It is true that online has not been 2K's forte, and making these teams available online may add to the problem instead of making it better.

I'm sure the 2K team had this in mind, but the technical fallibility of actually implementing it may have be the main reason of the classic teams being dropped for online.

proly cuz only three or four teams whould be almost unstopabble and whould be used ALL THE TIME 87 lakers 86 celtics 90-98 bulls and either the rockets or magic

Oh come on with all this techincal problems BS. Truth is noone knows why they didn't include them (I'm still waiting for an official confirmation by 2k).

And it's really not difficult to include more teams in the custom game team selection, one doesn't have to be a tech wiz to understand that. No need for extended testing periods.

Fifa for example expands the number of teams available each year and it has never been a problem to implement them online and we are talking about 200 teams here not 34.

Not wanting them in ranked games I completely get. Not allowing them in private matchups and in private Team-up modes I completely DON'T get.

There goes my main motivating factor for purchasing this...

No need for the sarcasm I believe. And as I said in the post you quoted noone knows why they were omitted. I still hope the news is bogus though and will continue to hope so until 2k tells us that we are indeed unable to play with the legends online.

Exactly, I would have more fun playing offline against my friends at my house with the classic teams then playing online, with possible lag, cheesing, etc.

Again, you answered the technology issue yourself. EA's Fifa servers are not the same as 2K's NBA ones.

So you think that including the legends teams would bring so many more players online that the 2k servers couldn't take it? I highly doubt that. And only adding teams to team selection doesn't strain the servers in any way. I don't know mate, it's weird.

Here is why:

If they gave us our favorite teams of all-time to play with online...what happens if in 2K13, they don't renew the licenses with the classic players? How compelled are you to buy the new game, if you couldn't play with your favorite teams? Quite a few people would pass and just stick with 2K12.

It shows a lack of commitment to the Classic teams in the long-term...and is extremely short-sighted. It reminds me of the fear that once downloadable rosters were available, people would quit buying the new year's game.

Don't be *******; give us the best game possible. Don't go short, just because you're worried you can't top it next year. I'm majorly disappointed.

Again with the sarcasm ... Some members ... But are you a game developer on 2k since you posted the reasons why the teams aren't in? It's all speculation and one is just as good as the other.

But yeh I assumed since hundreds of games around the world add new teams (maps, modes etc. etc.) or even add-ons that are made on the fly each year in their franchises that adding 34 teams to team selection really shouldn't be a problem, esecially since we are able to play the head tto head offline.

it is not just having 2 teams it is having 2 teams with different rules, presentation and commentary.

Maybe so. I wonder how that will work offline, but I imagine either the guest team adopts the home team presentation or all matches will just have the current presentation.
