Re: NCAA Football 12 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I've played about a dozen games on AA, I've played with everyone at least twice. Here's what I see:
Pros:
-Menu music is pretty sweet
-Crowd sounds better
-New tackling engine is pretty good
-No suction blocking or tackling
-Can actually get pressure with a 4 man front
-Zone defense is much improved
-Safeties in a Cover 2 shell are no longer comatose and will actually step up and make plays on the ball
-Harder to score
-Has the new ESPN College Football theme music and background art
-Seems like there are less Olympians playing linebacker
-No more "pull left trigger to disguise your play" nonsense in the play calling screen
-Kickoff returns are now fun
Cons:
-Read options are completely broken, it's almost impossible to option off the DE. Almost every zone read gets blown up in the backfield by the DE regardless of who has the ball. In ~10 serious games I have run about 50 read options and have abount -75 yards on those plays. This must, MUST be fixed in the real thing.
-Seems like DBs still know the receiver's routes
-Play Actions seem to be pretty ineffective still
-Bubble screens are still pretty useless
-Alabama's O-line is OP as hell. Synchronized pancakes by the whole line on every third play is just ridiculous.
-OT, but I wish the "Saturday Night Football" theme (with ESPN on ABC) was in the game for nationally telecast games in the evening.
-Crowd sound was enhanced, but the home field advantage factor still seems to be very muted (ie, no shaking screen, confusion at the line etc)
-No more dancing with the mascot after a touchdown
I got a little sidetracked there at the end but you get the gist of it. Read options and uber pancakes have to be fixed before release. I can live with the rest.
Also, has anyone blocked a kick yet?
