Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12

No, no you're not. We don't need the "2K did it already/better/etc" bull****. Not that it isn't true in some cases, but it adds nothing to discussions and leads to comparison argument threads that get locked.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12
I'm not TOTALLY sure, but I think they either scrapped it, or it's more "under-the-hood."http://www.operationsports.com/featu...ise-mode-need/
Roundtable on what needs to be changed
Jayson Young: Get rid of the potential rating!
Age, season stats and playing time should be the only factors in player progression. EA Tiburon's Donny "roster guru" Moore should not be the one who determines which players are going to be studs in Franchise mode and which players are never going to progress.
The CPU teams are completely ignorant of the potential rating, so it's easy to just stockpile "A" and "B" potential players and have a super team built by your second or third season. And in online franchises, everybody just snatches up all the "A" and "B" potential players in the first two rounds, while the dozens of draftees with "C" potential and below are basically worthless since they will never progress.
i hate the Potential rating , like he says it takes the Challenge outta Drafting , i want it to be Hard just like real Life where you hope you get someone good but he can go anyway , that way Busts and Gems are not just Decided based on who uses them (user or CPU)
that way every year team's will maybe have a Bust or two no matter how good their GM is , it seems fair to me
From the Franchise Blog:
Last year’s system was neither fun or challenging…it made the draft ridiculously easy since it gave away a player’s potential before you even started scouted them.
All you needed to do was keep an eye on that potential rating during the draft and you’d draft every late round sleeper in the game.
That’s gone and it’s been replaced by a much more simple, yet challenging system.
There are now several scouting stages, including the regular season, Pro Days, NFL Combine and individual workouts.
At the start of the regular season, every draft rookie’s ratings are locked.
During each stage, you’re allowed to select a limited number of players to scout and the stage itself determines which ratings will be unlocked.
If you scout a player during the Combine stage, you will unlock his physical ratings like speed, agility and strength. If you scout them in Pro Days, you’ll unlock some of his intangibles.
If you choose to scout him during individual workouts, you’ll unlock everything…including his potential and traits. The catch is that you can only scout a small amount of players during individual workouts…so you’ll need to unlock as much information as you can before you get there.
Trust me…this makes the entire process much more challenging and rewarding this year. I’ve gone through a draft and because I scouted poorly, I ended up with a class full of busts. I’ve also found my future Hall of Fame QB in my 49ers franchise by scouting the right players.Comment

One other statement in there:
But the really cool takeaway from this is that you can't order the draft picks by potential in the scouting screen, it looks like they have a projected round on there now to order by instead. But it allows you the chance (though rare) to identify a diamond in the rough prior to the draft if you happen to spend one of your precious individual workouts on a projected 7th rounder who has A/B potential. If you choose to scout him during individual workouts, you’ll unlock everything…including his potential and traits. Copying is a form of flattery. Plus who cares if they took another games idea, if its a good feature I would add it to my game.Comment

Right. And, since the potential rating is under the hood, couple with the limit to just how many players you can scout during that individual workout week, it could potentially mean you'd go into a draft knowing entirely about maybe 5-10 players. It may sound like a lot, but you may luck up and know about a lot of A-B potential players who are possible late round gems, or you may find out that QB you thought was the new face of the organization is really just a player with a limited or no ceiling, or even possibly a bust waiting to happen. I mean, this could really introduce a new strategy factor never seen in sports gaming before, if it all plays out right. One other statement in there:

Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12
I can't wait to find out what the actual numbers are on scouting opportunities. It will really effect strategy. Do I get enough where I can take a few "scouting fliers" on late round guys with plus physical traits or are they so rare that I can't afford to spare any from the processing of vetting my top 1st and 2nd round targets?Right. I'm still wondering about the scouting though, more specifically the "regular season" stage. Can I only scout, say, 20 players throughout the year? Is is still weekly? And what stats are revealed throughout the regular season? I'd like to know if I could scout a need, and reveal just who the 3-4 DE are, so if I don't see one I like, I know to attack it in FA before it comes and I'm stuck lining up a guy who has no business being out there.I can't wait to find out what the actual numbers are on scouting opportunities. Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12
can we edit the rookies before the draft? Draft classes.
Can we edit the rookies' skin tones and faces now that they have real human portraits because that could mean the generated players look way off compared to their portraitsComment
