PS3 Fat Boy 60GB - anyone else have this problem?

...system will start up and will work for about 30 seconds and then slowly start to freeze and turn off. Light blinks red - Restart - Repeat.

Looks like I am close to the end, but I wonder how close - will restore work?

    Thanks

Yeah, I got this on my first 60 GB system, only mine stayed on for an hour or so. - it's very close to death.

Fortunately for me, an hour was more than enough time to salvage everything I could from the system before it shut off. If I'd have kept trying to turn it on I surely would have gotten YLOD before much longer.

Sony will fix it for you.. I wish I had one of those 60GB PS3's because those are easily the best our of all the models. The only thing you should worry about is if it's broken beyond repair, then they'll send you a refurbished Slim.. Not too bad, but I would be pissed if I couldn't get my 60GB back. Broken 60GB's go for a lot on Ebay so that's an option too..

Honestly, I would love to basically trade my 60 GB fatty for a slim straight up. I don't even use the BC or the extra ports on the system. I'm so worried my PS3 is gonna die anytime soon.

Well that goes without saying. I don't think too many 60GB systems are still under warranty..

Re: PS3 Fat Boy 60GB - anyone else have this problem?

                Thanks for the feedback.

I tried to get some saves off but no luck, system doesn't stay on long enough.

This is my 3rd 60gb and I don't use BC much anymore, I think I may go for the new one this time. I think I read somewhere the repairs are $180 now.

Is the 160gb the best bet for a new system?
Any bundles I should be aware of?

                Thanks

had this same thing happen to my 60gb about a month and a half ago. I haven't replaced it yet so my blu-ray collection collects dust now.

                      is that the latest update?
I have a 60 gb fatboy bought 5 months after the ps3 came out. Ive had no problems with it other than it getting a bit too loud from heat when I close the cabinet door on it.

I just dont want to update it and have the same thing happen.

My bros launch day 60gb died a month ago. He bought a slim but said he misses the old fatty. I have an 80gb that I got as the Motorstorm bundle. Hopefully it doesnt die....

My launch 60gb PS3 started having graphical defect problems about a year ago and had progressively got worse plus it was getting alot of freezes lately. So I went out yesterday and picked up the 320gb Infamous 2 bundle as I was waiting on the $50 price drop so it was a no brainer for me. I will still use my fat PS3 for watching movies and PS2 games as they work perfectly fine plus it will give my new slim a breather after long gaming sessions. It's so refreshing to have everything playing and looking great after playing with all the those problems for so long.

I had a freeze playing MLb 11 demo on saturday, then had a freeze playing madden 12 demo yesterday. This is my refurb 60 gb fatty.

I'm gonna trade it in and get a slim asap. I already had YLOD once and back then I didn't recognize the signs, as YLOD was seldom talked about in July 09.

Interesting tid bit...after the second freeze, i rebooted and the ps3 had a message saying that it recognized my system had shut down improperly and that it was going to send a message to Sony.
