it doesnt mean they wont make one next year. Then when you buy it next year the improvements will feel even more dramatic. I'd love to see video game companies take more time in between games to work on things instead of rushing out games. As it is now they have a team that works on things in advance but the real grind only gets less than a year of work because they have to rush it out to get it out on time. As consumers we've become so demanding that we need games that feel different, better and perfect but aren't patient enough to allow developers the time needed to achieve those goals. -
Re: 2K Sports Will Not Release NHL 2K12
Me and my brother called this long ago so it's no surprise to me. I liked the series early on but it went downhill from their. Plus when EA announced they had the winter classic this year that was a sign to me 2K wasn't coming out as that was exclusive to 2K. When they wouldn't support 2K10 with patches for the PS3 that was it for me as they didn't care anymore as the fanbase was dead except for some of the hardcores. Now with the Wii version cancelled it is telling of their sales. I don't see a 2K hockey for sometime unless another publisher takes over. It's sad as I liked the series for a time but the game never evloved as it wasn't given the resources to do so."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment

Re: 2K Sports Will Not Release NHL 2K12
Yeah, if it does come back, I don't see it happening until the next consoles drop and the developers basically have to make a fresh start anyways. This way them and EA will basically be on the same footing again. The question is, will Take Two even be willing or will just stick with NBA and maybe MLB? I hope so, having choices is always nice.Comment

Re: 2K Sports Will Not Release NHL 2K12
Thing is, it would have to be worth their while to make the game. Baseball is a lot more popular than hockey in the US. Would an NHL game not made by EA sell enough copies for Sony to justify the investment in the franchise?New Jersey Devils- 1995, 2000, 2003
New York Giants- 1927, 1934, 1938, 1956, 1986, 1990, 2007.

Re: 2K Sports Will Not Release NHL 2K12
They got out of the hockey business last generation. They seem to torpedo any thought of developing any other sports game other then baseball.I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....Comment

Yeah, their Basketball game never became much. I think they just got a great bunch of devs for MLB and that's why they are stickin with it.Comment

Re: 2K Sports Will Not Release NHL 2K12
This really stinks.
And nobody is to blame but 2k and the direction (or lack thereof) they took the series once next-gen came around.
Love it or hate it, Skillstick has been received very well by the masses. And what did 2K do to counteract it? Cold breath and playoff beards.
I don't blame the guys that took over this mess from Kush as it sounds like they had very little time to turn the boat around.
It's just a shame what became of this series. 2K3 was tremendous. I don't think 2K really took advantage of that terrific engine.
I think it'll be a long, LONG time before we see someone else take on hockey. At least not a sim representation. There's not much money in hockey games and EA has a major stranglehold on the market.Comment

im very pissed at 2k first the dropped college baseball on 2k now its the nhl 2k hockey game . then they flat out lied to us. about the game they suck and far as the company its self why in h---ll did they even tell that . fib what it just to get more sales for the basketball what make them think that ea nhl hockey is all that great its plan b----s----t. they need to just sell to mirosoft or sony or some other company thats willing to really spend money in sports viedo games. at least ea-sports is bringing back live in 2012. and not giveing up like a bunch p----ys.

NHL 2k9/2k10 were disappointing at best. Let's wake up and not just be generic EA haters. Their hockey games are great.Comment

Agreed. The series lost its way a bit in the early PS2 days, but EA has done a great job of reviving it.New Jersey Devils- 1995, 2000, 2003

Yeah, a Bummer for sure...
For the uninitiated... Everything that EA has done with their series, has come from 2K Hockey... from the Defensive skill stick, the R-Stick skill-stick, the 1-on-1 R-Stick dekes, the different faceoff options, (you could do all that in the 2K series years ago..), I could go on with more, but...
...and now EA has the 'crash the goalie' and 'net-off-moorings'. This was ALL done in previous iterations of 2k hockey...
EA, I give them credit here, just stole everything and made it BETTER!
I just wish 2K continued w stronger 'Production' leadership.. They had a game in the making that if done right would have mirrored the 2k vs EA NBA outcome...George Bell forever!Comment

Re: 2K Sports Will Not Release NHL 2K12
The comments from Paul <whathisname> (senior marketing dude at 2K) had me believing they were actually working on it. Who knows?
I'm not sure I want to know. If I found out that this game was nearly finished and it had a deep My Player, etc, etc. I'd probably cry.
I loved Fox Championship Hockey for the PS2. It only got one year. But a former developer commented on 2khockey.net that they were 3 months from finishing the sequel and all he said was "you should have seen what was in store".
The lead producer for NHL Slapshot worked on FC2000 as well, and during my short interview with him about Slapshot, he echoed the sentiment saying that the sequel was awesome.
That was painful to hear. I really enjoyed FC2000.
At this point it doesn't matter. But I'd bet that they weren't even working on 2K12 at all.Last edited by Money99; 05-25-2011, 03:46 PM.Comment

Re: 2K Sports Will Not Release NHL 2K12
I'm not that upset with the let down of the NHL 2k series. I'm a huge NBA 2k fan, and I think 2K sports is dominating the game industry with basketball.
Hockey being cut from the line-up may help boost funding to the other games 2k has to offer. Can the Kings turn it around? Come watch my NBA 2K11 Association!Comment

Re: 2K Sports Will Not Release NHL 2K12
Although I'm very disappointed at this news, I can't say I didn't see this news on the horizon. Hopefully Natural Motion's IceBreaker releases later this year and fills the void.
Looking back, I think the team should've built on what 2K8 provided instead of scrapping it entirely in a one-year process. The series suffered from a lot of major overhauls from 2K6 through 2K10, which may have wasted more resources than was needed.
Wish I could elaborate a bit more, but I would only be echoing what else was said. Facepalm city.Owner of URWL CAW WRESTLING: http://www.rantboard.net/Comment
