    Back Pain

    Whats going on OS?

Just wondering if any of you guys suffer any serious back pain?

Just found out I have a herniated disc in the L4\L5 region.
It was 10\10 pain until Friday when I went in for a cortizone shot.

It happened so quick, took a swing in tennis and POW! all these problems.

The pain is about 7\10 now.

Just want to know if any of you guys are going through, have gone through this?

Treatments? anyone had to have surgery?

    Re: Back Pain

I definitely have chronic back pain. Even had a disc slip a while back.

I visited a chiropractor and did some acupuncture, which helped some. Never needed surgery though. Lower back bothers me from time to time. Today it's my upper back.

I know Acid's had serious back surgery before, so I'm sure he'll chime in.

Yeah, I'm trying out a new chiropractor in a week (my insurance covers it where it's just a co-pay, not too bad).

My issue is that my lower back will sometimes get tweaked and then hurt for a couple weeks...Not really sure there's a solution, but the chiropractors do seem to help. The place I'm going to next supposedly does more rehab and whatnot, not just adjusting you. While adjusting is good, I think I need a bit more than that to try and get rid of it for good.

I have back pain 24/7, and over the last few days it's been really bad. I don't have health insurance so I can't get to a chiro or a physical therapist which sucks...I'm pretty much relying on a heating pad that doesn't even work that well. Something's definitely not right, I just don't know what.

Same here, about 2 years ago, went for a backhand and I guess I put my back out.

Never got it checked out though, since my pain completely went away after 1-2 weeks.

You have chronic back pain, and you don't have health insurance, but you just bought an iPhone?

                Something's definitely not right, indeed.

I applied for medical assistance and haven't heard back yet...if I don't get that my mom is putting me on her plan...either way, a chiropractor won't be covered, so I'd have to pay it regardless. I'm not paying $40 a visit for something that's only going to temporarily help, so how I spend my money outside of that is irrelevant. I'd rather get surgery (that's probably covered) and correct the problem permanently.

                    Re: Back Pain

I feel so sorry for you guys. I had a wierd episode about 5 years ago where I woke up in the middle of the night in almost complete agony from back pain. My girlfriend (now wife) drove me to the ER and apparently I had pinched a nerve which was causing my back muscles to spasm, which was further aggrevating the nerve.

They loaded me up with Valium, anti-inflammatories and codeine. I spent 8 hours completely blitzed on the lounge room floor (I had never had such strong pain killers in my life!) and then after that I was fine. I've tweaked it a few times since then but the pain has never been as bad as that first time. Fingers crossed it will stay that way...

PS. I know you hear a lot of horror stories in regards to back surgery but it gave my grand father a whole new lease on life. Once he had recovered he was standing much taller and was in far, far less pain. He was able to continue working as a builder when we thought he was pretty much finished.

I'm thinking my issue is a pinched nerve as well. Often times I experience numbness in my left thigh or tingling sensations in my left side, which I've read can be attributed to that.

                        Re: Back Pain

My wife had a herniated disc 3 1/2 years ago, don't remember which one but it was very lowest point of her back. Her disc slipped 10 mm out and the doctor's were amazed she could even walk. She had the injury since a child and just every few years worsened.

She ended up having back surgery and the doctor literally had to chisel away at the damage. Her right leg was partially numb while she couldn't feel her foot at all.

Almost immediately after the surgery she had no numbness in her leg or foot. She still from time to time will get some numbness in the bottom of her foot, which the doctor said is normal from going too long having the disc fixed, but it was pretty scary either way.

She was up and walking the same day in PT and was home the next day. 4 days off work and she was back at it. I probably would have been laid up for 6 months. LOL

Basically, don't wait, see a specialist ASAP. Get it fixed if you can. You don't want to do any permanent nerve damage. The doctor had mentioned to us that some people had went to long and couldn't ever feel their foot again, stuff like that.

I don't have back pain but my uncle did. I think my aunt put it on him too good or something. At any rate, he says he uses an inversion table which has really relieved it tremendously. He doesn't have any back pain anymore. I'm still waiting to get to the next level in my life before I make that purchase. I was having stiffness (which is not the same depth of pain as what you guys might have felt) and tried this inversion table. Worked a miracle for me. It will take me back about $800+ but I'm saving up for it.

                          Relax The Back

They have other companies that sell this model and similar ones. I've heard only good about it and tried it. It's made my Mastercare. It's called the Back-A-Traction Inversion table. Of course, I would definitely recommend to see a specialist.

My back goes completely out once a year like clockwork. I don't know when, I don't know how, but it does. I literally get stuck hunched over and if I try to stand up straight sharp pains go from my lower back down my right leg so bad I almost crumple and let out a scream. A sneeze can brink to the brink of passing out.

It takes about 3 days and I am back to normal. Things that have made my back go out. Swinging a golf club, picking up a sock in the laundry room, sitting too long on a folding chair at a poker party, etc.

I got in a bad bicycle accident when I was in 6th grade and hurt my back but didn't go to the doctor. I think it has to do with that.

Same here! Last time I was getting out of the car with groceries I'd put on the passenger seat. I went to straighten up and it was horrible. Goes away in a week or two, a lot better after a few days.

I'm hoping this next chiropractor will be able to help more with preventing it, but we'll see.
