Let's remove names for an example:
Player A has Mid Range at 78, Player B has Mid Range at 95; which one do you choose?
Now, same example, but some more stats: Player A also has Shot on the run, Shot in traffic, and Consistency at 90, while Player B has the same stats at 50; now which do you choose?

Same thing with overall ratings: people will compare players just based on those, letting their opinion skew the reality. Overall is what it says on the box, it takes everything into consideration. So the most athletic guy with the best dunking skills might be a fan favourite and a highlight waiting to happen, but if he can't shoot from range and can't defend, the guy who's average in those three categories will have a higher rating. It seems so simple to grasp that I can't understand why there is so much fuss on the stats.

The other thing to keep in mind: stats don't mean jack! If you want the game to play realistically and to be able to do that, you need to give a player lower stats than would seem normal for him, just do it. What do you prefer: to see Kobe IG play like Kobe IRL on the floor or see Kobe IG have the stats that feel right, but play completely differently than IRL? Get a grip!
Thank You!! I was just about to say this.. You said it better.

Everyone who is new this thing. Should read that post.

Not too mention you can almost guarantee the Drew Gooden's and the Matt Carroll's with 90 mid range cant shoot of the dribble, are terrible in traffic, and probably only have
      one or two hot spots.

Guys besides all the complaining going on in here. Doesn't anyone find it down right amazing the thought process that goes into the ratings. I would love to see their forumla on a chalk board in front of me right now. Like what else are base ratings? Obviously 3pt shooting would be one. Dribbling would be another one (with ball security, offball hand being supporting ratings).

Thanks guys. I'm going to sit here and try to figure out this forumla now lol.

I would love if VC did an insight on how the ratings translated into the game. To be honest I played the demo last night and they are using STATS data system.

A POLL OF NBA PLAYERS AND COACHES big dog. So they are the best at what thy do and they don't know what they are talking about? You don't think NBA players look at stats. NOBODY has any argument on what i'm saying that even his PEERS in the NBA would say he is not a poor midrange shooter flat out. Top ten midrange shooter in the league PERIOD.

Well considering the coaches are still putting Kobe on the All-Defensive first team based solely on reputation, I won't hold their opinion to the highest standard.

Lol so true. And nobody here has said Kobe is a poor mid range shooter. A 78 isn't poor. I think the mid-range rating is more about like catch and shoot kinda thing, not crossing over and pulling up for a contested shot.

I have heard it all on this website.

So NBA coaches don't know what they are talking about?
Who am I speaking to here? Phil Jackson? Stop playing 2K and watch a game. Time to live out of the videogame fantasy world.
