I think they are required to release a game every year with the licensing agreement anyway.

What does that have to do with anything? I'm suggesting that EA break precedent with their football game. Sport game companies follow the already established model of selling sports games but that model has contributed to the problems of today. The model was established because people wanted updated rosters and schedules. Well it's 2011, and that can be downloaded so there is no actual need to have a game out every year.

Someone could have asked in the 90s to name one sports game that charged money for Easter eggs or their unlocksble content. You use to be able to earn cheats or enter a code. Now, you but it and download. Times change and I think this change would be best for giving fans what they most want. Complete football experiences with each purchase.

They are already losing money on games, anyway. Find creative ways to make sales with downloadable content and go to a 2 year cycle. I doubt it ever happens but I will be in favor of it when the discussion is brought up.
How do you know they're losing money on their games. I haven't seen anything that has said EA loses money on either Madden or NCAA. And like the other posters have said, they're aren't other licensed sports games that release every other year. We might only see a Battlefield or GTA every few years for example, but those have much bigger crowds and are completely different games that require new worlds to be built and new mechanics to be built as well every time one releases.

That will fill the gap some.
Probably some of the worst advice I have seen on this forum. You want them to turn off roster sharing? So if I want correct names, you want me to rename every single player and fix EA's mistakes when they miss a player? No, just no...

They will never go to a 2 year development cycle. It seems we get into this every year. Even if there were no licensing agreements they would lose way too much money. And yes its about the money.

That is why its called innovation. Something the sports genre has been lacking for a decade.

Just because others arent doing it doesnt mean it isnt a good idea.

the exclusive deal is already done I think, but I think even with the "normal" license agreement, they still have to release a new game every year.

I can just buy a 10 dollar roster from online like I did in pre roster sharing days when I actually bought NCAA.

2 year dev cycle isn't necessary, other games have already demonstrated that a 1 year cycle can work effectively.

I already said a 2 year cycle would likely never happen, but when the topic comes up (and it was brought up several times in this thread) I will lend support to the idea. It would alleviate many issues.

Sales are down with Madden at least @ who asked about EA losing money on games.

Sales being down does not equal losing money.

Further I don't think a longer dev cycle would change anything unless they change what they focus on.
