Go directly to the PSN Store from the XMB?

If you are constantly getting that dumb error then keep on trying and you'll get through with whatever you are trying to do

I believe you have to buy them from the RttS menu in order for it to work. If you buy them directly from the store, it doesn't know which save file you want to put it towards.

Thank you for trying to help. I thought (since the shop was locked from my RTTS screen I could just buy them from the store and activate it that way. Oh well, hopefully I get a refund

That's weird, I'm able to access it just fine. How's it locked exactly?

I've had the same issue as the OP, where training points purchased from the PSN Store are not applied to the game, but points purchased in-game are applied successfully.

I've emailed PlayStation asking for a refund, but I believe I know what the glitch is.

After each purchase, a receipt is emailed to you confirming details of your purchase. The purchase I made from the main PS Store indicates that I had bought points for 'MLB 10 The Show', wherein the reciept for any purchase from inside the actual game correctly displays that I had bought points for 'MLB 11 The Show'.

Looks like there is some confusion between the front-end of the PS Store (displaying purchase information for MLB 11) and the back-end (adding points for last years version of the game)
