LOL. Who are we kidding DJ? I complain the most of everyone, but I know I'll be getting it.

The gameplay tweaks have me excited to play it. But I wish I had some restraint.
I fear the shallow BaGM mode will not hold my interest past November.
But I'll probably still plunk $60 down next week, LOL.
The only thing that might save me is that my wife and I are heading to Punta Cana for 7 days starting on the 17th. I probably won't buy the game on the 13th because it won't be worth it for 4 days.

Re: NHL 12 Videos - Islanders vs. Rangers (CPU vs. CPU)

Thanks for the videos ChaseB, all the info you provide is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately watching this full game has lowered my already low enthusiasm level for this year's version.

Gameplay wise I'm not really impressed watching the AI at work. Saw a couple instances of a defenseman pinning himself to the boards, goalies fumbling around trying and failing to cover a loose puck, laser-like backhanded passes, etc.

Wasn't really impressed with the first three goals either. I know DiPietro sucks but getting beat cleanly over the glove by Eminger from just inside the blueline with nobody blocking his view? Please. Hopefully that's just sliders at work.

The defensive play was horrible on both of Gaborik's goals and the backhand shot animation on his first goal was very weird.

On the plus side skating animations are improved and both players falling down on a hit can be pretty cool.

And of course talking about presentation is like beating a dead horse but I can't help myself:

-The 95% recycled commentary from 4 years ago is so far beyond stale it's not even funny. At this point it's grown mold, turned all mushy and is now starting to liquefy at the back of your fridge. Last year I only had it on during franchise games. This year it'll be off all the time.

-The audio during replays is moronic and distracting. Please patch it out. My guess is they wanted to have the live audio when showing the new "player of the game" replay mashup thing but couldn't figure out how to stop it from also being enabled during the normal replays.

-The "new" goal cut scene using the same old recycled animations is pretty bad. They actually took out the best part, which was the players huddling together and celebrating. Showing me a close up of the 6 cloned models that make up the 3D crowd instead is much worse.

-What happened to the three star presentation at the end of the game? From this video it looks to me like it was taken out. Perhaps EA wants to reintroduce it in two years as a new feature.

          Yeah, kept things relatively standard.

Its the skating that may finally do me in on this game granted its not as bad when your playing but the swivel glide no momentum change these players do off of the boards drives me nuts and then they do it from behind to in front of the net and we are supposed to be able to stay with them , its almost impossible sometimes and gets frustrating.
Defense is no fun in this game.

I dunno im torn, 60 bucks just to do a season not so sure this year.

Yeah, Money, I've always been a big fan of the gameplay, so I know I will enjoy the game and I have a lot of credit at GameStop, so I won't have to pay a dime for the game, so that's why I have yet to cancel my pre-order, even though I share the same fears as you.

The tough thing is that my gaming time is very limited right now, so I may not be able to dive into this game like I normally would, and be able to make a decision on whether the game will be a keeper or not. I could shelf my other 3 games that I normally play and just dive into NHL 12 for 2-3 weeks and see what I think of it. If I like it, I'll keep it. If it feels the same as previous years, then I'll probably trade it in when NBA 2K12 drops.

I know what ya mean, Dan.

It is getting a little hard to listen to the same commentary lines, and seeing many of the same cut scenes. But yep...I agree, the gameplay looks pretty darn good. Good enough I'm thinking, that for me...I'll most likely be able to look past the getting stale presentation for one more year.

As far as the.."Flip flopping"...that's called being human, Dan. But ya know ya just gotta get the game. You have to avenge the Avs 2010-11 campaign.
