NBA 2K12: End the Debate - Which team is the best team of all time?

Has to be Retro C's. Bird, Ainge, McHale, Parish? Sounds like a dream team to me. All the pieces fit together really well.

In a watered down league.

Put that same "team" in the mid 80s and they'll be lucky to crack 60 wins!

Anyhow IMO it's between either the '86 Celtics, '87 Lakers or the '83 Sixers.

No other team(s) is even in the discussion.

Please. My local high school team could give those 60s Celtics teams a run for their money. Bill Russell is a glorified "Ben Wallace" and Bob Cousy is a poor-man's "Steve Blake."

No team (and player for that matter) from the 60s or prior eras should ever in the discussion for "greatest" anything. Team sports were somewhat of a joke back then. Just look at the highlights.

The 86 Celtics weren't as great as the 84, 65, or 66 teams. Why? 86 had a limited bench (besides Walton) and Parish was on the decline. In addition, they had inferior team speed and their only power player was McHale.

The 87 Lakers are number 10 on my list. Why? Poor defense throughout the starting lineup. Magic, Scott, Worthy, and Jabbar were the main culprits here. Also, Worthy and Scott were much less effective in a slowed down game. Finally, their only power player was Magic, which means they would be pushed around by the most elite squads.

The 83 Sixers? Please. Mediocre team defense, poor bench, and poor outside shooting.

Head and shoulders, the two greatest teams of all time were the 96 Bulls and the 67 Sixers.

Your local high school teams would be demolished. Ben Wallace was about 6'7. Russell was 6'10, strong, and ran like a greyhound. He had the foot speed to dominate in today's game.

Now Cousy, I agree with you. He was slow, defenseless, and couldn't shoot. He couldn't make a team today.

The highlights don't come close to telling the story. You had to watch the daily broadcasts and see the games in person. Its funny, modern fans believe that today's players/teams are sacrosanct. Clearly, their own egos are at stake.

What y'all don't get is those past teams laid the foundation...to say Bill Russell is equivalent to Ben Wallace is hilarious cause Ben Wallace wouldn't understand how to play his position at the level he does without guys like Bill. Put y'all High School Teams in that time without having the knowledge of the game you all benefit from having those older teams do it first and see how well you really play the game.

Whats next? Stephen Hawking is gonna say he's better then Albert Einstein?

So many great teams to choose from. But if I had to put money on it, I'd go with the 96 bulls. Weak era? Maybe, but you can only play and dominate who is put in front of you. And they did to a very high degree, plus they had a newly motivated MJ back in the fold. Their defense was suffocating when necessary, best perimeter defensive duo ever. Their offense consisted of a collection of veterans, all whom knew their roles and played their parts. Only a few teams ever could match up with, let alone beat this team in a seven game series. Oh yeah, and never bet against the GOAT, surefire way to lose money.

You'll never know. But i would go with a squad that played more team ball and had many options that would step up and beat you, rather than a team like the above poster mentioned.

My pick would be the team that won the most in the regular season and won the championship---the Bulls team that went 72-10.

This would be a question for someone that was actually around to see Russell's Celtics and the older great teams play. Unfortunately, i doubt there's too many of those ppl going through these forums.

Obviously most the younger folks are gonna favor the more current teams.
