PACIFIC UC DAVIS HAVE DEFENSIVE BATTLE IN THE PAVILION

(Insert picture of Josh Ritchart here)

Hey Aggie fans this is 103.8 KUCD and this is your commentator Ryan Burns. This was a very unique game especially for the UC Davis Aggies. The Aggies who are known for their high scoring games, played a different kind of game today. This was a game about how could get more stops. UC Davis won that battle at halftime and only gave up 13 points to Pacific and had a solid 11 point lead at halftime. This defensive stretch stayed up until the last 10 minutes when Pacific figured out how to break UC Davis's stellar defense. Although Pacific started to score late, UC Davis held their ground and won 57-47.

Now I am here with the player of game: Freshman, Josh Ritchart.

RB: To start off Josh, you grabbed 16 rebounds today! How were you able to manage that?

JR: Well we knew we had to step with Mike [Kurtz] hurt. He wasn't able to play much so I know individually I hit to the boards harder today and I did.

RB: What was if that made your defense today so stellar?

JR: Well Pacific is not exactly known for their scoring. There only real scoring threats were the two guards in the backcourt and a forward. The forward has no jumper so we played a Triangle-and-2 D to stop them in the backcourt.

RB: Thanks Josh! Now I am here with coach Scott. Coach, did you make up your mind before the game that this was going to be about defense, not offense?

LS: Well Ryan I don't know if I'd say that it wasn't about offense today but I did come into the game wanting to slow it down. Our half-court offense was not good today but since we were more worried about their guards getting into transition, I was not surprised when this game turned into a defensive battle.

RB: I remember you saying at the beginning of the year that you would do whatever it took to stop the opposition from scoring, is today one of those days where you had to think outside the box a little?

LS: Yes I guess you could say that. And I'd say it worked out if I say so myself. We only let them score 2 points in the first 10 minutes of the game. We knew what we had to do to win and we did it. We held their guard combo to just 13 points. I feel really good about today's win.

RB: Thanks coach! That's all for today Aggie fans. Meet us monday night at 7:00 for the weekly call-in show with coach Scott and meet us right here at 103.8 an hour before the game against the 9-11 (4-4) Long Beach St. 49ers. This will be the second matchup between both teams and UC Davis will be looking for the sweep.

Other than the format I'm really enjoying this dynasty, good luck with the rest of the season hopefully you can bring UC Davis to a NIT or NCAA big.
Well I'm trying to have some form of write-up so people can follow it a little more in depth and I have the box scores for people to see the stats. I'll keep working at it and thanks for the input.

TIME TO TAKE OUT THE BROOMS FOR THE AGGIES

Hey Aggie fans thanks for listening to this Big West matchup here on 103.8 KUCD. Today your UC Davis Aggies faced off against Long Beach St. and let me tell you, UC Davis absolutely dominated in the post. UC Davis, who is known for shooting a lot of threes, went 28-46 from inside the 3pt line and just 3-15 from 3. UC Davis held Casper Ware, who is 5th in the conference in scoring, to just 10 points on 4-12 shooting. It was a close game until halftime and in the second half the Aggies pulled away and blew out the 49ers 73-48.

Now I am here with the player of the game, freshman Mike Kurtz:

RB: Mike you just came off an injury that limited you the past couple games, how does your ankle feel now?

MK: It feels great Ryan. I woke up monday morning and it felt like I never hurt it in the beginning. I had a very solid week in practice and it showed in the game.

RB: Mike you shot 7-8 from the field today. What was the main reason for all that success down low?

MK: I'd probably say our size advantage. We came into the game knowing we had more size and skill down low and we just did our best to exploit that and I think we accomplished that.

RB: Thanks Mike congrats on the win. Now I am here with the coach. Lathen, you guys have been struggling a little bit from 3 the past couple of games, is that anything to worry about?

LS: Honestly Ryan I don't think so. We went into the game today knowing we had a size advantage. I told the guys when we were watching film that if we were going to win, it wasn't because of out-shooting them, it was about dominating the paint, which is what we did.

RB: Now you have a little two game stretch where you guys are facing two very solid teams in CS Northridge and CS Fullerton.

LS: Yea the next couple of games are going to be very tough especially since we are playing two teams that are in the race for winning the conference so we need to just grind this next week out the best we can.

RB: Thanks Coach! Well that's all from us here at 103.8 KUCD. Be sure to check in at 3:00 here 1 hour before the game saturday against CS Northridge for the pregame. Have a good rest of the week!

Yea I feel I am having too much success early. So I made a little twist that hopefully will help make it closer . Check back in about an hour or so if interested.

Alright guys I just got back from vacation and while on vacation I finished the season and the ABL for the next year. I'll be posting sporadically over the next few days from the season. It was a very interesting finish to the season...

UC DAVIS GET REVENGE AGAINST MATADORS

Hey Aggie fans this is Ryan Burns on 103.8 KUCD for the postgame of the lopsided game today between UC Davis and Cal State Northridge. This game was a blowout from the start for the Aggies. At half UC Davis was up 20 and never looked back winning 83-49.

Now I am here with the player of the game, Senior Joe Harden:

RB: Congrats on the win today Joe. First lets start with the double double. What did it take to get 17 and 10?

JH: I'm not sure how I got it honestly. It helped that I was 6-7 from the free throw line for sure. It definitly was not easy because they have solid post players and I just had to work my tail off for rebounds.

RB: How is it that you guys beat CS Northridge by 34 points?

