I think its only for Madden generated classes.

Just re-read the article (you know it takes a couple times to digest the info). Franchise sets up to be sweet.

I really like that hot/cold streaks reset after a max of 3 weeks. That's very reasonable.

The roles are going to finally bring franchise mode back to life. Now I'll be able to identify the make up of a team without perusing through the depth chart.

"Tom Brady is a playoff performer. He's good in the regular season, but something kicks in during the playoffs that boost his ability to win games. Mark Brunell has become a mentor. His role is to support the development of Jets QB Mark Sanchez. Having Brunell as mentor has Sanchez learning and improving at a faster rate. Adrian Peterson is fumble prone. It's in his head now. In big moments, he's more likely to cough up the rock. Sadly, that's his role right now on the Vikings. "

This paragraph just sold the game to me. This is pretty huge.

Hopefully with the new players roles effecting the computer controlled teams in a positive way towards signing free agents, and drafting towards team needs means users wont have to control all 32 teams

Re: Madden NFL 12 - Any Given Sunday In Franchise Mode

i think this stuff should be under the hood. i don't need a label to tell me if someone is fumble prone when i can just watch their performance or check their stats. if someone is future starting qb material, i'd rather read that in a headline or in a scouting report rather than a label. so while i like the idea, i'm not a fan of its vanilla execution.
My score for Madden 13: 4.5/10

3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway.

Re: Madden NFL 12 - Any Given Sunday in Franchise Mode (IGN)

"But roles go beyond game-day performance. The general manager for each computer-controlled team factors roles into his decision on free agents and draft picks. After all, if you have a "quarterback of the future" on the team, there's no reason to draft a QB in the first round. If a team is built on pounding the ball up the middle, they're going to try and sign a running back in free agency who fits the role. "

Although this makes me curious, I wonder if there can be BAD and GOOD GMs? For example, a good GM wouldn't draft 2 quarterbacks of the future, but an awful one would. Be cool if there's "GM Personalities" kinda thing.

So i wonder if every player in the game will have a role, or just the players that actually see the field.

If every player doesnt have a role they could eventually grab one.

I do like everything I'm reading from this article, player consistency and player hot/cold streaks are welcome additions. Nice to see player roles back into the game as well.

I do hope that the follow-up blog on Monday goes into more detail about changes in the structure of franchise mode, such as roster cutdowns, free agent bidding, player scouting, coaching staff management, and so on.

Only players that actually "qualify" for a role will be given one. When this feature was in last gen versions, only a handful of players on each team had a role and it was based on different criteria. Not even all starters were given a role. I believe its the same thing this time around.

just a couple of comments... I'm not liking how there isn't even a different background for the draft, that's just lazy. fumble prone is a pretty simple and dumb label to put on someone as their "role". however having mentor roles that can actually boost other players is a great addition, adds realism for sure. a 20 point swing on mike vick from one week to the next?? terrible.

They're not saying Vick will be up 20 and down 20 the next. 20 is the max and i bet it rarely happens.

I thought the same thing too at first. But then I thought about it a bit more and I can see where they're coming from. Say Vick's overall is a 92 (just a guess). At times he can certainly play as poorly as a 72 OVR player so I suppose 20 pts isn't too big of a stretch, but I think 15 is prbly closer to what it should be IMO.
