    Passing Game

This years NCAA game could have been such a great game, however, the passing game is a TRAIN WRECK!

Psychic DB's & LB's, DB's & LB's mirroring your route (even running the route before the WRs does), WRs letting the ball hit them in the face without attempting to catch the ball, WR's not fighting for the ball, players backpedalling as fast as guys running forward, players shuffling sideways at super human speeds for really long distances, Super Leaping LB's, zero arch on the ball when trying to pass over a DB or LB, no defensive or offensive pass interference calls, DB's sliding around WR to get INTs, WR's very often dropping the ball as soon as they get hit, post routes are completely useless.......I could go on and on.

This is just a few examples I have noted on the OS board and issues I have experienced myself.

The passing game needs a complete overhaul. It's sad really because they claimed they just "fixed" zone defense, which in my opinion and many others, the "fix" was the amplification of psychic DBs, sliding, and super fast shuffling and backpedalling.

What needs to be done? First and foremost, fix the issue of DBs mirroring the WR's route and psychic DBs. Just take that out of the game. Secondly, fix the trajectory of the ball. Currently, you cannot drop the ball to a WR between a LB and safety over the top. Because of this, a lot of routes are useless in most defensive situations such as post route, corners, fades.

Third, WRs NEED to be able to fight for the ball. They need to be able jump up and get the ball with authority. Right now, they are too passive and just let the ball come to them and let the DB jump up and get the ball. Fourth, backpedalling and shuffling needs to be fixed. In real life, DBs only really stay in a packpedal for 7-10 yards AT MOST! Also, in real life, players only shuffle for maybe 3-5 yards AT MOST! In NCAA 12, players do these things for up to 30 yards and at no cost to speed or endurance! Lastly, pass interference needs to be fixed. DBs can run through WR to get the ball because there isn't any PI calls. Also, it needs to be called both ways.

I think if these changes are implemented next year for NCAA 13, it could be a really enjoyable experience.

    Re: Passing Game

I am about to give up on the game as WRs IQ is so low. They never go for the ball and when the CB is overtop of the WR on a streak route when you "underthrow" him he just stands there and the CB comes back and INT or knocks the ball down.

I loved the demo with the new tackling that feels more realistic but the passing game sucks beyond any question this year.

      Re: Passing Game

At what point did the Receiver ever go for the ball in any title?

Passing is a waste of time in this game. LB's with 15 ft Verts, DB's that make Derelle Revis look like a JV player, and Lineman that make Andre the Giant look like an Amateur wrestler.

Here's a hint to Easy Wins. Run the Wing-T offense, and Pound the Ground. Utilize your FB, HB, and QB. Mix up carries, and you'll be down the field pissing off your opponent. Even the "SMART AI COMPUTER DEFENSE" on Heisman can't figure it out.

      EA Sports at it's finest!

        Re: Passing Game

Frankly, I just run. I'll pass on some quick slants, maybe a screen here or there. I mean, I run about 45 times game now.

The linebackers are absurd. That's if the ball reaches that far when 75% of my passing attempts are somehow swatted down by the defensive line when they are 3 yards away from my QB. Then when you finally get the ball past 5 yards in the air, it hits the WR in the face. Of course, when you switch to the WR for a manual catch (pretty much the only way to catch the ball if the WR isn't wide open), the game slows you down for a split second, making the ball overthrown way too often.

        Any tips? I can't even have a 50% completion game on all-american.

Also, running is too easy. I get like 500 yards every game on the ground and I only run straight up the middle following the blockers. How about some balance in this game? I've only used UCF and Iowa State in my dynasty thus far, so it's not like I'm killing it with the next Bo Jackson. Although, the Jackson runningback on ISU is kind of a beast by his senior season. Not sure if I played through the careers of all the real players yet...

I couldnt agree more with every single post in this thread! I have attempted to start a dynasty and currently found all of these issues. I have completely given up on the passing game. I have found running the ball actually very easy, I can avg 200+ online with Latimore.

EA seriously needs to fix this with a patch

            Re: Passing Game

My biggest complaint with the passing game is the ball trajectory. After that I really have no problems with the passing game. The only time a LB ever picks me off is when I'm dumb enough to throw a bullet over his head which would never work in real life.

            <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/e2pNhncQPlw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

That's honestly how most of my passes over the middle are. Only time I get a "super" LB is when I am the dumb one throwing a bullet right over the middle when there is a LB there.

I'm not saying everyone complaining about the super LB is wrong and dumb for throwing a bullet. I am just saying when we all know the LBs have the "super" ability, we shouldn't try and throw a bullet over the middle when we know what will likely happen. Even if the pass trajectory is wrong, and it is, it's still our own faults for throwing it like that. You have to lob it like I did in that video, and trust me I only tapped the button on that pass. It was a short distance, so it wasn't like your typical lob.

