    RECRUITING UPDATE
According to rivals.com Lathen Scott handed out 5 scholarships for this upcoming season:

    3* C: Akin Leonard, 6'11 226 lbs. (Ovr. 448, Pos. 39)
    2* PG: Keon Terry, 6'0 173 lbs. (Ovr. 452, Pos. 126)
2* SG: Wes Seegars, 6'5 209 lbs. (Ovr. NR, Pos. NR)
    2* PG: Terry Holcomb, 5'11 172 lbs. (Ovr. 563, Pos. 164)
1* C: Ismael Sinville, 6'10 228 lbs. (Ovr. NR, Pos. NR)

It was not the greatest recruiting job by coach Scott but he did get some solid players in Keon Terry and especially 3* Akin Leonard. With time, Leonard can turn into a beast.

      Meet your UC Davis Aggies

UC Davis Aggies Depth Chart - 2011-12

SGRyan SypkensRyan HowleyEddie Miller Wes Seegars
      SFHarrison DuPontRyan HowleyJosh Ritchart
      PFAlex TiffinJosh Ritchart
CAkin LeonardAlex Tiffin, Josh Ritchart, Ismael Sinville

Eddie Miller - SR (63): 6'5 197 lbs. - Eddie played a lot of SF and SG last year and coach Scott will look for him to make the transition to PG. With the Aggies not having a ton of depth in the backcourt, Eddie will look to play a lot of minutes.

Ryan Sypkens - JR (64): 6'5 187 lbs. - Ryan will start out in the starting line-up. He is coming in as the "shooter" of the team even though he had a down sophmore year shooting the ball.

Harrison DuPont - RS SO (67): 6'5 232 lbs. - Many Aggie fans are excited about DuPont. A transfer who redshirted last year is looking to make an immediate impact for the Aggies especially on the offensive end.

Alex Tiffin - JR (61): 6'9 229 lbs. - Tiffin will go back to playing at his natural position at the power forward. He will look to go back to where he left off from last season.

Akin Leonard - FR (65): 7'1 242 lbs. - No that is not a typo. He grew 2 inches over the summer and now UC Davis might have the best big man in the conference, as a freshman! This kid is what you call a monster on both ends. Double doubles will be expected.

SF: Ryan Howley - JR (63): 6'5 198 lbs. - Howley will be in the same role as last year. He will be a defensive specialist off the bench and will look to score a little bit as well. He is the, for a lack of a better term, 6th man for the team.

PG: Keon Terry - FR (61): 6'0 173 lbs. - Keon is a very good defender and he is fast. He is not looking to shoot but help his teammates get the open shots. Coach Scott will depend on him to guard the star guard on the other team.

PF: Josh Ritchart - SO (58): 6'9 221 lbs. - Coach Scott will be looking for Josh to come off the bench and give him solid minutes wherever playing. Sometimes he will play the 3 but mainly he will be at the PF position doing what he does: rebounding and scoring.

PG: Tyler Les - SO (56): 6'2 189 lbs. - Tyler got a little bit of playing time backing up Mark Payne at the point but this year is different. Sources indicate that Freshman Keon Terry will get the nod at point guard for now.

SG: Wes Seegars - FR (50): 6'5 209 lbs. - He really has no offensive skill at all. He is never comfortable on the offensive end. On defense he is pretty good but probably won't get to see the floor too much this year.

C: Ismael Sinville - FR (46): 7'0 244 lbs. - Sinville, like Leonard, grew 2 inches over the summer. Sinville was very underrated in highschool and will have to play very hard when he does play to get any significant minutes this season.

PG: Kerry Holcomb - FR (54): 5'11 172 lbs. - Holcomb will redshirt this season. With Miller being a senior Holcomb will sit this season out in hopes of getting playing time next year.

Well after typing my butt off these past couple of days I finally cought up and I am ready to start off the season in the next couple of days. Should be an interesting season since this team is very different from last year, but more to my liking.

New assisstant coach in Davis, Ca.

After the season Taurance Conley went back to Sacramento High School where he coached with Lathen Scott but this time he is the head coach. When asked on the decision he said, "I feel like if I ever am going to be a head coach in college, I have to prove myself and I feel Sacramento High School is a good place to do it." Lathen Scott went out and grabbed 38 year old, Devin Chiles. Chiles did not have a job as a coach last year and accepted the offer as assisstant coach for UC Davis.

