Wanna hear me talk about things you'll never see me write about?

Listen to the episode #18 of Game Changers Radio...

Yours truly was the featured guest last night on a star studded Madden blowout with Bobby Storm, Kobra, Shopmaster, and MadScientist.

1st up is a discussion about ratings and roster updates.
Next, Bobby Storm stops in to discuss more about the ratings and relay news.
Then, TNT713 (that's me) comes on to talk about the 'Tip of the Month Contest - Season 8" and other items...
Then Izzo talks about upgrading the Ravens D
In Kobra's Corner, he discuses beating Man Press coverage

THEN... The part you've all been wanting to read... LOL

I talk candidly with Shopmaster and MadScientist for almost an hour about the things we'd like to see changed in the game. We talk about ball trajectory, superman linebackers, user control, the passing interface, defensive assists, cheese game play, a realistic risk/reward simulation, etc...

Be advised: I'll be resuming my forum personalty immediately...

That was a good show, I always listen live when I'm able to be at my desk at work. I've been a guest a couple of times and they are good dudes on there. Always a good show to listen too.

Yeah. It was all off the cuff too... I had no idea what we would be talking about. LOL

We ended up having a really good conversation about the good/bad/ugly of Madden. But it's always a good conversation when I'm talking with Shop and Mad. Even though we disagree on some things, we share a mutual respect for our love of the game.

Derek and I went on there our first time and were hip firing LM stats and figures. Did well but that taught me to show up prepared.

I gotta give up some props to my OS friends that helped to keep me sharp... Having these debates about the nature of 'cheese' force me to think about things in a different way.

Had it not been for the guys here and other places, I might have been blathering instead of talking. Fortunately, I don't have to keep track of statistics. That would have been ultra-difficult.

I'm guessing that's why Donny Moore hasn't been on the show yet... He's gonna get specific player rating questions out the WAZOO. Can't imagine trying to hip-fire those. LOL

            Question,

I am having trouble running and passing against people who bring their safeties to the LOS and then spread there OLBs to the edge. I run up the got and try tosses and nothing, I get stopped behind the LOS from the manually controlled guy that comes thru the gap untouched.

            Any tips?

That player would p*** me off! Lol! TNT would give better advice than me but I would assume the joker is running heavy press coverage, I would motion a WR 4 or 5 yards then snap it to beat the press. You should get a clean release on any routes over the middle. Do that a few times and he will slip up.

                Smoke6,

I have the utmost respect for you... for the simple fact that we don't always agree but you care more about your performance than pride. Much KUDOS!!!!

That said ( trademark lol...), is there an advantqge in the middle? Often when players bring their players to the middle, they are daring you to take a shot.

I wanted to add something more but I'm not in a state to do so as of this moment. Gotta love Friday night!!! LOL

Ill hit you up later smoke... LOL

I would like to listen to the show but when I clicked the link, it wouldn't play.

I clicked the username:gamechangersradio and clicked the "on demand episodes - Show #18" then a new tab opened up and nothing. It won't play or anything.

I attached an image to that will help illustrate my frustration right now.

Yes he was doing exactly that, i never knew it was possible to bump the slot wr and when i threw it over the middle it got blocked by one of the amazing Dlinemen who just so happen to elevate high enough even when his arms were locked in a tussle with my Center!

These guys come with creative but 'cheap' ways of playing this game and its on its last straw with me. After i posted this I got into another game with a guy doing the same thing, and starting it off this morning with another 3 games 2 of which did this also. The good thing is I found motioning like you said to be effective but temporary, but it helped alot!

Well thanks for the kudos bro, what im getting at is that I am seeing an overwhelmingly flux of 'copy cat players a lot earlier than I have ever been seeing them online. Those post corner routes are very hard to stop and purple zone routes are not doing there job as they are still quite a bit underneath the coverage when the pass is thrown,

Another issue I am seeing aswell is the "manual comeback route" being done alot and it too is very hard to defend with nano blitzing type pressure. I have it around 30%-70% right now but its very hard to see this route coming unless you just have a spammer.

Im not too fond of the custom playbooks, but my 49ers defensive playbook is lacking any sort of normal nickel package with 4 down linemen like we have been using before Harbaugh. It like a hybrid form of it and it does nothing for me, so I am stuck in running my base defense against mostly 3-4 WR due to the over used HB DELAY people tend to audible down to alot!

With all that said, I am feeling that these sites that offer ticks and trips in the form of schemes and glitches have really made an impact moreso this year due to the fact that this game tended to be more SIM friendly than years past.

