Has Watching The NFL This Year Made You Give Madden 12 More Credit?

I have been watching way more NFL games this year, being in multiple fantasy football leagues and having all the games available over the internet. What I have noticed is quite a few of the things that frustrate me in Madden 12, do actually happen on Sunday and are "True" to the game. Now I am by no means claiming Madden 12 is perfect or even where I believe it should be by now but it does replicate more things correctly, than I originally noticed. For example, I saw Eagles L. McCoy, bounce a play to the outside after causing defenders to get "traffic jammed" to the inside. Whenever I see this happen in Madden 12, I get so frustrated when that happens to my defenders but Madden 12 actually replicates that pretty well.

That said, the one handed interception in Madden 12, is ridiculous because of the way the football "sticks" to the players hand, instead of being bobbled in and there has to be multiple "fight for the ball in the air", player animations added next year. In spite of things like this though, I have to commend the game for what it does get right this year.

Normally I watch the NFL and think "why can't Madden look like that" and even though there is some of that this year, there have been many moments where I realize, what I thought was Madden 12 "cheese", is NFL authentic. Of course these nuances have to be tuned better for authentic frequency but this year is better than the others, imo.

There is still plenty of room for improvement but I give the developers credit for this game seeming to finally be making a strong push to replicate NFL football.

Can't wait to see how Madden 13 and 14 shake out.

I don't know what you've been watching but watching the NFL makes me rage even more about Madden.

You trying to say there's something wrong with a defensive tackle dropping back into coverage and making an over the shoulder interception?

Some of you guys are hilarious to me when you act like if you give Madden even the slightest bit of credit, it would make you a fanboy. lol

I personally enjoyed 2k football but it doesn't have anything to do with this thread topic. It's really not that hard or unreasonable to try to have a discussion about Madden in relation to watching the NFL.

I would be the first one to defend anyone's right to express their opinion but at least express it about the topic.

It's funny because I've already lost count at how many times this season I've said to myself, "You know what that looks like? Madden." Lol

                There's nothing wrong with that.

You will have to forgive people on here they love to change the subject all the time. As for me I don't give Madden more credit, but it is the same. I never thought it was a bad game to begin with. I don't think people give it enough credit to begin with. People just want to pick it apart instead of saying what is good about the game. I enjoy the game and I am haveing a lot of fun playing it.

That's exactly what I am referring to. I don't know if it's the new camera angles or my imagination but there seems to be a difference this year. Normally I sit and wonder if the Madden devs actually even watch NFL games but this year I can tell they did.

Before, they would just have some repetitive highlight animations, like that David Tyree catch and the unstoppable stumble forward. However, the improvements made to player collision this year, seem to have created much more realistic moments.

What I am realizing is, that this game seems to be foundationally better and not just cosmetically. The more they remove the "shortcuts" of trying to just show the results of the NFL and implement more of the NFL process that leads to those results, the more realistic the game will seem.

That's what I believe games like The Show, NBA2k and NFL2k got right, the process of their respective sports, that lead to the results. I think Madden 12 is a strong indication that EA will finally be following suit and Madden 13 or 14 could potentially be what we have all been waiting for.

I am not sure what you are seeing that is making you think this.

Out of all the major sports games, Madden is still way behind.

Fifa, NHL, NBA 2K, The Show and Top Spin (Some would say Tiger Woods too) all look and feel like the games they are emulating.

Now I think football might be the hardest to emulate but Madden has fallen way behind those other games.

So many animations and interactions are strange.

I mean think about it, MLB and NBA have so many specific player animations and most of them are wonderful. Madden can't even out do the QB animations of NFL 2K (and NFL Fever, I would argue).

I think the problem lies within the Dev cycle. Every system they use is so old that probably half the time they spend is making sure it didn't break the game. That is no way to develop the game and unfortunately Madden will always be behind the rest of the sports games until the scrap all the systems they use and start anew (which may never happen).

After watching both NCAA and NFL games it made me re-think about the whole psychic DB thing...

I saw a lot of swatted balls, LB jumping in the air to swat a ball even make interceptions, WR receivers dropping open passes ; these kind of thing happens IRL.

I mean the game has to have a way to make it challenging for us otherwise, all of our QB's would have 90% completion. Having guys tipping your pass is a way of doing that.

Granted it is done in an unrealitic and frustating way ( i would much rather see my QB overthrow the pass ), it helps us get more realistic stats.

So I guess yeah, it has made me give more credit to EA.

This play would have NEVER been made in Madden. Nolan Carroll would have jumped up without looking and picked it off.
Tell your line to protect on this play. Heck, tell your line to protect on every play; not just here.

First of all Mr. OP...you stole my thunder. I was just about to post a thread called "I owe EA an apology for busted controllers"...namely that big plays happen far more often in the NFL than i thought. AFter review the stats from yesterday I saw that there is a scoring play of over 30 yards in almost every game....some games 2 or more but basically an average of about one per game. That's about what I get with Madden..maybe a bit more than that but ball park numbers.

Secondly most people (including myself at times) have skewed impressions about NFL stats. "Waaah...I have no pass rush"..well look at yesterday's box scores....some games had no sacks at all or maybe just one or two. The multi sack games are kind of rare and limited to blitzing teams for the most part. Anyway while I still have issues with certain things in the game, the overall gameplay is pretty good.
"I'd rather lose to the cpu with realistic stats than win with ridiculous stats."
