    Bad Snaps

Just was watching a game on espn classic and there was a bad snap over the QBs head during a key situation (they were the away team USC at UK). It made me think, that's not in the game, how could it be implemented? Most people would agree they wouldn't want this to be random (kind of like Facemasks) it needs to be on the USER. So...

What if there was a "snap meter"? It would be a lot like a Free throw meter (and the process would be easy enough to do with the meter off for someone who wanted a realistic presentation) a lot like shooting in NBA 2K11 it would tell you too early(result low snap) or too late(result high snap) for release. This is just a thought but snapping requires some skill and if the USER got lazy the snap would be bad. It would also be based on the Center's rating and harder when on the road.

This could also be a way to help special teams for Field Goals and Punts. A lot of FGs and Punts have bad snaps that result in a block. This extra second would help ST's become more fun because there is always a chance of a bad snap.

Now I don't know if this meter would be the best way or not it's just a thought I had because it DOES happen in games and it can be a game changer.

EDIT: Also there would be a snap rating now, this would be key for choosing a Long Snapper which right now is just the best OL.

I also wanted to note that your snap doesn't have to be perfect but if you just tap it it will most likely be at the QB's feet, if you just hold it all the way the QB will have to jump for it and there's a chance it goes over his head. Just like a Free Throw except a little more cushion.

I brought this up before, but I feel like they should have two new ratings specifically for the offensive line. Shotgun snap and under center snap. This would make recruiting that much more interesting by forcing teams who run the spread to really go out and find the correct C's to play with.

i like hte idea of a bad snap, but I feel like a meter might sllow down the game.

And I think a Long Snap rating is also needed for punts and such

The meter is the only way to implement this. if there is no meter, then it becomes a "random CPU matter" and the last thing you want is to ruin a game because the CPU decided now's a good time to make a bad snap happen.

Bad snaps happen at bad times, critical times (TCU opener that led to the safety and TCU win). Sure it sucks but they happen, being a Florida fan I got sick of them for sure.

I think it would be good to base it off ratings and CPU would randomize it (of course, they need to tighten the ratings cause 0-100 is a little broad for snapping). Look at Florida last year, they moved their best OL to center and it took Pouncey a few games (countless reps) to get those snaps down. I think with ratings you'd have to recruit and make sure you have the right guy at center.

Maybe if you want your best OL at center but he isn't good at snapping, maybe put him 2nd string so he can get reps in practice and the longer you go in the season the better his snapping becomes and then you can put him in with a lower risk of bad snaps.

I played center in high school and I'm offended by this thread. if a snap gets messed up it can just as easily be the QB's fault

                    Re: Bad Snaps

there is no need for a snap meter. It is simple. Each Center should have a snap rating 0-99. Obviously the 99 may have 1 bad snap a year or none but a guy with 55 snap would be like Mike Pouncey vs USF (12 bad snaps). Also if i had two equal centers than a snap rating would definitely come into play.

Completely agree. I am a manager for my svhools football team (I have Marfans which means I cannot play) and I was filming one of the spring games and there were 5 botched snaps. And 4 of them were the QB's fault because 1. He just dropped the ball 2. The snap was low and accidently kicked the ball into a defenders hands, and 3. bounced off his facemask.

PS and no we are actually not that bad if you assumed that from this post. we won state in 2008 and one of our QB's we had a couple of years ago is now battling for the starting spot at TCU. Oh and we had EZ (aTm fans know what I'm saying)

This would be awesome, and would also take away the whole (just plug a lineman in any position, center, tackle, guard, whatever) aspect taht currently exists in the series

I don't like that. This is a college game and in college many players move from position to position. As of now there are almost too many ratings that make realistic position changes (RB to LB, WR to DB, TE to T, etc.) too difficult when in reality those changes happen hundreds of times each year.

In short, there should not be any new ratings and if they were to do anything like this it should be tied to composure IMO.

I like sparkdawg's idea. The downside to randomness as we've seen so many times before is that it's random.

I would feel a heck of a lot better if I made a bad snap that caused me to lose a game at a crucial moment, than the computer deciding it based off of some numbers. Just because I have a 95 snap rating doesn't mean that the computer "won't" bad snap it at the most horrible moment.

This is perfect. I agree that a meter would slow down the game, but this would really be the best way to implement it. Many of you who are saying you want it random, are the same ones that would complain when the randomness causes you to lose a lead, a game, whatever.