Leonard should be a beast for you.. Nice job with all the Legacy Goals this past year. Do you plan on sticking it out after this year at UC Davis, or would a bigger job tempted you to leave?

Also when it comes to recrutiing. Really focus on 3* guys right out of the gate in California. If they have more then 3 or 4 teams listed ahead of you that is fine to start, but as soon as one of those schools give out a scholly offer, dump them from your list and look for 3* guys who have no offers. I typically did very well landing 3-4 3* guys and even a 4* guy after year 2. I also look at players like the Mr BB from Alaska,Montana, New Mexico, Wyoming. They are typically lower rated 3* or even 2* but come in rated pretty decent.

Well I'm not too sure if I will leave UC Davis or not. I think it would take a solid mid-major team to get me to leave from like the sun belt or something. I might stick with the west coast theme and try to get a job from the wac or something, we will see.

And with the recruiting, I definitely had a tough time recruiting. Some of it was just me not concentrating too much on recruits after I find solid 2*. But yea Cali is full of solid recruits and I think 4 of the 5 recruits were from there. I only have 1 scholarship this year and I will post an update on that one once the early signing period rolls around so just look out for that.

And yes Leonard is a beast. I played a game yesterday and he is a man among boys. It really wasn't fair lol. I am still trying to get over the fact that he grew 2 inches over the summer, usually guys I recruit might grow 1 inch but man he must've drank a bunch of milk or something.

BYU REALLY IS NOTHING WITHOUT JIMMER

                        November 6, 2011

Provo, Utah - Last season Jimmer Fredette averaged 24.4 points per game (2nd in NCAA) and BYU averaged 70.4 points per game. That means the rest of the team averaged just 46 points every game. BYU had all summer to figure out a way to get at least some of those points back for the upcoming season.

It looks like they will need more time.

They tried to combat Jimmer leaving by redshirting a guard and signing 3 guards. The redshirt freshman (Matt Carlino) did score 22 points against UC Davis, but it took 25 shots to achieve that. Not exactly what BYU was wanting. It didn't help that Brandon Davies went 0-5 in 27 minutes of play.

UC Davis was a little bit more successful. Eddie Miller, senior point guard, went 6-10 from the field and scored 16 points, a little more effective than Carlino.

"Eddie was fantastic today. He shot well and defended well too. We are expecting more of that from him as the season continues."

Akin Leonard, freshman big man for the Aggies had a very solid debut with a 15/9 in 23 minutes.

UC Davis would win the game in BYU's own gym, 66-55.

UC DAVIS IMPRESSES IN HOME OPENER

                          November 9, 2011

Provo, Utah - Last season Ryan Sypkens averaged 7 shot attempts per game in 16 minutes per game. This season the junior was put in a much bigger role and more minutes. In 28 minutes against Hawaii Sypkens threw up 20 shots scoring 22 points. Eddie Miller also threw up a lot of shots (15) and scored 18.

Maybe they should take a leaf out of Akin Leonard's book who got into double digits in just 5 shot attempts due to being in foul trouble most of the night.

"I didn't get a ton of oppurtunitites today but I took advantage of every one of them tonight." said freshman Leonard.

UC Davis also had to overcome a 35-24 deficit late in the first half. Then with a minute left the Aggies had a huge 7-0 run that helped push them over the edge in the second half.

UC Davis did score 77 points tonight but a good portion of them were on second chance oppurtunities or on fast breaks from their press.

"We tried to mix our press with the half-court defense. We knew we could keep up with Hawaii but we also knew that they had experianced guards who could adjust so we never let them stay comfortable on offense, we also mixed in a little 2-3 zone when [Zane] Johnson wasn't in the game for them." said Scott on their defense.

UC Davis beat another west coast foe in Hawaii 77-68 in front of 5,500 fans tonight.

Hey guys I want your opinions on this. I got the impression from comments and your votes in the poll that you guys weren't real into the way I was posting the games last season (and I can see why). So do you guys like the layout of the games I just posted?

Looks pretty good. Nice start to the season by the way.
