Regardless, I do think it would be fantastic to have a diving player on your own team take your goalie out. Wasn't that type of thing shown in the hype videos?I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.Comment

I really hope that's the case as it's a bit of a downgrade in the demo.
Do we know when exactly this demo is from?Comment

Just played my first game and saw some great things. Like someone else said the skating feels better in this compared to last years. The loading times are amazing compared to last years lol. The thing that blew me away thus far was when I went for a hit and we both fell down and slid across the boards. No more superhuman checking and skating away. Also like how the audio is in the replays, but hopefully the audio in the full game is better but I don't doubt that.Comment

I agree, while I have issues enjoying NBA2k due to not being a huge basketball fan and always getting the feeling the AI cheats, the presentation is fantastic. I think NHL XX is at the point on the gameplay level where I really don't have too many complaints, the presentation level however is so far behind other sports titles it really affects the overall enjoyment for me.When a game is solid in presentation like NBA 2K11 but not great elsewhere, NHL can get with it (like a comparison between NHL and NHL 2K).
When the presentation is like NBA 2K11 in a game and the game is fun like crazy like NBA 2K11 is, then NHL can't get away with it.
Even Madden 12, in the demo, with many improvements, won't get away with it since the presentation bar was already set and that everything below that won't make it.
I know presentation and commentary isn't as important as the gameplay, and overall I know alot of you guys turn stuff like commentary off anyways. But for me its a huge immersion factor, and it seriously needs updating. It's stale at this point, we need a weekly wrapup show, or highlights from other games/ticker scores. Other games have done this for years (NFL2k5 etc) There's zero excuse that it's not in the NHL sku yet.Comment

LOL! That would be pretty funny if it was allowed actually!from the looks of it, you cant run into your own goalie and knock him down. which i guess is a good thing!!
also, on delayed penalties, the goalie cant be touched at all.. i took a slash, then just wanted to run Thomas to see a goalie reaction, it made me zip by him like he had a wall around him again. maybe they did this so he can get to the bench and the team can get the extra attacker on the ice? so people dont take advantage of that situation.. if so, good job ea!!

I definitely think they toned down stick handling for lower rated players.
I was playing HUT, and when I had my 3rd and 4th liners out (some guys rated high 60's low 70's), whenever I would try any stick handling, sometimes as simple as moving the puck out to the side and pulling it back, they would lose control and have to circle back to get it.

How do you player-lock in NHL? Do you select it before the game starts, or do you press a button during the game like in NCAA, where you press L3 to player-lock?i def like what im seeing on superstar hardcore, while position locked at RW. the CPU and my CPU teammates actually played a solid game of hockey.
more shots missing the net is great... the dump ins have been fun to watch as well!!
im having more fun being position locked, seems to play a better overall game of hockey. with slider tweaks this could be the mode i can actually get into now.Currently Playing:

I'll sound pretty selfish but since I play all sports games with commentary off, I would say this :I agree, while I have issues enjoying NBA2k due to not being a huge basketball fan and always getting the feeling the AI cheats, the presentation is fantastic. I think NHL XX is at the point on the gameplay level where I really don't have too many complaints, the presentation level however is so far behind other sports titles it really affects the overall enjoyment for me.

1- Improve the presentation style so the graphical experience for your eyes make it feel like you're there. Make sure the crowd reactions are solid, the sound of the game solid and that the presentation is like what we see on every respected sports channel. Make us fell out of our chair. Make so great that for the next 2-3 years, you'll only have to fine tune it instead of having to come out with something brand new.
2- Work on the commentary over a long period. Simply say to your customer that next year you'll get the same commentary since we are working on a large and more defined comments for the NHL game. Find a pair of guys who work together and have been for a long time, try to get most of them. Use a Doris Burke like person who will explain what's going on between the benches. Give us someone who isn't talking about the plays but explain it.
For me, #1 would be the priority since the #2 could be turn off but there's nothing you can do with a lame presentation. When #1 is up there, you follow with a strong #2. Couple that with a strong gameplay and good AI programming and you have a title that will blast everything.
That's the way I see this aspect of the game, and to me, it's been lacking for a long time in the NHL game.Last edited by FBeaule04; 08-23-2011, 01:53 PM."Ice hockey is a form of disorderly conduct in which the score is kept." - Doug LarsonComment

Definitely need to play the demo more than once to truly appreciate how good this game is. Gameplay feels smoother and more realistic. Loving the goal variety and new animations. Did anyone notice the shadowing on the nets now? nice touch
