Well, I'm scaling the overalls so not everyone is 90+. You'll see players rated from about 70 to 99. This is an all-time roster, so players that get in pretty much warrant a 70+ rating.
I have a few resources I'm using. I focus on highlighting the strengths and weaknesses. And then I adjust the other ratings to the best of my knowledge and resources. For the most part, the scale I have been using has been great.
The 2 games I've played have played great. Niners-Cowboys. You can see the difference in the Lotts, Rices, Smiths etc. They're game changers. And then the 2nd/3rd tier players like John Taylor or Keena Turner, they make plays, but they're not dominating games the way the superstars have so far.
If you have any suggestions for rating players, I would appreciate the input.Comment

sounds good man. i am interested in putting together an all time single teams roster where i would focus on each franchise's best team they ever had. i know this has been done on other games but not on madden 12 as far as i know since its still so new. anyway i have had an idea on how to calculate a players overall rating using pro-football-reference.com, they list an apporximate value for a player in each season he has played. so i had an idea of calculating player overalls using this number but i wanted to calculate from using 3 years, which would be the year of, the year before, and the year after the year in question. the reason i do this is to normalize players overall ratings so that they wont be too high or too low but more or less around what he would normally be. for example if john elway had an off year then my formula might tell me that he is an 80 ovr for that year, but we all know that elway is way better then that so by doing a 3 year average that off year will bring him down some but hell more then likely still be a 90 ovr. so he had an off year but hes still elway. this works both ways too, if a player has a breakout season he wont be a 99 but will be rated higher then he normally is. this test the players consistency. of course if he has played less then 3 years then i have no choice but to calculate the years that i have from him. anyway sorry for the long post but this is what i have so far. but as far as individual ratings and tendencies im not real sure about.Well, I'm scaling the overalls so not everyone is 90+. Yea, I'm actually using AV as a tool to decide which players to use for teams. Let me know what you get with that formula and how it works. I'd be interested in using a method like that as well if you didn't mind. It would be interesting to see your method possibly used for an entire career.sounds good man. i am interested in putting together an all time single teams roster where i would focus on each franchise's best team they ever had. i know this has been done on other games but not on madden 12 as far as i know since its still so new. anyway i have had an idea on how to calculate a players overall rating using pro-football-reference.com, they list an apporximate value for a player in each season he has played. so i had an idea of calculating player overalls using this number but i wanted to calculate from using 3 years, which would be the year of, the year before, and the year after the year in question. the reason i do this is to normalize players overall ratings so that they wont be too high or too low but more or less around what he would normally be. for example if john elway had an off year then my formula might tell me that he is an 80 ovr for that year, but we all know that elway is way better then that so by doing a 3 year average that off year will bring him down some but hell more then likely still be a 90 ovr. so he had an off year but hes still elway. this works both ways too, if a player has a breakout season he wont be a 99 but will be rated higher then he normally is. this test the players consistency. of course if he has played less then 3 years then i have no choice but to calculate the years that i have from him. anyway sorry for the long post but this is what i have so far. but as far as individual ratings and tendencies im not real sure about.Comment

for a career overall rating, or what i call putting a player in his prime, i would use his best 3 year stretch from his entire career. this shows consistency from the player and doesnt over inflate him just because he played so many years. so it would be his best av for any 3 consecutive years. i also use av per game, so this would help with older players who didnt play as many games and therefore could not generate the raw stats that players can now in order to bring up his av score. this also helps with players that were good and were even having a good year but got injured so therefore could not play enough games to generate a very high av. here is the formulas that i have so far. i havent extensively tested these but for some random people that i selected to test they turned out pretty reasonable overalls. more testing would be done when actually making a team.Yea, I'm actually using AV as a tool to decide which players to use for teams. For example, 99=1.1 for QBs?
If 99 is the rating, what does 1.1 represent?

This is great. I'm going to pretty much use this same method. I might do some more ranges though. So the top 1% in average AV will range from 95-99 overall. The top 2% will range from 93-97, etc.for a career overall rating, or what i call putting a player in his prime, i would use his best 3 year stretch from his entire career. this shows consistency from the player and doesnt over inflate him just because he played so many years. so it would be his best av for any 3 consecutive years. i also use av per game, so this would help with older players who didnt play as many games and therefore could not generate the raw stats that players can now in order to bring up his av score. this also helps with players that were good and were even having a good year but got injured so therefore could not play enough games to generate a very high av. here is the formulas that i have so far. i havent extensively tested these but for some random people that i selected to test they turned out pretty reasonable overalls. more testing would be done when actually making a team.
For the most part though, I'm just using AV as a reference. I want the players to play like themselves, so in some instances, their overall won't correlate to their average AV. But it will always be close.Comment

Re: (PS3) M12 Attempting All-Time Team rosters...OS Community
yea thats correct, the second column would be the player's av per game. sorry i havent been on here in a few days to respond but i have decided to not figure in the players overall first as it seems to kind of make some ratings too high just in order to get his overall where it needs to be. i think the most important factor is that the player himself is accurately represented in the game by his attributes and traits. feel free to change that list up or use it however u want. its still not a bad rough draft guide to gauge how a players av would translate into a madden overall rating. keep in mind i havent tested the chart very much, so like i said change it to suite your needs. so after saying all that i have come upon a better way to make rosters i think. i will be using ratings that the espn nfl 2k5 roster making team has used for years by downloading their rosters and using a rating converson system that i have made to transfer the ratings into madden. the reason i am choosing nfl 2k5 is because i think those guys were some of the best roster makers as far as accuracy to ratings. madden 08 for pc did have some good roster makers but the majority of them dont concentrate as much on historic teams as espn does, and the footballfreaks website went down so many of those rosters i cant get anymore even though i did have them at one point in time. anyway should be interesting to see how they play out.Last edited by jHorns; 09-25-2011, 09:07 AM.Comment

capa, funny you should say that since it is mainly your classic rosters from espn 2k5 that i will be using to make my rosters. dont know how long this would take me to complete, this is the first time i will be attempting to make rosters for this game.Comment

Yea, it's tough to target an overall and make a player play as himself. But, using AV and setting a range based on AV has played out pretty well for me so far. Of the QBs and HBs that I've finished, this system has translated well for overalls and actual gameplay. I'm really liking the way it's been playing so far.yea thats correct, the second column would be the player's av per game. sorry i havent been on here in a few days to respond but i have decided to not figure in the players overall first as it seems to kind of make some ratings too high just in order to get his overall where it needs to be. i think the most important factor is that the player himself is accurately represented in the game by his attributes and traits. feel free to change that list up or use it however u want. its still not a bad rough draft guide to gauge how a players av would translate into a madden overall rating. keep in mind i havent tested the chart very much, so like i said change it to suite your needs. so after saying all that i have come upon a better way to make rosters i think. i will be using ratings that the espn nfl 2k5 roster making team has used for years by downloading their rosters and using a rating converson system that i have made to transfer the ratings into madden. the reason i am choosing nfl 2k5 is because i think those guys were some of the best roster makers as far as accuracy to ratings. madden 08 for pc did have some good roster makers but the majority of them dont concentrate as much on historic teams as espn does, and the footballfreaks website went down so many of those rosters i cant get anymore even though i did have them at one point in time. anyway should be interesting to see how they play out.Comment
