Toning down the Boston Red Sox

Franchise players with AL East teams, do you see this stuff too? The Red Sox are 46 and 12 in my franchise. The second place team (NYY) is 5 games over 500 and yet 14.5 games back from first place. So you can only imagine how far back I am. It's ridiculous, and hardly fun at all.

They are on pace to win like 130 games this season, so even if I go undefeated the rest of the year I still am not guaranteed first place. I don't want to make them suck, but its either fix that or start a new franchise (probably in another division. Such obscene numbers kind of take the fun out of franchise mode when I have to compete with them. I can beat Boston myself but obviously their simmed games are just ridiculous. Any suggestions on how to bring them back to earth?

I watch every Sox game so I can quickly tell you that some of their pitching staff needs some regression. Lackey, Dice-K, Jenks, Wheeler, and Okajima's clutch should be about 20 points lower. Saltalamacchia is an all-star in the game but is pretty terrible so his contact and power should be decreased quite a bit. Decrease Scutaro's contact a little. Crawford's clutch, and Cameron's contact/power vs LHP. Drew's power vs RHP. But to be fair you should also make Albers & Lowrie a lot better.

And maybe decrease Youk's contact and vision a little bit. He's been striking out so much this season.

They also confused Jacoby Ellsbury with Ty Cobb in this game. Also, the Sox have an All-Star filled line-up for all eternity in both my RTTS games. The game not only made their initial roster somehow all MVP candidates, but they consistently get all MVP's and All-Stars on their roster through lopsided trades and signing as RTTS moves on in years. Way to make the game balanced.

Not that bad yet in my franchise but they are tough. I am the Yankees and I am sitting at 21-15 and 2.5 gms behind the Red Sox. They are tough and have gone on some lengthy winning streaks. They are playing much better in the Show than in real life but before the season started they had a great team on paper so in a way, it is somewhat realistic. I play them right after KC so I hope I can put up a good fight this time around. The first time we met in April, they took 2/3 from me and all 3 games were a battle.

I currently play as the Sox in my franchise and am on a 17 game winning streak. Something clicked around the end of April-early May. Record is 48-18 and I play on All-Star, default sliders, toned down wind slider with default rosters. I hit on timing and field on analog. The only thing I did was trade for Phil Hughes. Beckett is 8-1, Hughes 8-2. Lackey has been reduced to the pen, Buckholtz 8-2 and Bard is the closer with 19 saves. The thing I noticed is Ortiz and Gonzaloes are unreal with power. Each have 25 HR's. Ellsbury and Crawford each have 27 steals. Crazy speed. The team that gives me the fits are Oakland and Texas and the random strikes by these umpires.

Just finished my first season with the Yankees and simmed probably about 65% of the season.

Boston won 108 games, Yanks got the wild card with 97 wins.

Funny, everything in my franchise looks fine. I don't have any records I feel are unrealistic. The Cards and Red Sox have the best record at 47-24. Those records seem fine to me.

Re: Toning down the Boston Red Sox

Hmmm, the Boston in my Franchise is in first place, but not by a huge lop sided amount. And they've actually got a pretty mediocre/poor pitching staff thus far, which is what seems to be keeping them grounded.

The Yankees on the other hand, are like 20 games UNDER .500 because of having bad starting rotation and having Jeter, Tex, Granderson, and Gardner out for extended periods of time at the same time.

The Sox blew up in my franchise also...not to mention they are extremely hard to beat head-to-head. I do think you need to tone down Dice-K and Lackey significantly which should help. Some of their offensive players (like Salti as mentioned above) should be downgraded both on offense and his defense is terrible too.

Lackey has been one of the worst pitchers in baseball. I bet Boston regrets that contract now. At least Dice-k showed signs of improvement this season.

I don't see the problem with the Red Sox being world-beaters in this game.

Yup I see it, I have simmed through a couple seasons and i see two trends. Boston always gets a big league, and the padres and d backs always take the Nl west. I dont know why but this always seems to happen,

In the one franchise I was using to play with sliders and then simmed through to play with the off-season....
the Red Sox finished 4th in the AL East and under .500

Didn't seem like it was because of injuries either. A lot of their players flat out stunk. Lester was 6-16 or something.
