    No Love for the Color-Blind

I'm sure most of you won't be affected, but those of us with red-green color vision deficiency will have a hard time calling plays with the new color scheme in the play call box for Madden 12.

Basically, the colors red and green are one and the same and don't contrast for us like normal people. Thus, having a green background and the lines that show each players assignment red makes it all blend together and very difficult to see the play. This hasn't been a problem in the past, but, after playing the demo, looks like it is one now.

Like I said, many of you wont have a problem but hopefully we can bring awareness to this issue and maybe have it changed via patch or at least changed for future Maddens.

PS Here's a good website that explains color blindness and has various tests to see if it affects you.

'Color vision tests' and 'reverse color test' to assess if you have normal color vision or not

We need to make sure the developers see this post. Like the poster said, maybe this affects 2% of madden gamers, but we can't alienate our color blind brethren. We need to make sure this makes first patch, because I don't think this can be resolved in a tuner set.

Heh. I thought it was just me having an issue seeing as well. I'm totally red green color blind as well.

Although, some developers are starting to recognize that. I believe they had a patch in Bioshock 2 that helped see the hacking meter better after a bunch of people commented that they couldn't tell the difference between the different color areas in the meter.

I don't think the developers can patch this, but maybe next year they can consider making their features more color-blind friendly.

No gamer should be left out.

How many games have this feature?

Now, think about EA actually doing something about it... Yeah... I don't see it coming anytime soon

Big games like Call of Duty have features that cater to their color-blind gamers, and the OP has mentioned not having this problem with past Madden games.

What about adjusting the color levels on your TV?? Would that allow you to read the plays???

I'm not sure. I could give it a shot, but then all the other colors would be wonky. I think I'd rather just live with struggling to see the plays rather than have the Cowboys run out of the tunnel with pink helmets.

It's not impossible to play since not all assignments are in red, and if I look real close I can distinguish where the red lines are going. It would be like if there was a dark green background with a slightly lighter, but still dark, green line showing you the assignment. You can make it out with some effort but it's difficult.

After playing a few more games, it's the worst on run plays. On pass plays there are different colors for the receivers and theres usually just one red one. On defense, the DL and anyone who is blitzing are given red lines. After a while it becomes obvious that if a defender doesn't have a zone bubble or line connecting them to a receivers, then they're blitzing. But, it would be much better if it was easier to see.

Thanks for posting this! I'm red-green color blind too. I'm real excited about the game but I had a lot of trouble with the playart when at the line in the demo too.
Red-green color deficiency is a pretty normal thing. Some studies say about 10% of males have some sort of red-green deficiency. Thats definitely a number that should make a difference. Hopefully EA can do something about this.

By the way, imskykid I wrote an email to EA at [email protected]. Maybe you should try that too. Anyway to get their attention.