JH: Ha that is a very good question. We were just the aggressor from the start and we just had a near perfect game. Everything was just going perfect I guess.

RB: Thanks Joe! Now I am here with the head coach of the Aggies, Lathen Scott. Lathen, what was it about your defense that made it so effective today?

LS: Well it is like Joe said, we were the aggressors today. Outside of [Lenny] Daniel, their big man, we just locked down on them. We never let them feel comfortable and took advantage on both ends.

RB: What do you tell your team over the next few days after a game like today going into the game thursday?

LS: The first thing I will do is teach them on how not to foul. They shot 21 free throws and I'm not too happy about that. Other than that we will just look at the footage and analyze it like any other game, pointing out the positives and negatives.

RB: Thanks guys! Nice win today over the Matadors. Alright Aggie fans tune into 103.8 KUCD thursday at 7:00 one hour before the game at Cal State Fullerton. Have a great rest of the weekend everyone and thanks for tuning in!

MIKE KURTZ DISMISSED FROM UC DAVIS

It has been confirmed today that Mike Kurtz, Freshman big man for UC Davis has been dismissed from the team for "violating school and team rules." Rumors have circulated though that there could have been illegal drugs involved. Coach Lathen Scott was unavailable for comment today but assistant coach Smush Hess did say, "We are all very sad by this situation but sometimes you have to do what is right over what is easy." "It is really upsetting for this to happen to him, he's a close friend and me and the rest of the team will do our best to help him through all this" said roommate, freshman Alex Tiffin.

Nice 15-9 record, if you can continue to play this way in your conference hopefully you can get a NCAA tournament bid.

JOE HARDEN LEADS AGGIES PAST TITANS

Welcome back Aggie fans this is Ryan Burns and you are listening to the postgame on 103.8 KUCD. You just witnessed another very strong game put together by the Aggies as they murdered Cal State Fullerton 86-61.

Now I am here with player of the game, Joe Harden who led all scorers with 23 points.

RB: Joe, you guys just swept a very good team. Not only did you guys sweep them but you guys blew them out both times. What did it take to do that?

JH: Well I would have to say it was our effort. They have key guys on their offense we have to hold in check and just do our best to create offense from our defense.

RB: Last time you guys played them, you only had 2 points. Tonight you had 23. What changed?

JH: Well tonight I was healthy. The last game we played, I was hurt and had limited minutes. So nothing really changed except my health.

RB: Thank you Joe! Nice job tonight. Now I am here with the head coach, Lathen Scott. Lathen, what makes your defense so effective against teams like Fullerton?

LS: Well to be perfectly honest with you Ryan I'm not too sure if we played that good defense tonight. We let Chin drop 21 on us even though we knew he was their primary scorer and they shot 10-19 from 3. I did like, however, our interior defense. Honestly with the current situation I had no clue what I was going to get down low but [Alex] Tiffin and [Josh] Ritchart stepped up big time for us.

RB: Now you look ahead and will face a solid team in UCSB. What will it take to come away with a win?

LS: Well we will have to play a very strong game. They might have one of the best starting line-ups in the conference and we know that. We just have to be ready and play the defenese we know to play.

RB: Is there any new news about how [Mike] Ku...

                              LS: No.

RB: Okay. Well thanks Coach on the win tonight and good luck against the Gauchos. Well Aggie fans that is all for tonight! Come out to the Pavilion saturday at 1:00 to watch UC Davis take on UCSB. If not tune in here at noon for the pregame and the game! Have a great rest of the week!

DOGFIGHT IN THE PAVILION BETWEEN UC DAVIS AND UCSB

Hello Aggie Fans this is you play-by-play Ryan Burns. Tonight was a very tough game between UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara. UC Davis walk all over UCSB the last time these two teams met but tonight was a little different even though the Aggies were home. At half UC Davis had a 39-28 lead which they hoped to maintain in the second half. They did so even though UCSB fought very hard led by James Nunnaly who had 24 points. UC Davis however squeaked by winning 79-70.

Now I am here with the player of the game, sharpshooter, Eddie Miller.

RB: Eddie, what did you do today to hit 5 threes?

EM: I just ran the plays coach wanted us to execute. If I ever get an open look I will take it and it just so happened everything was falling.

RB: In the first half it seemed like you guys were in control going into the second half. What changed in the second half?

EM: For some reason our defense was slacking. We executed on offense like always but we just could not stop them on the other end. Luckily, we were up by a nice margin when we started trading baskets.

RB: Thanks Eddie and great job today! Now I am here with the coach! Lathen, you guys have been struggling a little bit from deep excluding [Eddie] Miller. Does it worry you at all?

LS: Not really Ryan. I know my guys can shoot so I trust them and we will just keep playing.

RB: You are defensive guy. Everyone knows that. What will it take to stop guys like [James] Nunnaly and [Orane] Chin in the future?

LS: We just need our defensive guys like Mark and Howley to step up. We know we can contain those guys, we just have to go out there and do it. I can only do so much as a coach.

RB: We have four games left on the schedule, what are you telling your guys heading into the final stretch of conference play?

LS: Just to keep working hard in practice. If we are going to win the regular season, we will have to finish out very strong. It will be a fun 3 weeks.

RB: Thanks coach Scott! Aggie fans, this wednesday night, your UC Davis Aggies have senior night against Cal Poly. Come out and support your Aggies and especially the 4 seniors as they hope to go out with a win. Have a great week everyone and I will see you at The Pavilion wednesday night!
