Simple answer, lock away the likes of Crosby, Ovi, Datsyuk, Thomas, etc (and even Gretzky, Yzerman, etc) that have similar unlock criteria as the boost packs.
Then allow those player to be bought from the store.
Or even use chemistry like they do in HUT. Then allow chemistry boosts to be bought, so that if you have a team mixed of players of different nationalities and teams, you can buy a chemistry boost to improve how their attributes work with each other.
Money can still be made, but EASHL needs an overhaul.

If I was working for EA, you know what I would answer to myself and to you?
"Problem with the EASHL isn't the mode, but the people playing it. We are trying to make it the more enjoyable as possible, but have no control of what our users will do with the game." In a way, they would be right.
You're right on the money point, but it would mean more work for them to overhaul the EASHL and in the end, you'll have people criticize them for what they did.
To me, still, and I'm with you on that one, EASHL need to be rework, and the first step would be to have a more equal playing field. So get rid of the boost slots, get rid of the boost pack, and give us only few standard build and we'll roll with them!
