You know that it outsold The Show overall, right? And it was just 10K behind The Show when you just considerer the 360 and PS3.
The Show
PS3=390K
2K11
360=280K
PS3=100K
It was in the ballpark. And I think it is positioned well to finally make a nice step forward next year. The presentation approaches NBA 2K levels. The gameplay was fantastic this year, and the overall buzz about the game was positive.
My real hope is that 2K sees this opportunity to really invest heavily in the game so that they are well positioned when EA joins the market they year after. I think they can get the game to NBA 2K quality with some heavy investment, which allow them to fend off EA.
On the other hand, they may just decide that baseball is not worth the effort, as the games just sell poorly. Because if 2K is losing money on baseball, so is Sony. If you add a third player in EA, I'm not sure there is a lot of profit there.Comment

The Show's sales were about half of what they have been. I bet they lost money too (though not as much, since they're first party, didn't develop for Xbox or PC, and don't have to pay for an "exclusive" license). And 2k11's sales dropped significantly (by about 40%) from 2k10's, despite 2k11 being the superior game. We were hearing that they were losing money on the license a couple years ago, when they did almost double the sales! Heck, 2k7 sold 1.33 million copies - this year's game sold 600,000.You know that it outsold The Show overall, right? And it was just 10K behind The Show when you just considerer the 360 and PS3.

For the record, I really like this game. I'm still into it (though did take a break for a bit for Madden). But the sales are not good. They are quite terrible.Comment

I think Clayton Kershaw is more deserving of that honor than Verlander. Considering what Kershaw did and for what team he played, Kershaw gets my vote for cover guy.Comment

Re: MLB 2k12.... Its coming.
The Show sold over 550k copies worldwide so far this year. You forgot PS2 and PSP. If you see that SCEA only develops The Show for 3 systems, then look at the 7 that MLB 2K does, it's a blowout. If The Show was on 360, it wouldn't even be a contest, The Show would blow them out. To compare MLB The Show 11 to MLB 2K11 is a joke.You know that it outsold The Show overall, right? And it was just 10K behind The Show when you just considerer the 360 and PS3.

Edit: I want to say also though, that I don't wish bad for 2k's video game. I hope they don't renew the license and EA gets back in, but just to see what competition can do for this video game. Hopefully it will help everyone get better.Last edited by authentic; 10-05-2011, 01:15 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 2k12.... Its coming.
Verlander has worked with the series before, and is a MUCH bigger star right now.Comment

Re: MLB 2k12.... Its coming.
Put Kershaw on the Tigers and he might very well be a bigger star than Verlander. Verlander won 24 with Tigers and Kershaw won 21 with Dodgers!
Anyway, it's not really that important who is on the cover, the inside (disc) is the most important thing.Comment
