Online Tips to become a better player

What I want to know is why my opponents online are able to play insane pressure defense while the best I can do is jockey to try to stay in front of them.

When my opponents get the ball they seem to always have a good amount of space and can move the ball realistically, but when I get possession I am immediately swarmed.

My opponents are clearly better than I am...but the difference between how their teams play defense and how my team plays D is not just a matter of skill, rather they are playing completely different.

I feel like my ability to defend my opponent is realistic (I can't just strip them immediately, have to think about positioning, only give up 0-2 goals). But I am having trouble doing ANYTHING on offense against some of these guys because I can't hold possession for more than 5 seconds.

Is this a CTT issue? I notice that in the middle of a game you cannot adjust CTT, but can you adjust your tactics before the game? Is it possible I am just playing against players who have set up super pressure defenses?

    I would love some advice...

Heck, I have this problem against the CPU, even against vastly inferior opponents.

I have found that by upping the pressing in tactics gets my CPU players to go after the ball more on defense. I would be curious what people have to say on this subject in general.

Yea upping the Pressure in Tactics seems to work for me. Also when they send crazy pressure on you try some through passes or Crosses to change the play position. Remember if they send more pressure someone is open on the pitch... PASS

What's that? I don't play much online and when I do it's with friends so haven't encountered that.

When you press back (360) or select (PS3) you can control your GK when you don't have the ball and basically let the AI do your defending. It's like playing against the AI and just defeats the object of playing online.

For me the key to dealing with those players who pressure you constantly is to be patient and move the ball well. When they pressure you they will leave gaps and i'll constantly move the ball, often backwards and sideways and wait for the opportunity to hit my wings, from there you wait till they come with two players and ping a one-two either with the full back, centre mid or striker to get in behind them. Often you will need to lob pass the ball because of their pressure.

The best other tip I can give you is when defending keep your shape and don't chase the ball. Players will often look to one-two their way into the box, often i'll use a def mid to to sit and intercept these balls. I would say 90% of my interceptions come in my own defensive third. This is also a great way to start attacks as you can counter quickly as they will have a lot of players caught upfield.

I suck sooo horribly at this game. I was decent at World cup and won way more than I lost. I am doing ultimate team and have not won a game yet. Get destroyed by these high pressure guys every damn game.

Soooo frustrating. I am currently 0-1-14

I officially HATE the physic engine. All people do online is run into you and knock you off ball. There is zero need to use the standing tackle button. Then to make matters worse there is rarely any cards given or fouls so there is no need for these guys to change the way they play.

The game promotes high pressure defense and does not favor people who play good defensive positions.

I am going to record a entire game to show how horrible I suck at this game. Just lost another. I can't win period

Good way I'm finding to work on your defensive skills...

Set your VP up as a CB, play either Be a Pro mode or Pro Ranked matches as a CB (honestly, of all the PR matches I played, I always manage to get a CB position easy as no one ever wants to pick it). Stick to your position, and work on your defending that way. Its helped me out a ton to get defending down, to where I'm actually getting good at defending.

Although it has backfired on me at times. the best way I deal with pressure is to pass back to the defenders or goalie and keep possesion for as long as possible. Usually I notice most people will stop pressuring you on your side of the field if you can pass the ball and play "keep away" for the first few minutes of the game.

This gives you a few seconds for the game to slow down and then you instantly start a quick attack.

Alot of people only pressure you constantly to see how you react. If you beat it many will play normal. I do it all the time. Defending is pretty boring so usually you are in a hurry to get the ball. Its the same way with playing Madden or NCAA Football. People blitz you constantly until you beat it then they either adjust or get beat.

Also the skill moves are a key to beat people that pressure you. I can beat people that pressure all day. its the players that jockey, contain, double team and cover passing lanes that are hard to beat.

Also one last thing. USE YOUR MAP!!! Its hard to look at when you are attacking, but when a player pressures you or double teams or triple teams you, someone on the field is open. Learn to bounce cross it across the field (R1 and Square on PS3), and all of a sudden you have an open side of the field to play on.

I am learning this also is key. I have been blowing by high pressure guys last night with skill moves. Learning to skill when the time is right has opened up my offensive attack. Going to record one of my newer games to see if I can "show it off" some.

So my follow up question is: How do I pressure like my opponents?

I know how to hold A, I know how to call a second defender. But they seem to be playing a type of hyper pressure defense. Is it a coaching option or something?
