Best Wireless N Routers for Gaming??

    Hey Guys

I just switched to 30 Meg down Fiber. Since Fiber does not use a Modem, all you need is a router. I was looking to go wireless finally since all my consoles have built in wireless (Xbox Slim & PS3). I want to go with the Wireless N router.

What is everyone using and how have your speeds been. I have always been hardline.

    Basically looking for a recommendation.

    Thanks Guys

    Linksys E3000

Been using it since last summer, works great for me, no lag at all. Can even get a strong signal in my back yard. Price has come down a lot, when I bought it was $200, now it is $160.

Netgear is a good brand. N plus g versions that boost for gaming. I have not had any problems and the wireless range is wider and stronger that my old, old 2005 router.(link-sys)
What world do you live in?

After doing some research into this it looks like Microsoft messed up.

The new Xbox Slim has built in Wireless N - but it is only on the 2.4 Ghz band. So having a dual band router is really a waste because you can't take advantage of the 5ghz band.

To make matters even worse, the old xbox consoles with the wireless adapters offer wireless signal in both the 2.4 & 5 ghz range. So technically speaking the Xbox slim took steps backwards.

So considering this short site, I think I am going to have to select a single band router just because I won't be able to utilize the dual with my consoles.

Here is a article for anyone that wants to read about it

So with all that said I am thinking about the D-link DIR-655 Router.

I have that D-Link. Personally, have not had one single problem in over a year. Haven't had a problem with ping or hitting DL/UL caps.

Netgear Dual Band and it works with every type of modem there is! Best by far and cost efficient.

I love my AirPort Extreme. Granted I don't play online a lot, but it's worked great when I do.

I've had an Airport Express for about a month now and I love it! Never had any problems with dropped signals and the speeds are extremely fast.

Damn Mike, that is a great deal. Newegg has it listed at $199 and Amazon has it at $172.

I ended up getting the DIR-655 off Amazon for $65

Just wanted to bump this thread with an update:

I've now had the Airport Express for 4 months and I'm starting to see its flaws. When I run an Ethernet cable from my MBP directly to the modem I get this result:

but when I'm going wireless I'm getting:

Does anybody know if its definitely the Airport Express? Perhaps the fact it's not a dual band router? Any router suggestions? I've been through 2 already in the past year so I'm really getting frustrated with routers.

Well it all depends on far you trying to send the signal and how thick your walls are. Walls with a lot power lines or pipes within it cause interference.

Cordless phones can cause it as well.

For me, I have the Linksys E3000:

Wireless I get 15 down and 6 up about a good 35 feet away going through one wall. Outside on the furthest end of the house, I get 6 down and 2 up. But that is going through 6 walls, with one of them being concrete.
