Why aren't people focused on improvement?

Seeing all the effort people put into discussing whether or not people should "hate" Madden has given me a thought. Why don't more people put more effort into discussing ways to improve the game? People expend huge amounts of energy here discussing the past or pointing out flaws, but it seems there is so little effort put into coming up with ideas that would make the game better. More importantly, it seems like there is very little effort put into refining or improving upon other people's ideas for the game. This community could easily be a hotbed of ideas for improving Madden, and yet the Wishlist section is a ghost town compared to other sections.
If people would take the energy they put towards bashing the game or discussing the past and turn it towards trying to improve what we have, we might end up with nothing to complain about.

What do you think? Should this community try to focus more on improving the game?

Because it's easier to complain rather than to be constructive or offer legit solutions?

So you think it's just laziness?

It just bothers me when I see huge, but pointless discussions going on, and yet the Wishlist forum remains completely dead.

I think it's a lot of things. I think it's the nature of the internet and it's relative anonymity. I think it's the sense of entitlement some people have. I think there are people who simply like to complain for the sake of complaining.

Then you add in the people with agenda's based on the license fiasco, or the straight hatred of all things EA. I think for some it's become vogue to blindly criticize all things EA.

It's too bad. We have some people here who offer up solid solutions or have great idea's and they get drown out by all the white noise.

This community was a hotbed of wishlists a few years ago.

Everyone wants something different and they want it yesterday. It could be presentation, it could be game play, it could be franchise, it could be online franchise, etc....

Everyone has a different opinion of what's important and what's not important.

            You tell us.

I've seen you discuss in many of those "pointless" discussion but even though I didn't have time to go through all your posts, I don't remember seeing any in the wishlist forum.

I probably have more posts in the wishlist forum than the vast majority of members here. I started two threads on the first page of that forum. Go check.
As for my part in the "pointless" discussions, I discuss anything I find interesting, but you'll find I always try to go out of my way to at least comment when someone has a good idea for improving the game.

Exactly! With so many different opinions, there should be tons of discussion of how best to improve the game. In my mind there should be a huge ongoing discussion somewhere about how best to improve different aspects of gameplay. There should be another about presentation. Another about franchise mode. Having a wide variety of opinions about what is important should be producing more discussion, not less.

                  Whoops.

Fail on my part, sorry Argoos, I obviously didn't view enough posts.

The problem is probably visibility. If you are looking to get the most attention possible, why wouldn't you post it in the main board, where everyone would see it?

Plus, keep in mind that people are generally pretty dumb. This is about the time that we get an influx of trolls and general idiocy, so that doesn't help.

Re: Why aren't people focused on improvement?

Let's take consecutive hit tackling and suction as an example of improvements that people asked for. People have been complaining about suction and the lack of consecutive hit tackling for years, and it's been addressed, finally. That's why there's a lot of angst.

People were clamoring for many of the features from HC09; this year, we're finally getting a good number of them. People have been asking for an online franchise that rivals NCAA's. That still has yet to be addressed.

This year, it's seems like EA listened to many of the community complaints. The trailers seemed to talk directly to the community, but people have been asking for those improvements for quite some time

Re: Why aren't people focused on improvement?

I usually try to give feedback on games that I play, including ways to fix things or improve on things, as well as brand new ideas all together. What I have found is that developing teams that publish with EA are the least receptive to feedback. That's not a knock on them, because I don't think it's all that reasonable to expect developers to respond to community feedback.

That being said, there are a lot of simple little things that they leave out of their games, things that I and others have been suggesting for years. It's gotten to the point where I just kind of scratch my head and say, okay... Guess they're gonna go their own direction...

And again, this isn't a knock, because I know coding gets complicated... And their are deadlines, etc...

But still, I think that may answer your question. I mean, there are only so many times people can call for certain things before they just throw their hands up and say, you know what? Forget it. And so those voices go silent for the most part.

These are one and the same imo. Most of us can't tell EA how to program their game or fix the problems, all we can do is point out what we don't like about it.

I don't see much diffference between "the running animations suck/look robotic" and "madden needs more variety in running styles"...except one sounds a little nicer when you read it.

Because wishlists and suggestions fall on deaf ears. Some of us have spent YEARS making lists and suggestions. (very good lists and suggestions) In the end none of it does any good because we are such a small minority. Most people who buy madden will not bother coming to any of the forums to complain, make suggestions or even praise the game so all you have left are the disgruntled die hards or content madden lovers.

Honestly, if you wait until about a week after the early downloads get it (only people that actually gave the game though please) and put together a concise list of any issues or suggestions that can be made... I will send it to the right people. Then if you want to do a separate one for Madden 13 I will do the same.
