Incoming HB recruit 5'9 196lbs power back
In my dynasty I have the number one HB pretty much wrapped up. As it says he is a 5'9 196 pound power back. Yeah that just doesn't make sense. So I'm wondering what would be the least cheese thing to do: bulk him up to bout 215 when he gets on campus or turn him into a similarly ranked speed back. Thought?Don't wake for the end of the world unless it has very good special effectsTags: None -

Leave him as is. Oklahoma played a 166 lb HB last night vs Kansas. He was running over everybody. -
That's much better than the 6'5 225 lb speed back I'm currently recruiting haha

This
If you don't intend to leave him as is; changing his weight would have a lot less of an impact than changing his ratings.
Just tell yourself his weight was incorrectly listed during recruiting and he was always 215.Comment

If you are role playing it, just change his weight and then redshirt him so he can earn the Freshman 15.Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.Comment

Re: Incoming HB recruit 5'9 196lbs power back
Thing is, if you look at high school kids and what they are listed at on Rivals or Scout during their senior year, they almost ALWAYS gain anywhere from 8-15 pounds once fall camp breaks.
If it were me, I'd leave his ratings alone and tell yourself that when you were recruiting him, he was 196 pounds but from the time he graduated HS to the start of his college career, he gained 15 pounds or so.
Perfectly feasible.
Chris Polk was 5'11" 190 (speed back) when he signed with Washington. As a Junior, he is now 5'11" 222 and is a definite power back. I think after his redshirt freshman season, he was listed at 214 pounds. He gained 24 pounds.
You can work with it from that angle and it'll make you feel better about it.
Biggest thing to remember - recruits grow a lot (weight wise) from the end of their senior year of HS to the beginning of their freshman seasons.Comment

Re: Incoming HB recruit 5'9 196lbs power back
5'9 196 isn't unrealistic at all for a power runningback. That's a pretty heavy high schooler for such a short height.
FWIW, that's Mark Ingram's height/weight coming out of high school:

Like others have said, just have him slowly get up to around 215.Comment

Re: Incoming HB recruit 5'9 196lbs power back
Exactly what I was thinking. 196 pounds on a 5'9" frame would look a lot more like a "power" back than a "speed" back. Same goes for the post about the 6'5" 225 lbs. speed guy. Spread out 225 lbs. on that frame, and he'll look more like a receiver than a running back.5'9 196 isn't unrealistic at all for a power runningback. Re: Incoming HB recruit 5'9 196lbs power back
Most recruits weights are about where they should be. 5'9" 196 is pretty big for a high schooler (as has been mentioned guys like Ingram and MJD were around that size as prospects). Problem is players don't gain weight as they should (Ingram was 200+ by the time his freshman season started, and was visibly bigger his sophomore year). I end up editing just about all of my players' weights.Comment

Re: Incoming HB recruit 5'9 196lbs power back
As mentioned, Roy Finch of OU is 5'7" 166 lbs. and runs over linebackers quite often. Also Dom Whaley at 5'10" 197 lbs. runs over defenders, always falls forward, and is considered a power back. Some guys are power backs because of strength, explosiveness and hit power, not always just being a big guy. As for 6'5" 225 speed, sounds to me like a tall skinny guy with long legs for blazing speed, not unrealistic imo. Usain Bolt is 6'4" 198 lbs. Imagine if he bulked up 25+ lbs. for football, I'm pretty sure he'd still be faster than most.Last edited by Cynick; 10-17-2011, 09:33 PM.NCAA: Oklahoma Sooners
