Problems running the option.

For some reason i CANNOT run a successful option play, I always get stopped either behind the line or I might get a yard or two. Does anyone else notice this or do I just suck?

Absolutely have the same problem. Actually, in coach mode, even with tweaked sliders, i havent been able to run the ball at all, let alone an option play.

Any option, I have tried with several teams, Auburn, Arizona St.,Texas, Im going to try with Navy and if i cant run the option with them, well then ill never try again.

Hard and fast rules for triple option - You have to read the play side end. If he stays, you give to the fullback. If he attacks, you keep and possibly pitch.

Sometimes you can get away with doing the opposite and sometimes even when you do the right thing you still get stopped, but running the triple option is most definitely possible.

Herein lies the problem.

Basic basic reading rule....this doesn't apply to all

Triple option, read the play side defensive end. If he crashes down, keep it. If he slow plays it, give it to the FB.

Shotgun option, read the defensive end on the same side of the HB. If he makes a bee line toward the HB, keep it. If he slow plays it, give it to the HB.

Reading is not the problem. The line blocking is the problem. I've seen limeman ignore the guy in front of them and run upfield to block a safety who isn't even in the play. In the meantime, the free man is blowing up my option in the backfield. This is in the CPU vs CPU games I have watched with run blocking turned up and rish defense turned down.

Running to the outside in this game is a joke because of the screwy blocking.

If your playing on AA or heisman it's because If the run is going right to the outside the cb on that outside will know and just take off to stop the run outside even if he's suppose to play man/zone. Aka the game cheats

And yeah, you're right. I have noticed that the playside DB's magically know that it's a run even if I have been passing all the way down the field.

I've always known that the CPU cheats but it seems much more obvious this year.

Completely agree. I'm not sure what to do to resolve this issue either.

This might be a stupid, but are WRs suppose to block on option plays? I've noticed some options plays have the WRs running up field, but some that ask them to stay and block. In either instance I've observed that the secondary can blow right by the receivers and blowup my option in the backfield. This happens if either the QB keeps it or pitches to the HB.

I expect to lose some yards on some option plays, but for the life of me I just can't get anything going with the option.

The WR's are supposed to block on the outside, from my understanding of option football. I've seen what you're talking about also, with one WR running upfield like it's a pass play instead of blocking the corner, so that corner runs in and blows up the option. Doesn't matter if the QB keeps or he pitches to the HB. It's still going to be a 1 yard gain at best, unless the HB can break a tackle. That's the only time I have big gains on outside runs.

The only option plays that works are gives to the FB up the gut, so my FB is usually my leading rusher.

Well it must really suck then if youre playing with a team like Navy that only runs triple option and variations of triple option.
