I cannot get a no-no or a shutout to save my life

And it's frustrating. I play with the Nats and use fantasy draft. My top pitcher right now is Ubaldo Jimenez and I always give up a hit or a run late in the game. In fact I had a no hitter going and I gave up a hit to the pitcher of the opposing team of all people.

Completely frustrating. I pick my spots and setup hitters to chase/strikeout, etc.

Guys how are you getting no hitters or shutouts? I can't do it.

You speak of no-hitters like they are a common occurence...if people were getting them with regularity it would be a problem. A problem because you aren't seeing them? Not so much.

Lol you make it seem like they happen regularly. Harder it is, the more rewarding it is. And if you consistently get that close, its time to stop playing on such easy settings.

Thus far (17-14) with the brewers I have 1 shut-out and 0 no hitters, 1 complete game. Reason being they are hard. You walk a guy, there is an error, you hang a breaking ball or run into a hot hitter. Keep at it and im sure you will get the desired results.

Pedro Martinez couldn't get a no-no either. And he even pitched 9 perfect innings once without getting one.

Re: I cannot get a no-no or a shutout to save my life

My apologies if I made it seem like I was thinking they were easy. I know they aren't, but it's not even so much as a no hitter that I want as a shutout.

For instance, Ubaldo Jimenez is one of the best pitchers in the game and I got up to the 8th inning where I'm leading 6-0, and Jimenez has 8 k's so far. I pitch to Ryan Braun, and the count is 3-2. I go everywhere in the strikezone, out of the strikezone, he's protecting the plate, foul foul foul. Sigh, this is the 13th yes THIRTEENth pitch to Braun.

Finally I'm just going to give him a fastball down center since he was hitting everywhere else. Bam. Single shot. *Bangs head against desk* And actually the pitch was out of the strikezone a little bit and he still destroyed it. I felt like killing him.

Thats the kinda stuff I'm talking about. My game is on All-Star difficulty by the way.

Sometimes pitching to contact can be handy, use less stamina than trying to punch everyone out. But i haven't thrown a no-no yet this year, though i have had some shutouts.

Getting a shutout isn't easy either. You shouldn't be able to just "will" a shutout just because you want one. Don't expect it, just play the game. It'll happen. Don't play for one, play to win.

So that 13th pitch was # what for the game. Later in the game your pitches lose effectivness, and hitters know what you throw and how it moves. Easier for them to square one up. Braun had a good long look at a tiring pitcher.

I feel your pain. In last years version. I'd have a no-no in the 7th or 8th (NL, btw) and the pitcher would fight off pitches and get the hit usually.

First time I threw the controller. I'm used to it now.

It happens couple times this year for me now. Never has in previous games, probably cause I was never that close to a no-no.

One game, where I was striving for a no-no cause I walked someone, took it late but was broken up by a pitcher.

Second game, where I thought after 3 years of The Show I might be able to get a no-no. 7.2 IP, 12 K's, one more out to go to finish the 7th. Batter finally gets a hit. So no-no broken up, going to try to get a CP shutout. Next batter up, whacks a homer up the middle. Oh well

Yea Jimenez was at about 85-90 pitches or so at that time, but he's a workhorse which is why I drafted him.

Jimenez had exactly 2 shutouts in 33 starts last year. How many games have you played with him so far?
