Best "Surprise" Recruit You Ever Landed?
In the anticipation waiting for NCAA 12, iv'e been playing a lot of dynasty in 11. I'm in my first season with Pitt, and it seems unless you're a powerhouse it's so incredibly hard to get 5 star recruits.

Re: Best "Surprise" Recruit You Ever Landed?
with unc as a 4* in the 5th year (2nd at unc) i was able to sign the #1 overall recruit a wr that ended up breaking every single season and career for the school and NCAA in his 4 year career, i also brought in the #2 qb who was a 4* in the class and completely changed the program -

i got a 5 star athleate in year 2 as BGSU. he turned out to be a 81 overall HB. got to be 97 as a (RS) JR went to the draft after getting 23 TDsViolence is never the answer, unless the question is what is never the answer? because then the answer would be violence.

Re: Best "Surprise" Recruit You Ever Landed?
As Arkansas State in the 1st year, I signed a 3* Juco Jr. 6'7" 225 lb. receiver. He came in at I think 81 OVR which made him easily the best receiver on my team. Needless to say, I went his way a lot the next 2 years as he broke every school receiving record and a few NCAA one's as well.Comment

Re: Best "Surprise" Recruit You Ever Landed?
As WVU after Geno Smith graduated, I was in a bit of a predicament that I couldn't seem to get a decent QB to commit to WVU. In the last 2-3 weeks of the season I aimed lower at a 3 star recruit in Mario Haley 6'6" QB he came in and was forced to start as a True Freshmen. Kid tore it up, won the Heisman 2 times in his Freshman and Junior Seasons before declaring for the draft.NCAAB: West Virginia Mountaineers

Re: Best "Surprise" Recruit You Ever Landed?
I did a New Mexico Dynasty and I was in desperate need of a QB about 4 years into the dynasty as my only good QB was going to graduate the following season. I got a 3* Scrambling QB named Glen Fields out of Texas and picked up a 3* WR out of Farmington, NM. Anyways, my new QB split time the 1st season, then had an unbelievable career. Won a Fiesta and won 2 National Championships his Junior and Senior Years(1 in the MWC and the other in New Mexico's first season in the PAC-10) and a Heisman Trophy his Sophomore Year. I mentioned WR because he came in the same time and was ridiculous (last name was Allen). Broke records as a WR/KR/PR, won the Heisman Trophy Junior and Senior Year. His best game he had 4 punt returns and a ton of receiving yards. That was my favorite dynasty, turning New Mexico into a Powerhouse.Last edited by cflash22; 06-19-2011, 02:27 PM.Comment

Re: Best "Surprise" Recruit You Ever Landed?
This last year in my ND dynasty I missed out on all my regular season QB targets and Dayne Crist went pro. When more prospects were added post season a 5* Buck Gorman was added, I had free spots so I took a flier on him even though I wasn't in his top 10 the first week.
Recruited him hard for 60 minutes every week and was at the #4 spot going into week five and the last visit. He committed and came in and started. Was like an 81 or 82 overall and had 91 speed.
Every year he threw for over 2500 yards and ran for over 1000. Two Heisman's later he graduated. One year he threw for like 25 TD's and ran for another 20 + with 1800 yards rushing.
Most unstoppable player I've ever had in the entire series.Comment

I use heisman recruiting it can be tough sometimes to land a top recruit if you aren't in Cali, Texas, or Florida but one time I got a one-star FB who came is as an 81 overall and was a beast, he ended up leading my team in TDs and was a beast as a blocker"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: Best "Surprise" Recruit You Ever Landed?
As North Texas, way in like year 2024, I needed a new HB and QB combo like crazy because my senior backups graduated and my junior starters both declared. I got lucky, landed a 4* QB freshmen but could only get a 2* Juco JR HB, he wasn't great but he came in with sick speed, it was 94 or 95. Anyway, those two tore it up, rebounded from a 12-2 season (was 12-0 and then lost Big XII title game to 9-3 Kansas State and then lost the Sugar Bowl to 11-2 Florida) with a 14-0 NC twice in a row. That JR graduated as an 85, with 98 speed..Comment

Re: Best "Surprise" Recruit You Ever Landed?
I've been wanting to get a beast fullback, but every fullback I've recruited in 11 has been tuuurrible. And that's when I can actually manage to get one. Seems like I only get 2-3 max interested each year, and those are usually grabbed by Bama, OSU, Texas, etc.
I honestly can't recall getting any big surprise players. Seems like they're either what I expected, or worse and that's about it, with an occasional pleasantly surprised sprinkled in.-Ohio State-

Re: Best "Surprise" Recruit You Ever Landed?
One time in a Rice dynasty I got a 3 star WR, 5-9 165. After redshirting I moved him to RB and he tore it up. finished with a 90 rating his senior year. His senior year he ran for 1300 yards and caught 60 passes for 900 yards. He was pretty all of my offense.Texas Longhorns

Re: Best "Surprise" Recruit You Ever Landed?
I have the same thing with the fullback recruiting, its so hard to find a good one. I usuaully recruit like 2-3 of Tight Ends and keep one at TE and the other one i'll change his position to FB and then redshirt him so when he gets the starting position he's usually pretty decent.I've been wanting to get a beast fullback, but every fullback I've recruited in 11 has been tuuurrible.
