Tips for Running the Option?
Has anyone gotten good at the option yet? This is a big staple in my offense so far playing the demo I am horrendous at it this year. It seems like every time I go to pitch it I get tackled. Or if I'm about to and I get the pitch off, it's a sure fumble. I have yet to make a good pitch and have my RB/WR get positive yards. Anyone good at it yet or have any tips on running it?Tags: None -
Re: Tips for Running the Option?
Something is wrong with the option in this game. It was fine in NCAA 10 and was slowed down last year and made running the Flex Bone much harder than it needed to be. The demo worries me. Any option play, even the speed option is seriously in slow-mo. When the QB takes the snap he takes forever to accelerate.
This, and the difficulty with running plays out of shotgun makes a lot of teams very difficult to use. -

Yeah I think I'm going to have to go to a more Pro-style offense. Not that mad as I like the Pro-style but I prefer the option.Comment

Thank god. The option is my #1 go-to style. I Always lead the NCAA in rushing offense and defense. If they would've broken the option, i'd be screwed.Comment

Re: Tips for Running the Option?
Yea, people need to quit posting on the forum about this and that being broken and basing it on the demo. You are really going to cause a mess. Use the demo impressions thread if you don't like the way something plays in the demo. There are multiple improvements in the release version and the patch improves other things even further.Comment

Well I'm glad to hear that, but you can't honestly say that past demo iterations were nearly identical to the retail version, so we have reason to be worried when we see something wrong in the demo.Yea, people need to quit posting on the forum about this and that being broken and basing it on the demo. Front page of OS has details of the patch already out. One of the details mentioned is improved option play.Comment

Re: Tips for Running the Option?
1) Don't get GREEDY! If you are getting tackled, just go down unless you have a 100% clear line to the RB...
2) It's okay to utilize the FB in the Triple Option, even if he only gets 2 yards because it keeps them honest.
3) Wait until the retail version comes out with the Day 1 patch before making a judgement...OR read the threads that share this.Last edited by cOWASs68; 07-11-2011, 08:58 AM.Comment

If you are playing the AI, in NCAA 11 and I would assume 12, the FB is a great option to get a nice 5-10 yard chunk. Youhave to read the play correctly. Sometimes, though, if you fail to read a blitz prio to the snap you WILL lose yards.
The most important thing to remeber about the option, in my opinion, is to remember your audibles, especially the quick pass. If your play side looks overloaded, you either have to change your play or risk a lose. Also look at your backside as well. For some reason backside DEs and LBs get to the QB like lightning. Make sure you have enough blockers up front.
One more thing, dont become one dimentional. If you are running a triple option run PA, Sweeps, and Option Passes. If you are running a Spread (read) Option run Fake Read Option Pass plays.
One final tip, work the clock. You have 3 downs, use them. Especially in games against No-Huddle teams. If not you will most likely find yourself in a shootout. Doesn't matter how good your defense is, the more the offense has the ball, the more chances to score. (Note, to some this might be a little cheap. I would recommend, just taking off a few extra seconds more than the AI.Thanks to LBzrules: So these threads won't be forever lost.
