Psychic Defensive Backs?
The corner is chasing the wide receiver down field, but, somehow, as soon as I go to throw the ball the corner is automatically aware, and turns around to cover the receiver in the flat.

I guess that's difficulty but honestly it's ridiculous, disgusting and completely uncalled for!!!CFB: Ohio State, FSU
CBB: DUKIE BLUE DEVILS!!!!!!!
NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers
If you can't tell I LOVE DUKE!!!!!!!! -
Re: Psychic Defensive Backs?
Psychic abilities aside, it looks to me like he threw the pass too early...had he waited another second or two that DB would have been down field and that's a completion for a gain.Comment

Re: Psychic Defensive Backs?
If he waits, the QB will probably throw it over his head out of bounds (depending on the sliders used), or the WR will catch it but ignore trying to stay in bounds and turn up field.Comment

Re: Psychic Defensive Backs?
Don't blame it on the improved zone defense. Psychic defensive backs have ALWAYS been in the game.--

Re: Psychic Defensive Backs?
My personal favorite is on a crossing pattern, the WR is WIDE open, you throw the ball perfectly, and it either goes by him without him trying to catch it, or it bounces off his head.
Another favorite of mine is the zone read play...I ran it, and my QB got called for clipping.Comment

Re: Psychic Defensive Backs?
The problem isn't really the psychic abilities of DB and LB (the leapin' linebackers). It's that there is no physics system that requires DB's and LB's (and, well, every player for that matter) that governs the movement of those guys. The posted video wouldn't be a problem if the CB didn't stop and turn on a dime and immediately start running to the WR. If he was required, like a normal human being, to slow, stop, shift his weight, and then step towards the WR, the WR makes the catch easily.
The same is true of the superhuman LB. It's not so much that they can jump high (LB's are athletic dudes, they can jump), it's that they go from running one direction to leaping in the other direction with no delay for them to shift their weight and bend their knees to jump.
I'm no programmer, but I don't buy that the dev's can't do SOMETHING. Obviously the CPU reacts to your button presses in some capacity (like any video game). Why not add a .5 second delay in the reaction time from when you hit the "pass" button to when the CB or FS breaks off his coverage route?Comment

The problem with that solution is that it would break realistic reaction time in plays where the DB should realistically break as soon as the ball is thrown. Plays that develop in front of a defender in a zone and passes that are thrown before a DB turns to run downfield (slants, WR screens, etc.) would be EXTREMELY easy to execute against the CPU if the defender was constantly forced to wait half a second before reacting. It would be more representative of actual human reaction time, but it would still be too easy against the CPU.
The problem is, and has always been, the button press response logic. The CPU defenders are not programmed to react to what they legitimately see and read happening on the field based on their awareness, they're programmed to react to you, THE PLAYER, pressing the button that corresponds to an action executed by the guy you control. Not only is this programming garbage responsible for psychic DBs, but it's also responsible for linemen and linebackers instantly jumping as they rush as soon as you press the pass button (causing a RIDICULOUS rate of passes deflected at the line), defenders INSTANTLY breaking/shedding their block as soon as you press the sprint button, and also for the computer defenders instantly reacting to run plays or pass plays as soon as the play starts (because they pre-plan their actions on the snap based on the button press that you use to select your play).
Until EA implements an actual player vision, read and react engine based on awareness and other related stats (like they apparently have done for FIFA 12), Madden and NCAA will continue to suffer from this trash. It's beyond the scope of a tuner/patch update because it's the engine itself that is causing the problem.Comment

Re: Psychic Defensive Backs?
The only fix for this is to play on varsity. Tweak the sliders and the game play's beautifully. CPU DBs don't jump the run. Psychic DBs in coverage is greatly diminished.
I think part of the problem is guys not wanting to notch down the difficulty due to their false pride. If AA and Heisman plays like crap and if you can get the same challenge on varsity without the CPU cheating then why not do it?
What I saw in this vid NEVER happens on the varsity level.Comment

Re: Psychic Defensive Backs?
It's actually quite believable. It's an error in the game's logic and I think something like that is nearly impossible to patch. We're going to get this until EA finds a way to make defenders react to the offense instead of events triggered by a button press.Comment
