Re: NBA 2K12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I went back like 15 pages and didn't see one answer to my post.. I also noticed that several other people addressed the same question..
So I'll ask again:
So far in the post (back to the basket only) - I've only been able to execute the up and under, fadeaways, and hookshots. When I try to do the shimmys/shakes like back in 2k11, I can't pull it off, I'm doing exactly the same thing as 2k11 (as instructed for 2k12) but Dirk always goes into the up and under animation despite the fact I'm flicking both ways.
Is anyone pulling off the back to the basket moves consistently?Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
after a few more plays, gotta say, I'm falling in love with the collision detection. I love jumping up for a lay up, having someone come over, and rather than 1.) him going through me, and me finishing the lay up uncontested, or 2.) me being thrown into an animation, my guy reacts to the contact with a legitimate shot adjustment.
Also, I love it on the defensive end. most incredible example I've seen -
Miami was fast breaking, and LeBron threw a long pass down court to Wade (by the way, love the way the long, length of the court passes look now. that lob. very realistic.) I sprint down the floor with Butler to try to block it from behind, but I mistime my jump, and begin to come down before he's gone up. I landed on his back, and we both crashed to the floor, and I got called for a shooting foul. It was so realistic, as I've seen something similar to this happen several times while playing basketball.

The demo is very nice. I know a lot of people are griping about running plays and things of that nature, but the thrill and exitement of seeing what the final build will look/play like is fascinating within itself. I spoke with a guy on twitter who actually played the final build, and he stated that when he got his hands on the demo, "it was wack compared to the final build, if you think the demo is nice, then you are in for a pleasant surprise". When I heard that, I almost lost it. Oct 4 will definitely be a great day.
The thing I liked best about the game is that it plays so smooth, and the moves don't feel like they are being forced. It is so fluid. The small things make the game more realistic than last year, and 2k11 was amazing in my eyes. I really think the devs at 2K just set the bar a little bit higher for all sports competitors. Not just basketball!Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
OK
I dont want to beat this thing to death the game is good .
but ill give you an example of quickness not matching real life .
2k11 - I have melo on the wing isolated against SHAQ !!
i can dribble ,gather , crossover , do whatever fancy little trick in the book and somehow for the most part my gather takes so long that shaq stays with me .
Now is that realistic to you ? its not to me .
Im NOT saying this is a terrible game all im saying is it still needs PLENTY work !
They made it this year to that depending on your skill level your crosses are faster/ better. Playing with Crawford or Rose is much different and much more explosive than playing Kidd / Dirk / Chandler.
From what your saying though I have no idea if that is close enough for you to find the game enjoyable.
Now to your other point of real life. There are only certain times ( when the ball is in your hands) that you can change direction and speed in real basketball. When the ball has left your hands your stuck in an animation if you will.
Game companies handle this one of two ways. They cheat like elite did last year and allow you to move and change direction when you shouldn't to give you the feeling of instant control. The problem is once you cheat in on area you have to continue to cheat to keep the game balanced.
IE they had to make shot blocks where the defender doesn't bend his legs.. And on and on it goes until your no longer playing a game based on reality. BUT it sure feels great as your crossing over 7 ways to Sunday...
In real basketball that delay is not known to those who are watching the game you just see a player pull up or cross. But if you think about it you know that decision was made a second or part of a second or two before that.
2k tries to make control decision based on what would a real player be able to do. While still trying to give you as much control as possible while STILL giving you a game that looks like actual basketball movement.
Taking all of that into consideration I would rather have game based on real movement and have it look like basketball players making basketball moves.
This is why I like to compare games to other games when trying to decipher what is good or what can a company do better. Because no game will compare to the "game" we think should be made.
But when you compare the benefits and the issues with 2k to any other game available including that games limitations 2k stands alone.
People are excited I think because they understand that compared to what has been available in the past 2k12 gets you there more than any other game previously made.
If you disagree I would love to see which game you feel handles control , look and implementation based on real basketball better.Catch me on that #SimNation #SimHangOut Friday's @ 10:00 pm est https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...N7yxMiElOpMl_BComment

I am amazed at least once every time I play by the ai doing something that a computer shouldn't do like perfectly timed hesitation dribble and up and under fakes. Their doesn't seem to be a set time for the hesitation and it seems different players do it for different lengths. Dwayne Wade will freeze you two or three times a drive while LeBron tends to do it just once. While they seem to have a certain style attributed to them its hard to figure out.
And the pics being set by the cpu are brilliant and make sense this year. I don't how many times I have had to decide whether to switch or not and been taken advantage of consequently.

Yes, other than the sliding, the momentum is good. Lack of realistic momentum is what made 2k9 pretty terrible. Instantaneous response and direction change just can't be had if you want realistic basketball, and so much of the game is about using people's momentum against them-- see Jordan vs. Bryon Russel ("no push-off.").
The sliding (which I hate) is probably a concession so we would have *more* control and a movement model that's understandable to video gamers. Otherwise, you would actually have players frozen in place for a moment while making a sudden movement change because they're shifting their weight and having to plant a leg to do so. I would actually *love* to see this rather than the slidey movement model we have, and I think 2K needs to go in this direction next, but I don't think the people clamoring for instanteous response would.
That said, the Mavs aren't the fastest team in the world. I'm sure things will feel different with Monta Ellis and Derek Rose. Also, Mike Wang mentioned more explosiveness out of the sizeup/triple threat this year.Comment

I'm loving the bank shots right now. I have Dirk playing like a young Tim Duncan. I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this game when I unlock the '98 Spurs.San Antonio Spurs

Re: NBA 2K12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
Albert I understand your points on 2K11. I concur with that example 100%. The Mavs in the demo don't have anyone who is explosive off the dribble so the demo is not a great indicator of the speed differences available in the final.
They made it this year to that depending on your skill level your crosses are faster/ better. Playing with Crawford or Rose is much different and much more explosive than playing Kidd / Dirk / Chandler.

Czar, I have a question for you that you may or may not be able to answer being that you have played builds with commentary...
Do the commentators discuss the lockout? If so, from what perspective? From the perspective of *pre lockout* or *post lockout*?
ex. pre lockout: Steve Kerr "Melo wanted to get his contract deal before the looming lockout, hence why he's in New York"
post lockout: Steve Kerr "I'm happy this whole thing ended, it has been a long summer"
Any info would be appreciated.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
Game is solid gameplay wise. I am trying to get some moves down in the post and I love how they changed it up this year. I need to go back and read the post game insight to get some of these controls down. Only gripe is sometimes I will be in the post and I will try to perform a move but instead my guy will pass through the defender and lay it in the basket for an easy two points.Comment
