pop ups to the catcher...maybe?
What is more frustrating from my perspective is the amount of line outs I am seeing. Ones where they are caught right before they hit ground.
What are those who see too many catcher pop ups using for power/contact and pitch speed?
I run with 45/75 contact/power and 75 pitch spd.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
I see a few every game as well - mainly me popping up to the cpu catcher. I rarely seem to get the cpu to pop it up for an easy out for me. I honestly have no idea how many I should see in a game. Would 1 per game be normal? Two?Comment

Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
I've spent probably 50+ hours testing the hitting engine in 2K baseball games over the past 5-6 years. I can tell you that every 2K baseball game has this same issue, and it has much to do with player ratings that are set too high in relation to the way in which the hitting engine functions.
I'm playing with a team of scrubs -- every player is in the 50-60 overall range. The screaming line drives have basically disappeared, all because their lowered ratings interact with the hitting engine in a much more realistic manner. Not that any of that helps you unfortunately.

Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
YES......far too many. I just went insane in a 14-inning game, because of all the pop-ups. It's infuriating.
I suck at hitting, and that's fine. But there are spurts where I can't hit the ball forward.....I'm not THAT ******** at the game.
Also, in being fed up and just wanting to win after a few losses, I was the NL Greats team and won.....on 16 singles and 1 triple (in Polo Grounds). How absurd is that?
I finally hit 2 HRs (LaRoche, Werth for WAS). The funny thing about the 14-inning game was that I only gave up 2 runs on like 18 hits or something.Comment

Re: Too many pop ups to the catcher?
i have seen a realistic amount of this, however and unrealistic number of infield line drive outs and a total lack of grounders in general. I've played a franchise game where there were ZERO. Another with just 2. I was unaware that outfielders should have way more putouts than a first baseman.
