FC Internazionale Milano has named Luciano Spalletti as the next man to guide the world football power. The 52-year-old Italian has most recently been the manager of Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg where he had been since 2009.

Spalletti last managed in the Serie A with AS Roma from 2005-2009. During this tenure Spalletti led the Roman side to two Coppa Italia titles (2007,2008) and one Supercoppa Italiana title (2007), two UEFA Champions League quarterfinals appearances (2006-2007, 2007-2008), as well as another Champions League appearance in 2008-2009, and was named Serie A Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Spalletti did not however capture a Scudetto with Roma.

With Zenit St. Petersburg, Spalletti has guided the club to a Russian Premier League title and Russian Cup in 2010 and a Russian Super Cup in 2011. Zenit has also participated in the UEFA Champions League.

Spalletti takes over for Brazilian manager Leonardo whose Inter team finished the 2010-2011 Serie A season in second place after he took over in late 2010 from Spanish manager Rafael Benitez. Inter's second place finish was the first time the club had not won the Serie A title since 2004-2005.

BALZARETTI MOVES TO INTER

Internazionale announced today that the club has secured left back Federico Balzaretti on a €7,500,00 transfer fee from fellow Serie A club Palermo. The 29-year-old Italian has signed a 3 year deal with Inter.

Balzaretti joins Inter after spending the past three and a half seasons with the Sicilian side Palermo. In the Serie A, Balzaretti has also played for Torino, Juventus, and Fiorentina. In 155 Serie A games, the highly praised defender has 3 goals.

Balzaretti was also called up to the Italian national team in November 2010 and has 5 caps for his country.

Walter Samuel's preseason injury is a tough one for Inter.

It was announced today that Inter Milan centre back Walter Samuel suffered a lateral collateral ligament injury in Inter's 3-3 draw with Olympique Lyonnais at the San Siro yesterday and will be sidelined for four months.

The 33-year-old Argentine defender was injured on a challenge by Lyon's Bafetimbi Gomis which resulted in Samuel being substituted immediately.

Samuel shared the title of Serie A Defender of the Year with Juventus' Giorgio Chiellini in 2010. He has been with Inter since the 2005-2006 season and has 9 goals in 112 appearances with the club.

MUNTARI SOLD TO BAYERN


Sulley Muntari is off to play for another European power.

Inter Milan have agreed on a deal to send Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari to German football giants Bayern München for a transfer fee of €8,000,000.

Muntari had been with Inter since a 2008 transfer from English side Portsmouth, although last season he again played in England on loan to Sunderland. The 27-year-old had scored recently in a friendly against another Bundesliga side, FC Nürnberg, but did not feature prominently in Inter's plans this season.

Muntari's move has Inter slighlty above breaking even so far this transfer window after the Milan based club purchased defender Federico Balzaretti from Palermo for €7,500,000. However, more moves are likely to be made.

FC Internazionale Milano have sold defender Cristian Chivu to Serie A opponent Lazio for a transfer fee of €5,500,000 the club announced.

The 30-year-old Romanian becomes the second player moved out from the San Siro by new manager Luciano Spalletti. Chivu had been at Inter since 2007 and appeared in 132 matches in all competitions for the club, scoring 2 goals. Chivu played in yesterday's Supercoppa match against Milan, the only time he suited up for Spalletti.

The move to Roman side Lazio will be Chivu's second time in the eternal city as he played for AS Roma from 2003-2007 before coming to Inter.

MUNIAIN LANDS WITH INTER


Iker Muniain may be an upcoming star for Inter.

Inter's newest transfer acquisition is winger/forward Iker Muniain who moves to the Milan based club from La Liga side Athletic Bilbao for €14,000,000. Muniain has signed a 4 year contract with Inter after the transfer was completed.

The 18-year-old Spaniard has been playing in Spain's top division for Athletic Bilbao for the past two seasons, setting club records for youngest player to dress for the team in any match, a La Liga match, and to score a goal. All of these were accomplished by Muniain when he was 16.

There are still three more days left in the transfer window, but Inter is likely through making moves until January. However, Inter has over €40 million left in their transfer budget if they change their mind.

I'm going to play him primarily at centre forward in a reserve role for now.