This is from another thread talking about the passing game as well.

I won't disagree w/ the Leaping LBer's and Psychic DB's, but as one who runs a 5-Wide offense and passes 60 times a game, or more, I still have great success. Despite the thought that 5-Wide is cheese, it isn't. I drop back, stay in the pocket, read the defense and make the correct throw.

I audible accordingly and Hot Route when necessary and I am hitting around 73% of my passes w/ very few interceptions. In roughly 30 games I've had 11 picks... one which hit my WR right in the hands, popped up and right into a DB's hands. That's roughly 1800 passes and only 11 picks... so not too bad.

It's been mentioned that EA has Linebackers Jump Ability way too high. If you go in and search you will find LBers w/ Jump Ability in the 85-95 range, which is insane. One fix for this is to edit all of them... but that's a lot of work.

I wholeheartedly agree that ball trajectory is screwed up and DB's that know routes, etc... but these have plagued the game for years. Can't wait for this crap to finally be taken care of. Maybe the next, nex-gen???

The only thing I agree with is that the recievers drop a lot more passes than other years.
Everything else is good for me. I complete the same number of passes as the other years.
Passing to me is even easier because now i can actually go deep and have a chance to catch the ball. In other years trying to go long would get intercepted or knocked down every time.

                  Re: Passing Game

I don't bullet passes unless it's a go route with the linebacker edging, often blitzing, and the the safety sagging off. I usually can hit it right after the snap with success (manual catching) between the blitz and the reaction of the safety. That or a curl. Maybe an out or a post if the my WR found space. I usually don't risk that pass because somehow my QB manages to throw 3 feet to the left on passes 15 yards or longer. Even if he has his feet set in the pocket... BTW, what attribute should I look for to stop that from happening? His accuracy is low 90's and his awareness is 99.

But yea, it's the the point where I don't throw any kind of risky pass anymore. I usually look for my WR to be raising his hands he's so open (you know the animation). The passes still get swatted down or smacked in the WR's facemask.

I have to watch some video. No way should passing be this difficult and I haven't even moved up to Heisman yet.

And I do hot route, move WR to pair mismatches or open space and such. Doesn't really help. Of course I could be choosing the wrong routes.

                    Re: Passing Game

I have tired just about everything to figure out the passing on this. I never had the problems with any previous version that I have with this one. It doesnt matter if my WR is wide open, as soon as I touch the button every db on the field (and even some from the bench I think) turn on the turbos towards my WR. I counted 6 around one of my many knocked downed attempts on long vertical passes. How if you are running a spread play does every DB on the field make it to the one player you threw the ball to...before the ball??

The classic had to be the safety who was 15 yards ahead of my receiver and I threw a bullet pass to the WR. The safety was looking away from me, yet did a 180, never missed a step or slowed down and picked the pass for a TD. I watched the replay 6 times and it blew my mind.

I know I am not the greatest player, I play on varsity with sliders. But what do you down about DBs who seem to know the plays and run the routes better than the WRs?? It is bad enough to watch the ball just fall into the hands of the dbs while the WRs are waving at the cheerleaders..but dang AI...please at least give me a chance!

                      Re: Passing Game

The thing that is most frustrating is that the passing game has gotten worse. Usually things stay the same with EA but this overall game as a whole been worse. Ive been in a game an completed 70 percent of my passes but had 3 INT by the same damn DB. No I dont suck...but when u run a post route and how can a CB that is completely behind a WR reach completely out for a INT but your WR barely puts his hands up in a catching animation? Thats completely asinine. I threw an INT at the GL where a LB jumped and caught it one handed lol...it was a bullet pass that was pretty much 1 yd out lol...no way you can defend this...

Just had an interesting drop in my dynasty, I'm Boise state and I have a tight in doing a 10 yard in route. I throw to him when he's breaking inside to the left and he does a 180 to attempt to catch it when he could have just normally caught it.

Last gen produced the best games hands down...they do some very illogical animations especially on WR screens...these dudes will catch the ball and basically spin slow motion then run up field...pretty much allows a LB with 76 spd to catch up to a WR thats in open field with 97 spd...its redic.

I also like how linebackers with low 60's catch rating can catch over the shoulder passes while some of my wide receivers can't catch simple curl routes when wide open.

After playing 100+ games online this year, passing seems nearly fine to me. I like how aggresive the defense is this year. Last year people got away with entirely too much. The only time I throw pics are if I make a bad read, over or under throw. I have no problem dropping it over line backers or between safeties when the ball is thrown on time and correctly.
