What is your free throw %

Slow night tonight at work. We have a hoop setup outside at the hangar where i work. Its pretty well lit area, in fact some places its hard to shoot because of the lights. Anyways, myself and a co-worker decided that we would shoot 1,000 free throws to get a percentage.

I made 833 out of 1,000 giving me a percentage of 83%. With no breeze outside i think it was an accurate percentage. We took turns attempting 500 free throws each, so there was a break in between. I think if i were to play in a league the percentage would drop due to fatigue. It's a bonus to be able to stand in one spot for 500 shots while you have a person to fetch your makes and rebounds. I've always been a pretty good shooter. My only problem is that i'm left handed and dribbling to the right is difficult for me.

I don't know if 100 shots is enough to get an accurate reading, but i'd love to hear what you guys come up with. Plus its pretty good exercise too.

I wanna do what you do for a living man! Haha! To answer your question, I've always shot around 78-83% from the stripe.

My senior season in HS I shot 90%, but only took 100 free throws that year.

Re: What is your free throw %

I was an 87% free throw shooter in high school and my percentage remains right around there today. It's literally so close to 87% still that it's oftentimes scary. As a coach, I have a lot of access to our school's "Gun" (see below) so I'm able to frequently put in a lot of work there. And sometimes I hit in the 90's out of 100, but then it seems that'll only mean I'll hit somewhere in the 80's for my next 100, which will always seem to even out right around 87%. It's strange, and probably some latent form of psychosis.

Below is a picture of The Gun (for those not in the know). And no, it's not hard to shoot over the net. A normal shot clears just fine. I was skeptical of this machine at first, but it's now actually one of my favorite things in the world. It rebounds, rotates if you like, and tracks your shots and percentages:

I'm a terrible shooter when it comes to consistency, I have tons of problems keeping my jumpshot the same and that translates to my FTs as well.

85% range, I am a very good shooter so I focus on making them when I practice, it's key to me finding my release if I play that day.

0-10% I'm retched in all aspects in bball, the only things I can do consistently are Hook Shots and Granny Shot

But I'm around 75% FT with only the granny shot

How much do one of those things cost? I'd imagine somewhere around the $700 range?

I can't recall (our program bought ours likely around 2005) but I think it was well over $1000 and I remember thinking it was such a waste of funds. I pictured it being just like those old, mechanical, non-electronic metal ones that'd feed the ball along a janky metal route back to an isolated position.

Thankfully, I can sometimes admit when I'm wrong. And I was wrong in this case. Can't say enough about it. It's the easiest and most effective way to put up 700 shots in a little over an hour ever invented. You can work from one position, have it move with each shot (to simulate catching and squaring off the run) and adjust the strength of pass to cater to the fifteen footer, NBA range and beyond, or anything in between. Probably would be my first purchase if I ever ran a basketball program.

And no, it doesn't necessarily work into team practices very often. But for players looking to get their J right on their own time, there's not much that'll be better than this thing.

I'd say like 55% or 60%. My shots very inconsistent, I struggle to keep the same form on my shot so that carries over to my free throws. Thankfully that doesn't matter much when I play pick up games because I'm pretty much a garbage man.
