since everyone seems to think that ratings don't matter, i don't see how there could be an issue with any player being a 99.My score for Madden 13: 4.5/10
3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway. -

they're 99 based on the active players. they're being compared to the current players, so the elite of the current players should be at 99.My score for Madden 13: 4.5/10

Re: Madden NFL 12 Has Rated Four Players at 99, Overrated? Who Missed the Cut?
I'm amused by the Antonio Gates vs. Witten debate here. I wish this debate happened in Week 12, before Gates finally stopped playing (after having suffered a severe foot injury since the start of the season!)... at that point, Gates was playing the best football from the TE position I have ever seen. I think hindsight is blinding people here. Gates was scary dominant those 10 games, even with the foot injury.
In 10 games, Gates had 10 TDs. (Witten had 9 in 16 games)
In 10 games, Gates had 3 100+ yard performances. (Witten had 1 in 16 games)
Gates had a career high 78.2 yards per game (Witten: 62.6)
More yards per game, more 100+ yard games where he simply took over games, and more TD's... and Gates did it in 6 LESS games! Are you kidding me?
And who were defenses worrying about against San Diego? No Vincent Jackson and all the receivers were injured half the time... Gates got all the defensive attention but it didn't matter.
Compare that to Witten who was practically given all the underneath stuff on a platter from defenses worrying about Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, and even Roy Williams.Last edited by phillysouljah; 07-18-2011, 09:10 PM.Comment

Amused at the fact that Witten's 44 more catches again aren't mentioned. ALSO Jon Kitna was QBing this Cowboys team a majority of the year and threw Witten 8 of his 9 touchdowns!I'm amused by the Antonio Gates vs. Witten debate here. So by your 6 less games argument. . . Miles Austin was deserving of being higher than Larry Fitz and Calvin because he put up more yards (than Fitz and Calvin) and 6 more td's than Calvin in 5 less games. Sooo Miles should have been a 96-98 OVR?Comment

But Timmy Chang was never really considered an elite college player was he?college doesn't mean much bro. I watched Timmy Chang set countless records @ Hawaii. he couldn't even get through an NFL training camp.
70-79 is way too high tho. why not let their ratings go up when they actually DESERVE it instead? let's not forget about the "absolute elite sure-bet rookies" (chuckle) that crap out every year.....Alex Smith, Troy Williamson or Jamarcus Russell? the list goes on and on. let them stay at 65-70...that's what roster updates are for.
i hear you scfootballfan, but i guess thats why nba 2k is a great SIM (lower ratings) and Madden is not.Comment

That's perfect. Now.. someone go edit all of the players down to these standards!
Only real problem I have is with the draft picks. You never know how 3rd and 4th rounders will turn out, so I think it's jumping the gun to set their ratings like that.Comment

It's absurd that players actually care about these ratings.Roster share would be so fantastic. I like so many want stretched ratings but don't have the time, patience or energy to re-rate the entire league. I would prefer that the game shipped with stretched out ratings with 1-5 95+ players in the league, but I personally don't care if TJ Houshmazzilly is upset with a 68 OVR.
To expand upon that thought, ratings should be done by a group so they get done correctly. As it is now, players know who to complain to when their ratings are low, and sometimes influence a change.Comment

Based off last year Revis shouldn't be a 99ovr an Troy shouldn't either. Troy was a bum in the superbowl.Comment

Brady OVERRATED! Should be rated a 94, Troy Polamalu 99, Gates should be a 89, Revis 99!“What’s better than one billionaire? 2.....”Comment

Re: Madden NFL 12 Has Rated Four Players at 99, Overrated? Who Missed the Cut?
You are obsessed with these 44 more catches! What's your point, more catches shows who is better? Or who puts points on the board? Who gets more yards? Not catches. Yards/TDs/W's is what matters in the NFL. That's like saying X RB is better than Y RB because he has more carries. . . WTF?Amused at the fact that Witten's 44 more catches again aren't mentioned. ALSO Jon Kitna was QBing this Cowboys team a majority of the year and threw Witten 8 of his 9 touchdowns!

Re: Madden NFL 12 Has Rated Four Players at 99, Overrated? Who Missed the Cut?
I hate this argument. That's like saying everybody on the Packers should be a 99. Should Rex Grossman have been a 99 if the Bears won the Superbowl a few years ago? Should Big Ben have been a 99 in Madden 07?
Back on topic, I'm glad to see Troy finally got the 99 rating that he deserved last year. Antonio Gates is iffy though, because you need a tight end to block, and he doesn't do that. Revis and Brady fully deserve it in my opinion though.Comment

Revis i would put at 98. Him and Nnamdi i'd put them both at 98. Part of the problem is teams don't throw on them but teams have had success on Revis on a big play or 2. Moss got him deep. I know it's a rare thing for something like that to happen but when you only get thrown on a short amount of times it makes the successful plays more noticeable because they usually are big plays. So the game should reflect that. Teams should try to avoid throwing on these guys, and by teams i mean cpu AI, but when they do there is that slight possibility for a big play but other than that they're pretty much lockdown.
Brady & Manning should be the only 99s. The 2 of them at this point in their careers are both already top 5 All Time QBs. When you watch these 2 you are looking at the perfect examples of what it is to be a QB. The way they approach the game, the mental aspect and knowing their opponents and the defenses they run, the leadership aspect with how they control and command their teammates. The confidence aspect where the Colts & Patriots always feel that they are fine when the ball is in their hand. The coaching aspect to where they both read the defense at the line and change and call the plays based on what they see and how they seem to always know which WR to throw to. The accuracy on short passes, deep balls, screen passes, the finesse, the velocity. The 2 of them could go down as the greatest 2 to play the game. I'd put Brady right behind Montana and Peyton ahead of Marino with Utitas at 3. So 1. Montana 2. Brady 3. Unitas 4. Manning 5. Marino.Comment
