Re: Madden NFL 12 Video - Gameplay Sizzle
I am very happy to see the right things being addressed. There is always a lot to innovate. Innovation doesn't always equate to "inventing" something. It means taking what's there and making it better. If you combine a lot of elements of football games over the years - Madden, 2k, Fever, Gameday, etc. - there are pieces from all of the games that can be built upon to make something truly great. The thing that is encouraging to me above all other things is that the team over there seems to have finally had the light go on. They are finally getting it that at the end of the day, we want to play football. The on field action and essence of the game is what matters most and it needs to be authentic down to the last detail. I'm not talking about socks, facemasks and elbow tape. I'm talking about capturing the essence of the sport. The contact, the positional battles, the blood, sweat and tears down on the field. If you don't get that right, then you don't have a football game at all. These are the things that have been neglected for far too long. It's great to see focus on many things with gameplay leading the way. Each release should be like this. Just because a lot of gameplay improvements might go into 12, doesn't mean you stop for 13. You push the envelope every year and add more and more, building on top of what you already have.Taz, the vids don't get me hyped that much. Believe it or not, it's all the blogs and info that floats around.
I'm sorry, but last year we had improved run blocking and game flow and strategy pad to look forward to.
After today, from what I've read, consecutive impact tackling, no more suction or warping, better zone coverages, wr shading, better ball physics, custom playbooks and better edge rushing.
I didn't even go into presentation.
You'll need to excuse me if I feel more excited about this years iteration vs. last years. There are reasons to feel skeptical, but there are sure darn good reasons to feel better than last year, don't you agree?
All that being said... The vids are nice and all, and things do look MUCH improved, but like the proverbialsays, we have to wait and see to find out what it's really like.Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on meComment

Seriously??
I mean, I am about as critical of Madden as anyone, but these are the types of things that I hope are last on their priority list. Too many important, fundamental things wrong to sweat these things yet.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 12 Video - Gameplay
I might not have complained so much had the game actually looked like this since 09. I would have never felt the need to join any of the forums to voice my opinions; which were categorized as "nit picking". I'll reserve any excitement till I get to see for myself.Proud Beta tester for NFL 2K Dreamcast

No one's going to call you negative. As long as you find your football satisfaction in Backbreaker, it's all good!Call me negative nancy all you want, but I'm not impressed. Yeah, the game looks great from a graphical standpoint, but the player animations are not very fluid and the look too static and way to scripted. I'm sorry, but Madden NFL 11 feels exactly like it plays, horrible. It just does not feel like football to me.
I think you make a good point, but it wouldn't translate well in-game IMO. I think in videogames, the QBs are a little more stationary than they are in real-life (they're more apt to be standing still). I don't know how good it would look -- unless you mean just to bend them slightly and not as much as in the pics.
Played around with it this morning. The players don't collide like I said, but the ballcarrier will put his head down and attempt to push the pile consistently.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 12 Video - Gameplay Sizzle
i am not hyped at all, i already know i am buying it day 1. I can look past the gimmick player movements.
i have put in, easily 100 hrs with madden 11 maybe 50 of those editing it, and it plays well now, but if they deliver on the tease of having franchise rating edits, editable tendencies, i definately can see myself playing this with a hyped feeling of football games are back......NOW PLAYING: NBA Live, madden 11,12, battlefield v, F1 2020 and injustice 2 and COD:MW

The QB movement on APF is SPOT ON. Their posture. Their bounce. The way they transition from scramble to stationary. The setting of the feet to throw. The release. They nailed it. And I have the game for PS3, which is a crappy port that runs at 30fps. I can only imagine how it looks on 360 at 60fps. I can only imagine how it would look if they actually put effort and money into the game, which they didn't.
Not turning this into a 2K debate, just saying that I don't agree that Madden has to go the route they did with the QB animations because it translates better in a videogame. Let's call a spade a spade. The QB animations look the way they do in Madden, because animating is so far from their forte, it's ridiculous.
On the collision with the line thing. Yes, they do that bull charge to push the pile animation, which is nicer visually than Mario running, but it still equates to same thing for me basically. The runner is stuck on the back of the O-Line. He will eventually squeeze off, but it doesn't work the way I would like, and it doesn't work like in 2K. It's better, but not 2K. That's all I'm saying.
In 2K as soon as your running back contacts a lineman, it triggers a couple of "get off of him" animations. One, he just turns sideways, or "gets skinny" and quickly slides past. The other he puts a hand on the back of the lineman and maneuvers past him. Both are instantaneous and you never even get to think about being stuck for even a millisecond. . In Madden it isn't. You will eventually squeeze through, unlike the past Mario running, but it takes longer and you can easily be tackled.
I'm not saying it isn't in the game, I just was answering the original question on it. The person asked if it's like 2K, and again, it isn't. Same result, but 2 different implementations. The Madden one I don't like nearly as much, but of course it is much more preferable to Mario running."You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling."Comment

Re: Madden NFL 12 Video - Gameplay Sizzle
The trailer did nothing for me. I'm just one that has to see the game being played to really get excited.
I can't wait for E3 to come so I can see actaul gameplay. This way I can see if the animations are smooth , and see how the A.I is.
Once I get to witness that. Then I can express my emotions
