True, but the problem is if the User can initiate trades in the off season and season but the CPU can't, it alows you to 'cheat' the league. I know for my franchise I won't initiate any non-draft day trades, but it does take a lever away from building your team.

Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12
Just a word folks.....I'm seeing alot of questions about trading players at draft time, or in general. Doesn't happen all that much in the NFL. How many players were traded during the draft this year or last year? they trade picks but rarely players. Sometimes you'll get a player for a pick trade but rarely player for player. It's not like baseball. I can count on one hand the the number of NAME players traded in the last year or so for picks and even less for another player. The cpu is probably more realistic in that regard now.
Be careful what you wish for. I'd rather have what they have now than a franchise mode with a cpu running amuk (sp?) trading Manning and Brady etc (unless they are at the end of their careers......).....trades aren't the big part of the NFL like it is in baseball.
It happend more than you think...Especially trading players for draft picks...It couoldnt happen this year during the draft becasue of the labor situation.
Here are just some recent examples
Marshawn Lynch
Matt Cassell
Randy Moss-to Patriots-then to Vikings
Donovan McNabb
Santonio Holmes
Antonio Cromartie
Braylon Edwards
Ellis Hobbs
Roy Williams (WR)
Charlie Whitehurst
Jay Cutler
Brandon MarshallComment

Like I said, you sometimes get player for pick trades (and you came up with more than I remembered!!!!!
) but how many of these were on draft day? And none were for another player. That's really my point...yes trades happen but it's not like baseball...they aren't that common.

I understand the what you are saying (especially the payer to player trades), but I hope in the future the CPU will trade (even if its only in the offseason or draft time) players for picks (especially aging players who are the decline or just need a change of scenery)Comment

Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12
Actually there are alot of trades involving players on both sides. Yes its not at the level of baseball or basketball but its still a pretty good amount. Here's a list of trades from 2009-2010:Like I said, you sometimes get player for pick trades (and you came up with more than I remembered!!!!!

11 trades where players were involved on both sides. And according to that list of 37 trades none of them took place during the actual draft.

Well no one is asking for the garage selling-esque trading that happens in MLB The Show... we at least want it to actually happen. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth when all you see from the CPU teams in the league transactions is releasing and signing for 10 seasons.Like I said, you sometimes get player for pick trades (and you came up with more than I remembered!!!!!

Also, you're pretty pessimistic about it all! Relax, with adembroski testing the franchise mode extensively and Josh's knowledge about creating a great franchise mode with the work on HC 09 you can be sure this is in good hands.

1 good game (if it in fact does turn out to be a good/great game) doesn't change the fact that '06 - '11 were dead years as far as NFL games.
With that said I'm pretty excited about this blog and eagerly await more news and info. I also will be pre-ordering it as soon as it gets closer. Want to make sure which stores have the best deals.Joshua:

Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12
Sorry, that list wasn't entirely accurate. According to nfl.com in 2010 there were 34 draft day trades and 21 trades made during the offseason. 8 of the offseason trades involved players on both sides (one 3-way trade)Actually there are alot of trades involving players on both sides. Still thats no small amount of trades that happen outside of the draft.

Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12
I have been one of those 2K faithful who has been waiting for the Madden team to catch up with some Franchise features and based on what I'm reading and seeing I may give this game a shot - at least a rental. While I still may not be in love with the gameplay, it's simply been too long for a Franchise-head like myself to keep going with an NFL2K5 franchise mode, and if I really need the gameplay I can always go along with the (now growing) slightly stale 2K football engine of APF2K8. With that said, being a cheery-picker Madden customer - one who buys it on occassion - this one may seem like it's worth it.
I'm really hoping for good things out of this game in terms of Franchise. It's been a long time since I could simply sit back, relax, and spend hours starring at a screen full of numbers and figures while the wifey asks me, "Why the hell aren't you actually PLAYING the game?"
She'll never understand. haha

Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12
Like I mentioned earlier I would like to see some trades, but not too many...Most teams should keep their players while they are still productive...I dont want to see Manning, Brees, Brady, Roethlisberger, Peterson, C. Johnson all traded after year 1...I just think at some point they could be traded due to declining productionActually there are alot of trades involving players on both sides. Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12
I'm very excited about all of the news that has come out about Franchise mode so far because that is where I spend most of my time. I like the all new hubs a lot because I think it gives the game a more simulation look. However, I'll believe all of this news when I have the game in my hands. Idk how many times (excluding last year) that they've been saying that the teams are going to draft players and sign players that they need and it's never happened. Also, I'm hoping that the Madden team has been and will be perfecting Franchise mode and tuning it so there are not bugs that completely ruin the game.
(EX. I read that there will be more players retiring at the end of the season..In previous years I thought there were enough players retiring and idk what year it was but when they started having players retire from injury really killed the game because big stars would be retiring only a few years into their careers) I think retiring from injury should be taken out completely if it isn't already. Also, I just thought about a new detail they could put in Franchise Mode. After the season you have the list of players who retire, they should be put into a separate Free Agency type deal where you can work them out throughout the season and sign them if you want to. And then after like 2-3 seasons after they retire, then be taken off that list so you can't sign them.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 12 Blog - Franchise Mode in Madden 12
Sorry if this has been asked, but the Depth Chart enhancements...will there now be (across all modes) a 3-4 depth chart and a 4-3 depth chart for the one team? Also, will there be a offensive package depth charts? Instead of only having package substitutions in the middle of a game.
Thanks.Kilroy was hereComment