Most plays that are run online now a days do take advantage of poor AI awareness of the same play being ran until the cows come a knockin. Mostof this can be dealt with and I feel its just takes way to much time and effort into doing so down after down, after down, after down, etc!

Main reason I never play random games right there. I was hoping to see custom playbooks in online franchise since that is the mode I play 99% of the time but since they aren't in there I just use my base playbooks.

In a better position to elaborate.

When the defense brings the safeties down, work the outside. Outs, slant-outs, corner routes, etc... Anything that runs away from the safeties. It will require a little time to perfect the throw though. Practice getting some air under the ball by tapping the ball a little softer than you typically would. It will certainly help with the number of balls you see batted down.

I used to get more throws batted down at the line until I became conscious of why I was throwing passes so low. I was getting too excited. Now I hold my breath to force myself to concentrate on the throw. Might work for you too.

Smoke, I wouldn't think of motion as a temporary tactic. In fact, I'd advise a thorough exploration of the concept and how you can apply within your own brand of football.

As far as the recent games you've played against a particularly frustrating tactic - turn that frustration into a positive experience. At some point each of use runs up against something we view unfavorably at first, then tend to respect a little more as we build our adjustments. Even if we don't find the tactic to be tasteful, developing a football counter engages it as a strategy first - tasteful second.

I'm not sure exactly what your opponent was doing, but if you want to enjoy further games you'll need something for it. You strike me as the type of player that wouldn't want to be stuck calling the same play to counter your opponent the entire game. When you find something that works, break down WHY it works, and you'll have a basis for finding other plays that work off a similar concept.

Madden online is much like the real NFL... Copycats. When someone sees something that works, they use it. The good, the bad, and the ugly (queue music).

Corner routes are very tough to defend. If the QB drops it in just right, there's not much a defense can do. But there are elements of plays that use the corner routes that you can attack. They take time. A good rush usually forces the pass to come out earlier. Try blitzing when you use purple zones to force a quick throw while your defender is still in position to make a play on it.

A technique I employ uses two defenders for the corner route using a blend of man/zone. If I play over the top with a safety in a zone, I'll press the receiver with a defender in man. The man defender underneath forces the ball to go over him, while the deeper safety can make a play.

Another technique uses a man defender over the top, with a zone defender underneath. Back off the man coverage, then have a safety slip into a purple zone. In each case, the zone defender is most likely to play the ball. Use the man guy to clean up and make the tackle if the catch is made.

I don't think I've run into this yet... If I did, they weren't very good at it. LOL. In any case, I'm leaning on you for a good description. I'd like to have at least a basic plan before I see this on the field.

                            I LOVE CUSTOM PLAYBOOKS!

I've been using the 4-3 defensive playbook for years, but it kept losing plays I use. This year, I packed my playbook with everything I need. It's so much easier to adjust a play when the play in the play call screen is already similar to what I want to do on the field.

It has certainly been a big help - EXCEPT - in an audible battle. PR Left doesn't make for a good defense.

Mostof this can be dealt with and I feel its just takes way to much time and effort into doing so down after down, after down, after down, etc!
Be careful not to confuse a schemes with glitches. There are several sites that offer strategies that may seem gimmicky at first - but they aren't gimmicks anymore after a week or two. We see them, break them down, adjust, and those strategies become useless.

Repetition is the hallmark of football. All the greatest coaches had something they ran religiously. Facing them, meant stopping their signature play over and over during the course of a game. Packer Sweep, 49ers Slants, Redskins Counter Tre... You knew it was coming, but what were you going to do about it.

Madden is similar. If a player thinks he has a money play, he's going to run it over and over. Sometimes even after you stop him several times in a row, they run the same play. But that repetition is as much at the heart of football as anything else. It requires a special dedication to keep running something until you stop it. It take another type to run it until it works.

Regarding the AI not adapting to the same play being called over and over... I'm glad it doesn't. I prefer to put the onus on the player. He has the ability and responsibility to give his electronic players instructions. I've often met players that call the same plays every down, but execute them a little differently and these small deviations in execution are what make pinpointing the proper overall adjustments difficult, but no less necessary.

There are so many possible adjustments to make, many players may not know half of them or why they are important. The more we know about each individual assignment and how it can be adjusted the less apt we are to rely on the AI making the adjustment we don't make to repetitive plays...

Just part of the game, I'm afraid. Beware assuming a play is a glitch. Some of the football that drives gimmick football relies on your belief that it's unstoppable without needing to overcompensate.
