We are monitoring and fixing issues in this thread.
Thanks for your patience.
The upgrade is complete, but you've probably noticed the forums are only showing posts up to about April 8. Posts made after that are still in the process of being moved over, and that should take another week or two. Feel free to start a new thread.
The site might feel a little slow while work continues. Engineers are staying on it through the night to get things moving faster again. Thanks for your patience.

I have seen one (yesterday).
The physics engine is pretty quirky though. It can look pretty good sometimes and then moments later.....just odd and ugly. Hopefully, they worked out some kinks with the retail copy.
This demo is growing on me each time I play it. I am just not that good.

Nice. I didn't know if injuries were in the demo.
The physics engine is the definition of inconsistent in the demo. When it works it looks great. Unfortunately there are a lot of over-the-top moments where you're just dumbfounded.
I love the idea of the tactical defending but I don't think they've implemented it well at all. As unrealistic as the prior FIFA's were with regards to pressure it seems as if they completely tuned it the other way. The key to playing good defense in FIFA is finding the medium of pressure/contain. In order for this happen you need your CPU teammates to help you out. Right now on the demo w/o sliders you're left to defend on an island. I love the tackle system but I need my CPU teammates to put themselves in better positions.

Right, getting absolutely no help from your teammates is frustrating. Not to mention it makes playing a counter-attacking style of football useless. It's nearly impossible to steal the ball in the middle third of the field.
Sliders might be able to fix this, but they shouldn't have to.
Re: FIFA 12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3, PC)
I made a quick comparison video here. It should illustrate what I"m talking about. notice the stop and start in the first video, and see how the defensive pressure casues this despite having a low defensive line by Brazil. It took real creativity to somewhat break them down.
Second video is FIFA, look how much space the receiver gets, still has time to dribble without going backwards. It's too easy to pass into the lanes, the defenders don't cover well enough - and this is against Man City.
Notice the speed of the matches as well, the ball is not glued to players IRL, in FIFA it's a thread from ball to man.
It's the little things that EA needs to look at, there has to be a sense of nervousness when someone a player is dribbling, because any wrong touch could mean a mishap - that's how it is for even the professionals; same goes with the passing. It needs to stop being so mindless passing - there needs to be strategy.
Why EA can't figure this out is beyond me, it took me 2 mins to find a clip that represents the game IRL, what is hard about matching it?
I love FIFA though, I always will. I think it's the right direction, I look forward to using sliders - and I hope that saves the game for me. Till then, it's just not matching the real life counterpart.

Almost forgot something... Can we please keep this to FIFA impressions, please? I know the discussion is quite civil and we appreciate that, but let's do our best to stick with the topic.
For those who want to talk PES, I know a great place to do that...
Not to derail this thread, of course, but where exactly do we do discussions of PES vs FIFA? Not the fanboys "My game is better!" but rather the civilized comparisons, such as the ones seen in this thread.
There are only subforums for each game and every time comparisons come up, we're told to take it elsewhere. Where exactly is elsewhere?
Re: FIFA 12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3, PC)
I just downloaded the demo late last night and played 3 games (been out of town this week). I guess I'm suprised at some of the nit-picking on here as I honestly found the game to be a nice improvement from 11, a pretty good representation of the sport, and a lot of fun to play.
I'm 36 and I've played soccer all my life so I'm certainly not a newb to the sport or to console gaming (been playing video games all my life too).
I'm loving the new defense. It makes you think about what you're doing instead of just jockeying and stabbing all day long. I took me until my second game to realize that I have to control my player a bit differently. In 11 if I was defending someone and I was running along with them (say down the touch line) and they stopped I would have to basically push the stick back in the opposite direction to get stopped. In this year's game I can simply let off the stick - this will take some getting used to but overal I like it.
I like how the computer AI actually passes the ball around, and more specifically how they will now pass the ball back and reset. It doesn't feel like they are just constantly pushing forward anymore.
Yes - the computer dribbling skills are maybe a touch TOO good at times but I hope sliders will help address this.
I found that higher levels of play (such as World Class) seem MUCH more difficult than in past games. Not a big deal - just need to recalibrate myself.
Commentary and crowd audio is fantastic and right on queue (especially crowd reactions).
Goal keepers seem much more realistic this year although I'm hoping to find a better balance in toning down AI striking skills (I got lit up in my first game).
Even on slow, the game feels a touch too fast. I'll try "very slow" if that option is available (haven't checked yet).
The graphics and presentation are beautiful to me. This is always a very personal thing to assess so I won't bother questioning why others compain about things that seem petty and immaterial to me - my view on these things is no more or less important than their view, it's just a matter of personal taste I suppose.
Overal - I believe that this is a continued big step in the right direction for this franchise. I'll be buying it on or near release day... very solid game in my opinion.
I sometimes think that the user community puts too high of expectations on these games for the simple fact that they have gotten so good that they are dangerously close to perfection and this makes people seek that perfection with a passion. So if i were EA I'd take the harsh criticism as a bit of a compliment (although an annoying compliment!).

They are turned on in the options, but who knows how they are tuned. At least they provided sliders for frequency and severity for offline play.

I'm assuming/guessing/hoping this is something they consciously overdid in the demo to say, "Hey look! No more crazy pressure! We did it!", and to start shifting the mindset of people from pressure to contain.
Or maybe I'm giving them entirely too much credit.

My comment you construed as "take it elsewhere" referred to the PES impressions thread since there were many posts that were much more, if not entirely, about PES rather than FIFA in here. I believe I made a similar post in the PES demo thread and if I didn't, I meant to but was distracted.
As for comparing specific aspects of the games, I understand they are inevitable and I'm not against it, provided it is used for constructive purposes. Citing a well-executed aspect of one game as a way for the other to improve the same or similar part isn't really an issue. The trouble is when it goes beyond that and devolves into rhetoric without specific purpose other than claims of supremacy.
In general, we'd like to see the impressions threads devoid of talk about other games as much as possible. The idea is people are reading/posting in these threads to gain insight about that specific game. If we're in a thread about FIFA career mode and there is civil discussion which refers to strong points of ML as a way to improve, well, there's more leeway to be had.
Capiche?

Yeah. A couple of days ago I was Arsenal and Nasri broke his ankle due from the result of a slide tackle.

After playing the game for a few days two things keep coming to mind.....
2. Sliders and CTT HAVE to be implemented properly to "fix" some of the marking issues in the game. Maybe, it's an older build and they've already been addressed, but I'm not counting on it.

1. Thank God for Season Pass.
Tell me about it, man. I can't get a good feel for the quality of the gameplay from the demo, so Season Ticket will be a great opportunity to find out what it's all about. Unlike the NHL12 early release where it was all OTP with my team, I'm going to attempt to focus on offline play and maybe a little 1v1 for the majority of the time. Hard to believe it's only a week away.
