Read Option dead?
What happened to it? I can run it all game and rush for negative yards. It was effective last year and now its no more.Xbox live: CHIEFxxROCKEMTags: None -
Re: Read Option dead?
Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. I had a lot of success with it last year, even with QBs that weren't all that mobile, just because of being able to make a good read on the defense. Now, it just seems like it's a busted play every time. Hopefully, like with the PA last year, it'll be tweaked to a useable point with the tuner set. -

Re: Read Option dead?
They should. The blocking assignments are wrong, and the WR's blocking is horrendous. Add in how fast the CPU changes direction and gets to full speed...and the option is a waste of memory on this game.Comment

Re: Read Option dead?
Im actually not having a lot of difficulty running it. Im not breaking 15-20 yard runs every time, but i usually get around 6-7 yards each time. there are times where i lose yards, but thats to be expected with any run play. you just HAVE to make sure you make the right read.Comment

Re: Read Option dead?
That's not the problem. What usually happens is after you make the read, the DL that you were reading makes the play on the RB and QB or someone on the DL does the peak-a-boo swim move and makes the tackleIm actually not having a lot of difficulty running it. Re: Read Option dead?
Yeah, it's a blocking problem which EA said will be addressed. Whether it actually works or not, we'll have to see once the patch drops.
The only time I have some success running the read is out of the pistol, but even then it's a fairly low % of success. I don't want it to be easy to run the option, it just needs to work like it should. I have no problem getting stopped for not making the right read or something like that. But this is different, the blocks just aren't right.Last edited by NoDakHusker; 08-29-2011, 09:50 PM.Huskers | Chelsea FC | Minnesota United | OmahaComment

Re: Read Option dead?
EA is addressing the speed option in the patch. I didn't read anything about read options.
I'm not having a lot of problems with the read option. I only recruit scramblers. My current QB has 87 ACC/93 AGI/87 SPD and he can run it just fine. He won't take it to the house like I could with Denard, but he usually gets positive yards unless the defense runs a blitz that I couldn't read pre-snap. The way I usually get hit for a loss is when the read guy crashes on the HB, so I keep it, and then he pivots instantly and smacks my QB in the mouth. I definitely see that happen too often.Favorite Teams:

Re: Read Option dead?
One possible fix is to adjust the speed threshold; if you set it at a higher setting, the QBs will get up to top speed faster (if they keep the ball) than if you have it at a lower number.
I do OK on read options this year. I've had a few 20-plus yard runs out of the formation.Currently Playing:

Re: Read Option dead?
Sliders are the key to read option success this year. I hate the "sliders will fix it" answer that runs wild on these boards, because sliders fail to address any number of the actual gameplay problems, but it helps a ton with read option. I am averaging over 300 yards a game rushing as Nebraska with a hybrid I/Pistol/Gun rushing attack and I'd say 5 out of every 10 runs are read option or some variation of it (motion triple, slot option, etc). If you go in without expectations of huge highlight reel runs, you're going to do fine. Last game I averaged just over 6 per carry and that was vs a user led LSU in my online dynasty. 32 rushes, 196 yards.
You have to pick your spots. If you see 7 guys in the box, do not force it and think you can outrun the D, because someone will scrape over the top and smoke you. I see very little of the DE super pivot with the Heisman sliders we are using in the OD. I actually see more unrealistic super pivot on under center option than I do in read option from the gun.
Just keep adjusting, the D does. If there are guys sitting out there waiting for the QB on the keep, call a slot option (the one in Trio HB Wk works great) or call a motion WR option out of any number of formations. A triple option threat is the counter to that. Speaking of counters, use them, often. The gun counter is great vs cpu and humans alike as a counterpart to the read option. That game vs LSU, I had a huge run on a counter that sealed the victory.
I'm about to play the CPU in another game in the OD, so I'll see if I can come up with any other tips running it as I go.
EDIT: Well, that game was a weird one, but my rushing attack was the best all season. Averaged just over 6 yards again, this time 393 yards on 64 carries (was 6 of 9 passing for 167 on top of that). The insane number of plays for a 7 minute quarter game was because the team I played, Miami, had 3 defensive/special teams TDs and I got the ball right back a ton. 19:50 time of possession in a 28 minute game.
This game was entirely shotgun, no under center at all. My three big plays were all on option keepers. A 62 yard SG Split Offset Triple Option keeper by Taylor Martinez, a 43 yard read option keeper from Normal Flex Wing by Taylor Martinez and 41 yard read option keeper out of Wing Offset that put me inside the 10. Martinez ran for 250 on 29 carries, Burkhead 133 on 24, 2 TD a piece.
I don't know what CPU Miami was doing but they had 3 down linemen almost the whole game when I was in 3 or 4 WR formations and I went HB Dive and Read Option over and over and over.
I did see the first two super pivot plays by DE's in this game though, just unreal moves by the DE that had crashed only to smash me when I turned outside with the QB. Oh well.Last edited by PowerofRed25; 08-30-2011, 02:58 AM.Comment

What are your's set at?
There should probably be a different blocking slider for Option Plays in all honesty though. Fumbles as well.Comment
