    Defense

I'm having a very hard time keeping up one on one they always blow past me last year you could hold LT and guess the direction they would go and cut them off with the right stick but now that only
Makes me put my hands up not sure how to keep up with them I'd appreciate some advice on what to
Press and when to press it.
    Thanks

    Re: Defense

Personally, I don't hold onto LT that much. I press it to stick with them but when they start doing moves, I back up enough so I can get in front of them if they try to blow past me.

Or, I'll back up enough so I don't get rocked but still stay close enough to contest their jumper.

These are basically principles I apply from my real life to the game.

Have you went into Training Camp and learned the technique? It actually shows you how to play defense this year.

Yea same thing I do but it seems like they just run right by me even if I'm sitting right in their path idk how to body check them if that makes sense

Yes I did training camp but it doesn't show you how to guard someone all it shows is post D, how to block, steal , and put your hands up. Nothing about how to nothing about actually guarding someone

Use LT+RT to cut off slashers much more quickly. You should only use it in bursts though, don't use it the whole time. I've stopped the CPU and users online from driving quite consistently using this.
            Lineup:
            PG) Gary Payton
            SG) '95-'96 Michael Jordan
            SF) Sapphire Scottie Pippen
            PF) '95-'96 Dennis Rodman
            C) Hakeem Olajuwon

That's funny. On-Ball Defense was lowest priority in Training Camp. It had four basic lessons that had nothing to do with keeping the man in front of you. They didn't even touch the crouch position.

Mind explaining that a little bit more. Do you press the triggers and move the left stick in front of them? And what do you mean by not using them the whole time? Sorry just frustrated and annoyed that I can't stop anyone when I was pretty good at it the last few games.

It's easier to stick with the ball handler this year for me personally, the problem though, is that the cpu doesn't collide with my defender and can just continue to run pass me even though I played great d. It feels very cheap and un fair but a patch can fix that.

So neither of you recall the point in Training Camp, within those four little lessons, where it said if you move in the direction of the ball handler you'll counter his move?

I'll see if I can pinpoint the exact lesson for you guys later once I get home from work.

Yea that was POST D not regular defense when your are trying to stay in front of the guy. Big difference.

Exactly the way I feel I can stick with him but can't body him up or "ride" him away from the basket as he tries to drive it seems everyone can drive Like Kobe by just putting their shoulder down and running right by me sorta like an outside speed rush in football.

Exactly. Even in the on ball defensive drill, it only highlights steal, hands up, block and charge. No lesson on crouching with both triggers held down.

I'm glad the NBA uses zone now because a lot of you would have been screwed when the NBA played only man.

I mentioned this earlier that you gotta find a way to mix things up on D. Switch to zone if you are getting beat off the dribble in 1 on 1 situations. I bet some of the problems that some are having is due to playing a guy who is probably a terrible shooter in real life "ala" Rondo smothering him out past the 3pt line. Sag off out on the perimeter especially if the guy is not pulling up for the jumpers or if he is a bad shooter.

These are some of the things I do to combat the cpu D. Remember players get beat off the dribble all the time IRL. Thats why the coaches devise defensive schemes/make changes/adjustments as needed.
