Racing Wheel Set up and Wheel Discussion for Xbox 360 and PS3

I hope this thread isn't breaking rules.. But with Nascar 11 coming out, I am really wanting a Steering wheel for the XBOX 360... Does anyone have any insight on what wheel to get for the 360?? THe Microsoft one has been discontinued and people are wanting soo much money for them new.. And I want new..

On the flip side if you have any Ps3 suggestions for Ps3 users Feel free to tap in...

If you have a Racing Wheel and set-up would be cool to see what you got... IE home made jobs to support wheels and pedals

No real cheap options if you want just 1 wheel to work over both platforms. I ended up biting the bullet and ordering a Fanatec GT2 with the stand and love it so far. I still need to get the pedals though. Works over 360/PS3/PC.

Well I have been looking for the microsoft one, but it was discontinued and the only ones I have found are on amazon for 699.00 which is ridiculous. Since many say it is the best one, wonder why they discontinued it, should have bought it when they were selling for 99

From what I have heard, the 360 wheel was actually not that great. Most of the positive reviews I knew of were from people who had little to no experience with any other quality wheel(s).

I'm in the same boat as you. I own a 360 and want to play NTG 2011 on a wheel. Not sure what options are compatible with the 360 and what options work the best.

Extreme luck on my part, after posting about the crazy prices I was seeing online, I checked CL in a town about an hour away and a guy had one up for 75 brand new. It gets better, he just so happens to be coming up tomorrow to a building close to where I work so I dont have to make the drive. First time I have lucked out on CL

Heres my wheel setup. Have a binder under the pedals to angle them.

I was in a similar situation.
I see the Madcatz one is available but
from the reviews I saw and talking to someone they
said it was good at first but quickly broke after a couple
hours of use. I talked to a couple friends and one had both
the madcatz and microsoft one and both said the MS held up
much better and had a better feel, drawback is the MS doesn't
have a gear shifter have to use the buttons to shift.

anyway I got a MS that came packaged with 2 racing games
(Forazza 2 & Test Drive unlimited) for 80$ new that was the best
                  deal I found

the second best for a brand new was braigo dot com sells the MS new for 125$
which actually isn't that bad since they originally sold for 150$ brand new 3 years ago.

other than that only used ones are out there and the new ones are 150$ or higher.

I have a bunch of racing games Dirt, Grid, Nascar 09, Forazza, Test Drive but really wanted it for the new Nascar 2011. I've played around a little with Nascar 09 and plan this weekend to really see what the wheel can do. Everyone I talked to says it make the racing games more fun.

My set up is similar to the posters pic.....using a laptop table for the wheel and found putting something under the pedals helps the comfort when in a recliner. I just need to find out how to tune the wheel a bit or set ups, I find I'm sawing the wheel way too much....more frustrating.

I might pick up the madcatz version as a comparison to see how it handles, I'm really easy on my equipment so I don't think I'll break it......the guys I talked to tend to be the angry remote throwing types so I can see how they broke theirs.

I have something somewhat similar to that except the table I use is not heavy enough and it moves if i turn quickly. So what i did was put a couple of 25lb dumbells on the bottom of each side and that stabilized it perfectly.

Do those MS wheels work with Iracing? I wanted to get a wheel that worked for XBox NTG 2011 & one that also works with Iracing. Any
                        suggestions?

The MS wheel is simply "ok" compared to all the wheels out there but since it is the only option for the 360, short of the crazy expensive Fantec Porsche wheel, what can you do.

                          -270 degree rotation
                          -lack of input buttons
                          -pedals are bit light/floaty
                          +wireless
+true force feedback and not just rumble
                          +usable on lap or stand

Best games with the wheel by far are Shift 1, N09, F1 and Race Pro. There is a smoothness when using the wheel in these games that sets it night and day above using the controller. I have a lot of expectations for NTG11 and Shift 2 to be in the top group as well.

Many other console racers, Forza included, seem to do a lot of tweaking to make them controller friendly, which in turn reduces the value of using a wheel. Forza and PGR still are fun with the wheel but there is decidedly no advantage to it over the controller. I know many people who can rip off far faster lap times with a controller in Forza than they can a wheel.

I do not have the remote wireless USB dongle so I have never tried the MS wheel on the PC. I have the Driving Force GT which is PC/PS3 compatible so that is what I use with iRaincg etc. Overall that is a better wheel than the 360 wheel and in about the same price range so it is too bad Logitech doesn't make one compatible with the 360.

I use the Wheelstand Pro with separate head mounts so I can have the 360 and GT queued up and ready to swap with nothing more than a flip of a quick release. It is a pretty costly alternative to mounting it on a table but very nice when sitting in front of the television. I picked the used stand up cheap off ebay.

If your looking for a wheel to use on iracing and xbox The only option would be buying a fanatec wheel. They make one wheel that can be used on xbox , pc and ps3. model would be the porsche turbo s wheel.

I use the fanatec turbo s. worth it for sure if you consistently play racing games.
