Coordinator Only?
Anybody think they will remain a coordinator and not accept any HC positions? I'm using the Canes running their D and loving it. I still get to recruit, the games don't take long and I'm still getting realistic stats. One drawback is the inability to run special teams. I kinda suck on punt returns and I can't pass well either so it seems like D is where I belong. Looks like the Florida job will open soon in my dynasty. I'm not sure I'm gonna accept an HC job if offered. Charlie Weiss shoulda stayed out of the HC position and remained a coordinator IMO. Anybody else feel like they will stay on just one side of the ball in their dynasties? I'm kinda curious. What side are you running and who are you using?Tags: None -
Re: Coordinator Only?
I'm currently playing as an OC. Having a ton of fun even though my team is losing like it's the new winning. But looking over and seeing my defense ranked 107th in the nation just gets under my skin. That alone will have me accepting a HC job when the time comes. I don't think I can trust another scrub coordinator to use the players I recruit as well as I would. Plus I miss playing D and special teams.I bleed Garnet and Gold. In The 'Slim Reaper' We Trust. Go Noles!Comment

Re: Coordinator Only?
Im with noles on this one..in my 4th year as OC, defense gives up atleast 25 a game (heisman). Its just annoying when i know i could hold the opponent to 10 a game, or less. Ill be accepting my HC position as soon as a good one is offeredCoach Walter White UNM Lobos [43 - 0]

Re: Coordinator Only?
I am tempted to jump ship at the first opportunity, but it felt so rewarding to make the big stop in overtime to win the prestigious New Mexico Bowl that I think I may stay on defense for a while.Comment

Re: Coordinator Only?
My offense is putting up points! In my second year controlling the D and only one of my 2 losses was because of lack of points. I got upset by K- state because I couldn't stop their last drive. My offense is very trustworthy. Sticking to D for the near future.Comment

Re: Coordinator Only?
See I guess mileage can vary. If I get an offer to coach my Noles or another talent stacked school I might be okay sticking it out as a lifer OC. Because I can be sure that the other side of the ball is skilled enough to hold its own. When I have time I watch the defense play. So I've seen instances where "the DC" will call a certain zone or cover play and I'm like what are you doing? Sure enough, burned for a 50 yard run or 40 yard pass. I expect the D to be bad (started out as OC for a 1 star TB school) but the decision making in defensive play-calling is mind boggling. That and I lost a game 27-26 because after I scored what I thought could be the winning TD in OT, the kicker apparently missed the extra point. Wish I could have controlled the kick. Boston College then scored on my voyeur defense and instead of a tie game after the extra point, they won the game. Yeah, I'm still mad. hahaha. But hey, it's still a ton of fun. And I do like the fact that you have to earn the right to make those calls/perform those functions (special teams, kicking, defense) by earning a job as a head coach.Last edited by Ziza9Noles94; 07-28-2011, 06:54 PM.I bleed Garnet and Gold. Re: Coordinator Only?
So I was OC at Penn State. I led Joe PA to a NC. He retires, and here I am thinking they are going to offer me a job. Nope they decided to go in a different direction. I got hot and left for my Alma Mater USC to be there OC. 13-1 record then the gators come calling to be there HC. I took the job but kinda nervous cuz I haven't played any defense. Think I miss being an OC already, but want to be fully in charge. We shall see.Comment

Re: Coordinator Only?
Question: I thought I read somewhere that there's a glitch with being OC. That you'll routinely end up with more than twice the time of possession than your opponent because the CPU's drives are fast and short. That's why I've avoided it. Is this true? It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

Re: Coordinator Only?
Yeah. It's because the CPU doesn't have an accelerated clock unless it's near the end of the game and they are winning. So they break the huddle with 30 seconds to go on the play clock and snap it maybe 5 seconds later on average. So that's 20-25 seconds per play that they aren't using. You, as a human, occasionally take some time to browse through your playbook, or make adjustments at the line, or motion, or audible, which chews up a lot more clock per play on average.
It's not game killing, but it can be annoying. It doesn't occur when you are a DC because you sim your offense, and you need to be ready when the CPU offense wants to snap.
Another annoying glitch as OC or DC is the TV coverage glitch. Your TV coverage rating in recruiting goes down every year until it's ranked as a "D," because the game isn't saving your TV games record. It will say 0-0 no matter how many games you've played on TV. It doesn't start working until you get an HC position.
I'm currently Louisville's DC. I started at North Texas and while we had a good record, I gave up TONS of passing yards until I got my sliders right, plus I rearranged my conferences a little and I play SMU and Houston every year now in C-USA. Both shred me for 500+ passing yards a game, minimum. Partly because they throw 50-70 times a game and partly because my fastest DB has like 83 speed. I have overall game speed toggled down to 30, so they get beat deep often, even when I set pass coverage and zone coverage to conservative.
Every offseason but the first, I have been offered a HC position at a 1 star school. I was also offered at UCF and Clemson in year 2 and 3. I finally took Louisville's offer before season 4 because I had gotten so sick of stopping my opponents time and again, only to have the offense go 3 and out, or worse, turn it over inside our own 30.
I'm looking forward to being offered a good HC position at a 4 star or higher school. I will take the first one that comes my way, unless it's for a school I hate... like Florida or USC!Comment

Plus, I also miss playing offense! I've barely played it in this game since I pretty much jumped right in and started my dynasty as a DCUniversity of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: Coordinator Only?
It has certainly felt that way. Most of my opponents drives seem to last under 2 minutes, while I usually run about 4 minutes off the clock.Comment

Re: Coordinator Only?
Does anybody else supersim their offense or defense as a head coach? I enjoy playing offense but really struggle on the defensive side. I was going to be an OC throughout my dynasty but I wanted to keep track of my record.Comment

Re: Coordinator Only?
Overall, I loved being an Offensive Coordinator. But once when I got a Head Coaching opportunity at a horrible New Mexico State, I took it. There's something about Head Coaching that, just, makes you feel better. Plus, I only Recruited for my side of the ball. (I simmed the Defense)
It just makes you feel like you're in the spotlight, like your in charge I guess. It's frustrating too recruit though, that's for sure! (I went from Maryland Recruiting too New Mexico State Recruiting) But if I do well my first year, I will hopefully get a Head Coaching Job right away. I usually like staying for at least two years per school but, Recruiting is just so pitiful. I hope to get a Job Opportunity at USF! (Skip Holtz has a 8% Job Security)Head Coach there for around 4-5 years, Then move on too my Dream Job at FSU.
