Re: OS Roundtable: Are 2K12's Online Gaffes a Major Concern?

What is upsetting is the unfulfilled promises.

    From the Online Association Insight:

Private Associations allow for a greater sense of league customization and, essentially, allow the commissioner to control just about anything that happens within the league.
Yet there is almost no control whatsoever. There was infinitely more control and customization in the old online leagues.

Great article! I completely agree that 2K's inability to maintain a solid online game is causing them to lose a lot of respect with the online sports gamers.

Online is a major miss for 2K. They really need to address this longterm if they are ever to truly dominate the genre once EA gets back in the fight.

I'm no dev JCEVO so I'll take your word for it but that is no excuse for 2k's servers to be as bad as they are....
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

I dont play sports games on line, but I would have to say its a major concern.
Maybe 2k should consider outsourcing their online services to a more experienced company., and if they already do this, maybe they should find a new provider.
Cost , is what is most likely holding 2k back from providing a stable onlineenvironment.
IMO, I dont think they have their business model for sports online gaming hashed out yet. I dont think they even sat down and thought out plans that included scalablity issues, etc.

I would hate for 2k to lose business becuase of this.

Re: OS Roundtable: Are 2K12's Online Gaffes a Major Concern?

Again, props to OS for shining a light on 2K's online issues. For a site that traditionally caters to offline gamers, I have now seen two major articles in as many weeks on this subject. Since this site is frequented by the devs, I can only hope that the trend continues and that this site hold 2K accountable for unfulfilled promises that can be characterized as borderline deceitful and misleading advertising about the online portion of the game.

Having said that, I am not so naive as to think that these online issues will engender a significant backlash from their customers because the game play and sheer amount of modes is simply peerless, especially when you consider the competition or better yet the lack of competition. Hence, like a junkie who constantly yearns for the euphoric high, and as a result cannot put down the pipe, or the battered wife that cannot leave the abusive husband, us online gamers will continue to be drugged and battered so long as the core of the game and the non online portions continue to be 2Ks priority.

That sentiment is so demoralizing for an individual such as myself who is not even a gamer, in terms of one who enjoys different types of games, just a "2K ONLINE GAMER." I have no need to remove this game from the xbox year round when online leagues and now online associations are functioning properly, so hopefully this upcoming patch resolves the plethora of issues plaguing this beautiful game. After all, who would I be kidding to sit here and pontificate about switching to EA when Elite makes its return or potentially not buying future iterations of 2K. I and 2K know that aint happening. Oh the love/hate relationship.

u already know the answer is yes. gameplay is off the charts but the online connectivity is flatlined and nonfunctional at times. i know who mike wang and rob jones and eric and those guys they keep showing are but who is the dev managing the online coding. i dont remember seeing him anywhere. the guy in charge of online and the nba insider who controls the player ranks. show your faces so we know who to cry to. lol. dont be scared.

I find it funny that MLB the show is treated around here as the holy grail of life (Don't know why) and their online service sucks arseee big time. Horrible lag in pitching and it is just plain bad to play online with that game. But you do not hear an up roar about it like it is made on 2K

As long as NBA 2K continues to pour great gameplay then online is not going to kill its sales a whole lot.

It sold a lot last year like 5 million and it had issues online just like it has always had but it still sells because it is a fantastic game.

I laugh when people say then charge half price. LOL. comical

Companies like EA have stated that their data suggest that online gaming in their game is nowhere are important as off line.

To me online shooters are important and the biggest pie in a release

For sports with the ability to have a ton of cheaters and cheesers in every major sport it turns off many more fans from playing online then those that only play online

Look at the poll here on OS asking what type of gamer are you. It is a landslide in favor of off line gaming.

Steven Bartlett "If we are talking a major concern in alienating fans, then I don't think I can categorize 2K's lack of high performance servers as a big issue".

This is what I was trying to get across on MMChris's Blog... It's still an issue though.
...we held several meetings to discuss the future of the franchise. After going through those meetings, it became very clear that the vision I had for the game was different from where the leadership wanted to take it. I parted ways with EA shortly after...

Why settle for half of a game sold at full price..
We all do it for Madden on a yearly basis...

Point being, whats a BETTER GAME? 2k12 or Madden 12?

If you were going to give a slight pass on some issues, who would you give it to? The people that boldface lie to you yearly? or, the people that make damn near the best sports game on a year in and year out basis?

So, online is funky right now... No big deal to me and about 10,000,000 other people... If you don't play this game simply because you can't deal with the online issues its having right now, then you my friend are missing one of the best games of this generation...

Online isn't a big deal for me as I'm an offline gamer but I can see why online gamers are so upset. At least they are trying to fix it though

Trying to fix what?? They been TRYING to fix the server's since 2k9. One year people can live with it but 3 freaking year's is unacceptable.
