The Great Undertaking (A True Bypass of NHL 12's Sim Engine)

    Sup, everyone.

Just thought I'd drop by and let you guys know how crazy I am.

Recently, I've started a season mode, with the full intentions of playing as every team, every game.

Essentially, the way this will be done will be as follows...

I will play as the home team for every game throughout the regular season, all 1200+ games.

    What does this accomplish?

    a. Stats that are true and not based on any simulation whatsoever. All the team stats (PP %, PK %, etc) and player stats will be based on the same opportunity as each and every game will be actually played.

    b. I get the opportunity to be every player and team in the league. So often, as I've been playing through a Be-A-GM, I've become somewhat bored and wanted to play as Ovie, Crosby, or Stamkos...now, I can be all of them.

    c. Longevity of playing. I started last night with this endeavor and had three completely different games. I won 3-2 in a shootout as teh Bruins over the Flyers, tying the game with 1.9 seconds remaining to send the game to OT. I lost 4-1 with the leafs against the Canadiens and followed with a 5-1 as Vancouver over Pittsburgh.

I could have played all night till 4:00 said it was time to get some sleep.

Anyways, just thought I'd drop by and tell of my pursuit.

              It's been really fun...

It'll probably take a couple of years or so...but thats okay as I see no real reason to get NHL 13, unless major presentation improvements are made.

With the presentation improvements already in NHL 12 and the gameplay being about as good as we'll see on this generation of consoles, I see NHL 12 lasting me a long time. Long enough to accomplish this task.

i honestly thought about doing this the last year or so, but didnt because i hadnt seen a version of the game that was deep and simulation enough to last the whole time.

i thought about maybe getting the girlfriend pregnant just so i could stay at home and take care of the baby, and play the game the whole time. upon further reflection, that wasnt such a good idea.

instead, i just ran a season with a few of my favorite teams, and try to play the games on the actual dates they are in real life.

Please, keep us updated, but wait til the jets jerseys are released!

I was thinking of doing something similar while testing my sliders in season mode.
I would play every Ranger game (home and away) and then play as one team in each game that was played on that same day of the schedule as the Ranger game. This way I would be able to play as more teams and not have to try and make it through every game on every day.
I'd probably be playing way less than half of the entire schedule yet still be able to play as other teams and players.

Re: The Great Undertaking (A True Bypass of NHL 12's Sim Engine)

Okay, I'm like 1% of the way in 3 days...

I work 2-10 and play the game when the kids and wife go to sleep except for Saturday nights, which is family night.

So in about a year, maybe even 10 months, I can pull this off. I don't care if this takes longer as it's been so much fun and satisfying when looking at the league stats knowing all the stats are true.

Every single stat in the league is based on gameplay 100 percent.

Lovin' it. Also...I'm gonna post a link where I am doing game-by-game recaps in the dynasty section.

That takes time and I barely have any at the moment. Got a lot of updates to post.
