Dynasty: Recruiting as Coordinator
I just started my dynasty as an offensive coordinator and was curious how everyone else was approaching recruiting as I noticed it will let you recruit same as always.

Re: Dynasty: Recruiting as Coordinator
In my first year as Army Offensive Coordinator and the way I approached it was:
Allowed myself to put 4-5 offensive players on the recruiting board (to simulate asking a head coach to take a look at a couple guys for my offense)
Set the offensive recruiting position types to fit my offense
Only allowed myself to set one offensive position as high recruiting focus
Only red-shirted offensive positions and only if they were freshmen
Turn on all the assists and simulate recruiting every week (I don't dictate one minute of recruiting manually). My gameplay and recruiting is set to Heisman.
So far the cpu recruiting has signed a 3* Tackle and a 2* HB that were two of my five that I originally requested. The other three have already signed elsewhere.
It also signed a 3* ATH so I am going to have to think about how I am going to determine if I or the defense gets him. Considering we are 0-10 and giving up 35-40 per game I may hand him over to the D without much thought.
I love not having control over it. Makes it fun to watch week to week what your recruiter is able to do and start thinking about how you can use what he gets you. Will also make it that much more rewarding to move up to head man and be able to have full control.Last edited by Dogslax41; 07-21-2011, 12:24 PM. -
Re: Dynasty: Recruiting as Coordinator
I like the idea of only recruiting your players, but there seems to be a problem when setting the CPU to recruit. I haven't run any tests, but here are my concerns.
Let's say I put CPU recruiting assist on. I only recruit defensive players as I am D-Coordinator. I spend 5 hours on recruiting my players and leave 5 hours for the CPU to recruit offensive players. I only add my players to the recruiting board.
1. How do I tell the CPU to only add offensive players to the recruiting board? Won't the CPU add both offense and defensive players?
2. Will the CPU take some of my guys off the recruiting board? I've seen in past games when I accidentally left CPU recruiting assist on, I come back to the board and the CPU took off some guys I put on and added many more guys.
If we can somehow make the CPU only add recruits from Def or Off and not mess with my recruits, this might work.Comment

Re: Dynasty: Recruiting as Coordinator
It is not unrealistic for a coordinator to recruit players. Now they may not be doing outside of their realm of control, but they do it. I have a friend who is a grad assistant coach and they actual go recruit as well. The idea of only recruiting for the side of the ball that you control and letting the comp to the rest is a great one, and I have been thinking about doing the same...just not sure I trust the cpu to do it right, but that the crap shoot you take. Great question and great response. It's always good to see peeps doing thatI came in an Indian and walked out a Red Wolf!!!Comment

Especially if they are recruiting an athlete, and many coaches have expertise on both sides of the ball, they just happened to get a job coaching one or the other.I came in an Indian and walked out a Red Wolf!!!Comment

Good points. I think i'm going to recruit one side of the ball so it feels like a step up when I get a HC job.It is not unrealistic for a coordinator to recruit players. Thanks for the input fellas.

Re: Dynasty: Recruiting as Coordinator
I usually let the CPU simulate a good chunk of the recruiting time each week, but I'll always recruit before the first game. Even if it's just using an hour per player, there's usually one or two guys who will give you an instant commit. I loooooove the +5000 popping up

I like this idea and started last night with Ark State. Lost the first game pretty bad but got a commit right away--but on defense. Might have to keep an eye on the board to make sure it's balanced properly. In my first year as Army Offensive Coordinator and the way I approached it was:
Allowed myself to put 4-5 offensive players on the recruiting board (to simulate asking a head coach to take a look at a couple guys for my offense)

Re: Dynasty: Recruiting as Coordinator
I just finished up my first season and one thing to note for anyone doing something similar to what I described, make sure you watch the board if you are using the position focus setting. I had my RB set to High and didn't watch the board and going into my second season the CPU had signed 5 HBs and they were all 1-2 stars. So I will need to make sure to keep an eye on the players that the cpu puts on the board when I use that setting.
All in all the cpu recruited a decent class though. Dominant number of 2 stars with a sprinkling of 3s and a couple 1s. Exactly what I would expect maybe even a bit better than an 0 - 12 Army team would have recruited.
In addition to my recruits I got a 3 star HB and SS from Virginia Tech so hopefully we will be able to get into the win column in season 2.Comment

I did all my recruiting manually simply because I wanted a head start in the promise section. I make promises to kids as a coordinator, fufill those promises and as a head coach have the ability to make a major promise to a kid and earn almost 200 points during a phone call.

Re: Dynasty: Recruiting as Coordinator
To solve this issue I have come up with a simple little solution.
STEP 1) CPU FILL THE BOARD
I let the computer setup the entire recruiting board in the preseason. When i advance to week one the board has 35 players.
STEP 2) WEED DOWN THE LIST FOR THE CPU
I then go through and remove all players from my side of the ball. Next I remove players from the list (starting at the bottom and moving up) to get the number down to 12. Now the HC and other coordinator have their players on the list and then its my turn to add mine.
STEP 3) ADD MY PLAYERS
I will then add a max of 10 players of my choice. I limit myself to 10 so the possibilities of hitting one of the bonuses (x2, unlock, etc....) is better.
STEP 4) RECRUIT
Once the list is setup I will use 5 hours for my guys and leave the rest for the cpu. I turn off list privileges for the CPU but leave on visits and offers.
STEP 5) SEE IF I NEED TO REFILL OTHER SIDE
I check and see if the list gets below 15 total or the other coordinators list gets below 8. If so I will turn on list privileges for the cpu and let them fill the board again. I will then repeat the steps above.Last edited by PocketScout; 07-22-2011, 09:41 PM.NCAA 2014: Current DynastyComment
