    How to "hustle".

Can someone tell me how to use the hustle button in this game? I've played EA's NHL game since 07 and I know it was incorporated in NHL 08 (I think). If I remember correctly you've got to push down on either the R or L analog stick. I could swear that there was some kind of system where you had three different levels of hustling. The third click is max speed.

However, other people simply say to hold the stick down. I honestly don't know which one it is (the L or the R) and whether I should hold it down or click it. I cannot tell, in any way, whether my player is "hustling". I made a post about the CPU always beating me to loose pucks (on Superstar) and this is no doubt attributed to the fact that they are in full hustle mode for every puck. If there is a loose puck I can get to them every once in a while but can NEVER separate from the CPU.

There was an instance in NHL 11 where there was a loose puck that just crossed the offensive blue line. I was skating with Patrick Kane and Craig Rivet caught me from behind. (Both players had just come on the ice).

Does anyone have any success hustling and getting space on the CPU? If so, I'm all ears.

if you're pushing left stick up to skate forward, click it up to 3x to hustle.

So you just click it three times and then let off? I was under the impression it had to be held down while holding it in the direction you want to skate. I've tried both methods and notice no change in my players' speed.

What player.. your eashl player ? If you wanna hustle your player needs endurance... and lots of it (85+), especially if it's your eashl player.

Anywho why post this in sliders section ?

Not on EASHL, just in a regular game (Be A GM). And I accidentally posted this in the slider forum. I don't guess there's anyway other than an administrator to move it.

Hustling was new last year. It was 3 clicks of the left stick for the varying amounts of hustle, and I assume it's the same for this year. Also, it automatically deactivates if you make any turns whatsoever - it's just for skating in a straight line.

I find it works a LOT better this year than last. I can really tell the difference when it's activated this year as there is a very noticeable difference in player speed for a short time, and I believe the skating animation changes a little bit (player puts his head down). I've really noticed it on the dump in chase when I dump the puck in and change players.

Also, I'm finding the "push puck" works slightly better this year too with the acceleration sliders turned down. I'm still not totally happy with it, but I have been able to use it to create a little more space than I could last year.

Not to mention puck-protect being useful again. Ivan Drago loves hustling through the neutral zone to get some speed, receiving a pass just before the blueline, and lowering the shoulder to bulldoze to the net.

Too bad we keep forgetting we can save our highlights after the game with the Action Tracker.

Is the hustle only for offense or if you're chasing a loose puck down or up?

Hustle doesn't do much with the puck. It's more for dump & chase or backchecking, Matrix.

beg to differ.. my guy gets flying with the hustle on offense, pretty much like last year. i never use the L-Trigger speed burst, bc with the hustle, no need to.

It's mainly when you don't have the puck. Use LB (xbox.. no idea what button it is on PS3)) when you have the puck and you push the puck further away from allowing you to skate a bit faster. But you also leave yourself more open for AI to pokecheck or just steal the puck away from you.

But that can be used really effective if you do get a chance for a breakaway and get some more space... either giving you a chance to deke the gk or forcing Dmen to make diving pokecheck from behind with a high chance of tripping you and you get a penaltyshot.

It's actually LT (xbox) or L2 (ps3) to push the puck.

A great strategy is to push the puck and then click it three times. It helps you gain speed and the puck won't be loose as long on the push puck.

Also plenty of players I know hustle with the puck and that sometimes is the only time they use it. It's a pretty good idea if you don't need to hustle to back check and you can catch the D off guard. Granted I mostly play 6v6 in EASHL so that's where my experience comes from.

I noticed the TC said something about Kane getting caught from behind by, I forget who, but some slower D-men I'm assuming.. in NHL 11. If you were playing online versus, they tuned the game so when you had the puck.. you naturally skated slower and you were less agile. If you experienced it off-line, then it's all about tweaking your sliders (attribute effects mostly) for getting the right balance.

Although this year, online wise, seems speed/acc/agility matter just a little bit more than last year. Granted all I've played is EASHL.

Interesting. I've been using that "hustle" more than the puck release/push button since releasing the puck leads to increased likelihood of turnovers.

Gonna have to mess around further, I guess.

I'm still confused, I never really thought I ever used the hustle feature, what is it 3x in on the left stick or the LB bumper button, I never user the left pushing it in, is that what I'm suppose to do?
