Maybe I'm not playing right, but it seems speed is a rating that trumps all ratings in Madden, and specially with auto-sprint feature, where as it seemed you got punished in earlier version when hitting the speed burst button in earlier versions of Madden. I have not played this series in a while, since those COD and Mass Effect games started coming out.

Depends on what position you're talking about. For WR's, yes, speed is still too big of a factor in that guys who are only speedy seem too effective. They get open on short/intermediate routes which isn't their specialty. At other positions like RB, I don't think that's the case.Comment

The perception that speed is the only thing that matters comes from the least aware players. Please don't listen to them. They will mislead you every time. SPD is merely one of 49 different ratings... SPD alone isn't enough to make any player dangerous. Not in real life. Not in Madden.

TNT.....I'm not with you on this....I'm not saying your totally wrong but here's the bottom line.....if I play with a fast HB I will gain tons of yards rushing every time. A slower back...not as good. I drafted a madden created draftee for franchise who is only a 72 rating but has 98 speed....needless to say he leads the league in rushing every year and TD's as well...mostly on 20+ yard runs...it's just too easy. He'll get stuffed 4 out of 5 plays and then hit a hole and outrun everyone. Speed may not be the only thing that matters but it probably matters the most...at least for HB's and WR's...."I'd rather lose to the cpu with realistic stats than win with ridiculous stats."

I have not noticed the speed kills scenario as we saw in past editions. I have played a few different builds and all of them seemed to have speed differential toned down which is a great thing. Only problem is we will now see speed players complaining about actually having to develop some sort of strategy lolComment

I don't have a problem with speed killing (CJ, Jamaal Charles, DeSean, Vick) as much as I do with elite speed being an absolute necessity to being elite, when plenty of greats were far from being the fastest players on the field (Larry Fitzgerald, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Cris Carter). Speed is weighted way too much in this game, even with the threshold lowered. Like someone else said, you can dominate the league with a 70 OVR RB if he has 98 SPD.Comment

Speed has always been the backbone of madden football games since as far back as I can remember1988 was even about speed but I do feel like this year it doesn't look like it will be 100% about speed....Yes the fast players will always bust a big play downfield but madden should wake up and see if speed was everything Al Davis would have won 10 rings in the last 10 years.Comment

It is still too large a factor for WR's and CB's, but it IS a desirable trait in real life at those positions.
But even in Madden 11, a 99 speed receiver with low CTH, AWR, and/or RRG, will drop an INFURIATING number of catches.Comment
